New contest ideas?
Now that the glitch contest is over, does anyone have any ideas for contests we could do now?
Some ideas I'm thinking of doing:
- Speedway contest (fastest time)
- Skateboarding contest (highest score)
Any others?

Re: New contest ideas?
I think we could race on all of the speedways (Spyro 1,2,3) and get points each round (1st place most points etc...) and the most points total wins.

Re: New contest ideas?
you mean like, re-modelling the levels? In some modelling tools like Blender, 3DS max, etc. ?
Btw I also have an idea, but just a little one ^.^ It would be something like taking a screenshot in some special/unusual/funny situation (something like this or this for example (glitches can be used too if they can make some funny moment)) and the best one wins but idk what would be the price ^.^'

Re: New contest ideas?
That sounds like a fun idea!
I wonder if I'd be able to find something better than my signature pic...
Is the screenshot in your signature a result from hacking, or just extreme patience?

Haha, parody fanfic contest? Count me in for that one.

Might work if enough people would participate, but seeing as I don't know the first thing about 3D modelling I think someone else would have to judge.
Going off Gekoncze's original idea, what about caption contests? We could rotate who takes the screenshot to be captioned every contest.

Why don't we make this map contest a 3 month ordeal. We can start it next Saturday?

Re: New contest ideas?
What about a game maker contest! People would try making some very simple spyro related game and with a bit of creativity it might be fun ^.^ What do you gals and guys think?
it seems like everybody's making a fan game all of a sudden anyway, so o.O
while they're doing that, might as well have a contest

That is a really good idea! Might give people a little bit more motivation to complete their games.

Never ask what I'd do for a klondike bar. No one wants to go down that road.

Re: New contest ideas?
I don't think we need to make a contest out of game making. That's just my opinion, others might like it. But to me, it's rushing the people to finish a game and that could make it come out worse than it should. I vote having a contest for an Enter the Dragonfly Slide. Although, it would be cool to have a fangame contest, I just think that'll turn out bad and will pressure people to rush their game. And what CuttingEdge said, not many people have the time and resources to make a game in a deadline for a contest like this.

Re: New contest ideas?
There wouldn't necessarily have to be a deadline, but honestly, if the deadline is realistic, like, say, six months to a year from now for a small game (or even a month for a very small minigame), it could actually help game makers keep their interest and productivity throughout the development cycle.

Re: New contest ideas?
Sounds like a good idea if enough people were interested. I certainly don't have any idea or interest about how to make a game, but it would be cool to see other peoples'. I would assume that we would still have regular contests on the side as well, so it's not like it would take the place of the normal ones or anything.

Re: New contest ideas?
And on top of this contest taking as long as you say Stormy, there'll be very little people that will try for it. Honestly, making a game for a contest doesn't ever turn out great. Especially a game from a random fan. It's not a horrible Idea, but for contests, I'd not want to be rushed and have a deadline for a game that I would voluntarily make. And a 6 month-1 year contest is pretty long...

Re: New contest ideas?
I don't agree at all; I think some competitiveness could inspire people to make better games. And deadlines (in addition to being an important part of the real world) keep people from falling into the trap of thinking they can take as long as they want and eventually losing interest in the whole thing. If that wouldn't be you, you don't have to participate.
Most of the game projects right now, in all honesty, are way too big. Some motivation to actually do something with the ideas, along and some guidelines for making a very simple, small-scale game, would at least help a little, if only in terms of gaining experience. It definitely won't hurt, because, honestly, I don't believe many of the game ideas on this forum right now are ever going to be finished as it is, and that's putting it kindly.
And really, if 6 months to a year is too long for you for a contest, how do you ever expect to keep working on a game for that long? I think you are right that a lot of people wouldn't go for it, or would drop out after a while, but if they can't stick with it for that long... their game was never going to be finished, anyway.
Sounds like a good idea if enough people were interested. I certainly don't have any idea or interest about how to make a game, but it would be cool to see other peoples'. I would assume that we would still have regular contests on the side as well, so it's not like it would take the place of the normal ones or anything.
Yeah, this would definitely be an ongoing, background kind of thing. We'd still have regular short-term contests for sure.
By the way, I don't think a contest from Enter the Dragonfly would go over well, in all honesty. It's not exactly a popular game. I think people would probably skip out on anything to do with ETD.

Re: New contest ideas?
I'm starting to like the idea of game contest more and more :3 and I really meant just a smallish simple game, maybe like 'fireball area' which was in spyro's lair if anybody remembers (of course the graphics won't be so nice, maybe you could use the heads of the villians (cut them from some picture) and make them fly there instead of the bugs ^.^) And I agree with Stormy on the deadlines. It can motivate us to keep working on the games and maybe we could learn a bit about planning the game to fit it into the given time and if we fail then we will find which part was the one we understimated (for example when I started with my first games, I would never guess how long can debugging sometimes take) But I'm a bit worried how many people would join.
I could do the ETD sliding one, but I would need to record it with my phone which has recording resolution about 320x240 ^.^' (or just take picture of the time if that was fine) and I hated that minigame for some reason xD, but I can do it!
