Alright, they’re ready now, this is the first of the two I have ATM, the profiles for both are really long because I plan to make a fan-comic with them as the main characters sometime in the future, so they're more than just characters I roleplay with, just to warn whoever reads this. XD

Name: Velia

Gender: Female

Age: 23

Species: Dryphon (Dragon-Gryphon hybrid, her kind notably takes more after the former in appearance and abilities, but mannerisms, instincts and behaviors often take more after my interpretation of Gryphons in the Spyro universe. As a side note though I honestly prefer to spell it like “Griffon” Dryphon just looks so much better than Driffon to me XD)

Elements: Fire, Lightning, and Shadow. (reason she has more than one is kinda a cop-out I know, basically because she is descended from royalty, the third, however, is plot based and isn't truly revealed until much later in her official story.)

The color of her fire doesn't mean anything btw, I just like the thought of there being different colors of fire for dragons with skill not really factoring into it, so blue fire for instance wouldn't require a master fire dragon to make itself known.

Personality

Velia is highly reserved and distrusting by nature, like the shadows she manipulates she instinctively prefers to be hidden and out of the way of others rather than the center of attention, because of this she greatly dislikes and even slightly fears most social interaction, but will, however, display an air of curt politeness befitting of a Royal to new faces unless personally provoked, her ability of reading others to the point where she has a good sense of telling them what they'd wanna hear is her one saving grace when put into an undesired social situation.

Her greatest fear is her own weakness, which manifests in a plethora of ways that often involves her hiding her feelings from others, aswell as giving her a need to be in some form of control of the situations she’s in, and because of this she comes off as much more harsh and dismissive then she actually is, though it doesn't help that she also has a vengeful streak, and has no qualms with being straight-up ruthless to her enemies, this here is where her seemingly-fierce disposition legitimately shows itself, and she seems to get enjoyment of making her adversaries suffer.

She is not all negative qualities, however. And while she likely wouldn't outright admit it to those that aren't extremely close to her, for all of her quirks that can give off a very self-confident and even pompous vibe to those that know little about her, she actually has a very low self-esteem, and her cold front is commonly up with those she isn’t attached to so they can’t exploit her vulnerabilities, particularly her emotional ones which are usually her biggest problem. When in a docile mood Velia is very protective, nurturing, and considerate, always willing to put the wants and needs of her loved ones before her own, and while her sense of humor is often at the expense of another in the form of a jibe, it’s very clear when she says it out of genuine disdain, and when she is merely being playful, and she is also unquestionably loyal.

Those that Velia intentionally reveals her hidden vulnerability to are undoubtedly someone she deeply respects and considers a good companion. One such creature whom is notable for consistently bringing out Velias good side with her presence alone at times is her younger sister, Avia, whom she cares for and is more at ease around than anyone, the two are so close, infact, that it’s uncommon to see one sister without the other close by.

Like many big siblings, Velia is very protective of Avia, and often won't let anyone who seems suspicious associate with her, to the point of directly antagonizing them if they don’t take her hints soon enough, and if she has no control over this, you can be certain she'll be watching them like a hawk until they leave or if she is proven wrong and they turn out to be atleast tolerable to her.

Strengths:

Velia is considerably lethal in a fight, using her speed, agility, and stealth to her advantage, she can deal out harsh blows to her opponent whilst still being able to avoid getting hit herself even at close range, she also will abuse the fact that all of her elements can potentially hinder vision, so if worst comes to worst she’ll use one of them to temporarily blind her foe before darting out of range.

She is also quite intelligent, and very resourceful, she often has this aura when confronting another creature as if she’s one step ahead of them, and she often is. Considering her tendency to attack at the least expected moment, she’ll take the time to study her opponents for any outward weaknesses they may possess, this is something that eventually extended into her social interaction aswell, giving Velia her previously stated skill of reading others through even the most subtle of reactions to find their hidden soft spots in case she would ever need to take advantage of them in the future, so she can be manipulative under certain measures, making an art of it with her silky, mature voice, and smooth eloquence when speaking, and she is also not above blackmailing if she feels she absolutely has to.

Due to her species, Velia is a very skilled flier by nature, and can often outspeed and fly longer than all but Wind-wielding creatures.

While self-taught, Velia is still considerably skilled with her elements, especially Shadow, which she most commonly utilizes to disappear into the surrounding shadows, which is great for both ambushing enemies aswell as getting out of a tough situation without a chance of being followed. She can also shoot a smoke-like stream of dark energy from her mouth that not only physically harms them but also fills their mind with tormenting thoughts, and last but not least a Shadow-charged swipe of her claws or deep glare can allow her to render her victims’ mind blank so that she can temporarily control their actions. (It is worth noting, however, that she rarely uses this power for moral based reasons, however like her tendency to prolong pain for those she considers a real threat she won’t care in that kind of case.)

Due to harboring a “Dark Element” in Shadow, she has exceptional resistance to magic and elemental-based attacks.

One of her strongest elemental attacks is the ability for her to shoot balls of plasma, which works by her using Fire and Lightning at once and releasing in a beam of destructive energy, which is both paralyzing and searing at once to those struck by it. It is also vicious enough to go through solid steel.

Weaknesses:

While she is certainly not a glass cannon (as in someone who can’t physically take even half of what they can dish out) she does have more difficulty taking physical hits than elemental ones, and while she’s suffered harsh damage before she doesn't have much of a read on her limits, so she makes sure her movement is at its best so she doesn't have to find out the hard way.

Her plasma balls are one of her more energy consuming abilities as she uses more than one element to create them, so she can’t do a vast amount of them at once.

Foes that surpass her speed and maneuverability are a considerable problem for her, and if they’re both quicker than her AND much stronger still they can be an almost total check to everything she’s capable of except her magical abilities, and depending on her opponent in question her tactical skills.

Her corruption abilities can be resisted and outright broken by an individual with a strong enough will, or because of the fact she needs to focus on her victim to keep her mental hold, it can also be broken by her merely being disoriented.

Speaking of her Shadow magic, there is a slight delay between her still being solid and becoming one with the darkness in her vicinity, so she could very well be struck just before she disappears if the blow is timed just right, it’s worth noting that magic/elements have better success doing this despite her resistance to them.

Basically anything that reminds her too deeply of her past will deeply depress her on the best of days, and will trigger her PTSD on the worst of days, whether it be that she had a father who never truly loved her, the fact that until she proved herself as a leader years forward, Dryphons all over had been wary of her abnormal abilities, or just straight up reminding her of that night she was driven from her home and lost her family. Being called a freak or variation of it is also a sore spot for her, though that insult alone will more likely instill anger than sadness, though both are possible depending on who says it and how they say it.

Background:

Velia was born in a Kingdom called Ariva, a small but fare land housed primarily by Dragons, Gryphons, and, of course, Dryphons, a crossbreed of the two, while it is entirely possible that there are Dryphons in other locations, this is where they are the easiest to find, with the Royals themselves being this very species.
Velia was such a royal, born alongside two other hatchling her black fur was a shocking phenomenon for the King and Queen, for it had been known as long as any can remember that dragonbloods of such a color almost indefinitely brought chaos and misfortune.

King Alavar, upon learning this, had great misgivings about the child, but Queen Serena refused to believe any of her children were capable of causing harm to anyone, and vowed to raise her as if she were completely normal. It became apparent that Velia was easily the smallest and weakest of the clutch, to the point where it was thought she wouldn’t survive her first week, her other siblings also seemed sickly, though not quite to as severe a degree. Eventually the sickness proved too much for two of the hatchlings even with treatment, whereas Velia made a miraculous recovery, growing as if she had never been the weakest to begin with.
Many among the castle took this as a bad omen, presuming that the hatchlings unnatural color wasn’t the only sinister thing about her, and they were partly proven right when it was eventually discovered she had the Shadow element, an extremely rare and unknown ability that was said only to appear on a dragonblood with a relative with the same abilities, however, the royal records had no such Dryphon OR Dragon, making this sudden discovery all the more worrisome for all aside from Serena, whom had become particularly protective of Velia after the death of her other children.

Alavar In particular had slowly taken to avoiding the little Dryphon whenever he could, which did not go unnoticed by her once she became old enough to be moderately self-aware, she tried to make herself believe it was because he was a King and therefore was just too busy to interact with her, but young as she was at the time, she knew the truth, or atleast, she understood as much of it as a young Dryphon could, he was displeased with her existence, displeased with the fact that out of three hatchlings, the smallest, weakest, and glaringly abnormal one had been the one to survive, he had probably wished in the darkest part of his mind that she had perished instead of her siblings.

Abit later Serena laid yet another egg, and while Velia felt no animosity towards the egg itself, infact she even eagerly anticipated the arrival of her new sibling, she did regard with a rare moment of bitterness that her father would probably like them far more than her.
Between this and the notable wariness everyone except her mother exhibited towards her, Velia’s personal image suffered greatly, and if it weren’t for her mother being there for her she would’ve grown resentful of herself long ago.

Awhile later the life she had known since birth suddenly fell apart. While she didn’t have much knowledge on it, it had been growing more apparent that Malefors forces were running more and more rampant, and where quickly making their way to Ariva, precautions had been taken in the event if they were to make it to the castle, but even then the battle was almost completely one-sided, and Ariva was taken over.

King Alavar himself perished while doing his best to fend the dark forces off whilst getting his wife and children out through the evacuation tunnel under the castle. Serena and Velia got fairly far, making it to a large forest miles away from Ariva, but then more of Malefors army suddenly appeared, overrunning Serena and causing her to drop the egg in a river, where it was immediately swept out. In her last moments, Queen Serena pleaded for Velia to run and not look back no matter what, and so she did, using her Shadow abilities to aid in her escape in her panic. For the next 18 years she was alone, not risking contact with anyone out of fear of scorn due to her appearance and abilities, and also because it seemed everywhere she went Malefors forces were unrelenting in trying to kill her, and this combined with the trauma of that night made her vindictive and spiteful, with also retained innocence that she did not allow herself to lose so she wouldn’t become like the creatures who caused this.

She met Avia for the first time on accident as a matter of fact, she had been brooding in the cave she had grown to call her temporary home when she heard the sound of a pack of dreadwings, Velia reflexively cloaked herself in darkness, expecting them to burst into the cave at any moment, but when she heard a feminine, unfamiliar sounding scream she blinked, startled. She peered out and realized that had no idea she was even there, and instead their attention was on a white and gold colored Dryphon trying to fend off the beasts, from the way one of its large feathered wings hung limply beside them as they fought, it was clear she couldn’t fly away from them, though they seemed to be doing fine until one of the beasts managed to get behind the Dryphon and strike them down.

Velia wasn't about to watch anyone die from Malefors forces, especially not one of her kind, she gave a loud roar to catch their attention and jumped forward, unlike the other Dryphon whom had been wounded before the initial fight, she was in perfect condition, and it wasn’t long before the already weakened beasts gave up and left.
The black-furred female would've preferred to have left right then, as while she felt no disdain for her race, in her past experiences most of them still reacted in fear of her, but she knew she would have to check how injured her fellow Dryphon was so she wasn't leaving them to their death, she turned around to question how they were feeling, and almost stumbled in disbelief when she saw how much like her late mother the white and gold female looked, this combined with the clear diamond mark on her forehead could only mean one thing, the egg that had been lost all those years ago… Had survived, this Dryphon was her sister.

Avia too regarded Velia in what seemed to be amazement, and after what felt like hours of staring, with a surprising level of calm she told Velia that she knew who she was, and, smiling in wonder, said that while she had wondered about it at times, as anyone would upon learning they had a long-lost sibling, she never imagined she would actually meet her one day. Feeling conflicted in more ways that could be put into words, Velia breathlessly led her to the cave to treat her injuries, and Avia tried (and failed) to get Velia to talk to her, and the next morning when she had almost fully recovered, she asked if she would see her again, in which the mysterious older Dryphon replied “It would be best for you if you didn't.”

But Avia didn't seem to think so, for just when Velia was about to leave the area behind the next day Avia was sitting right there at the mouth of the cave, determination flaring in her deep blue eyes, after awhile of somewhat one-sided arguing Avia eventually convinced Velia to give her a chance and not leave just yet, this was the point where Velia could no longer hold her stoic front and began to cry, touched beyond words that she had found someone who actually wanted her in their life after so long.

Over the next several months, the two sisters slowly but surely got to know eachother, Velia opened up to Avia in ways she thought she never would to anyone again, and it didn’t take long for the formerly solitary Dryphon to view her sister as the light in her life, and her best friend. However, there was still the matter of their kingdom being under Malefors control, which concerned her greatly for she felt she was useless to do anything about it for she was only one Dryphon, and had never even been near her home ever since that night, but Avia was confident, stating that one day, the two would find a way to save their Kingdom, and people, and take their rightful place on the throne.

Other

She has a lifetime-long fear of thunderstorms, which is ironic considering one of the elements she wields is lightning and will adamantly refuse to step foot outside if she feels one is arriving. She actually did abstain from using this ability for weeks after discovering it out of irrational fear, though that’s one of those embarrassing stories you’d be hard-pressed to get her to repeat.

As implied before, due to her Gryphon ancestry she has notably catlike mannerisms, her claws are retractable, she grooms when relaxing, naps when bored, has an affinity for shiny objects, and her pupils are wide and round when docile, and form to slits when angry or concentrated on something.

The jewelry she wears was made her herself, and has a similar design to what her mother wore when she was alive.

Some definitions of the word Velia are “Hidden” and “Veiled” which is obviously extremely reminiscent of her nature.

She’s an insomniac, which could also be another justification for her tendency to nap when she has nothing to do, and is also because as a Shadow-Weilder her abilities are slightly enhanced in dark environments, so the added energy makes her restless at night.

She cannot swim, mostly out of never coming into a situation where it was necessary for her to learn, she considered learning at a point, due to an incident where she had been shot out of the air in a fight and landed into a large body of water beneath, the presence of her sister the only thing that kept her from drowning that day, but that very incident also made her paranoid of the notion of swimming, so it has yet to happen.

She can use the end of her tail like a quill pen to write.

She has a massive sweet-tooth, particularly for chocolate, and indulges it more often than she’d ever admit.

Her laugh sounds like an "evil chuckle" which she is embarrassed about for she feels it sounds too "sinister."
