Re: A new spyro fan game following the classic trilogy?
I just colored what ever... I know I need alittle more detail but idk what, like the cap and the 4 blue supports vertical with 2 bolt on each of them needs it.
Edit: I just realized at the time of this post that you guys started (as a forum group) a 2D(?) game of Spyro and see your current issue with gems. If that project is unity I can help indirectly with code (As i can see its C#) or LOVE2D. I post here because I'm afraid saying about my abilities about coding on that forum might not be right.

Do you mean this game? It's not in unity. It's in javascript / html 5.

Oh well... nvm,
I'll look forward to it. I was never a fan of Java Script even though its language looked similar.

Re: A new spyro fan game following the classic trilogy?
What I don't like on javascript so far is poor support for OOP, for example inherence. I still didn't kind of get it.. and typing "this" keyword all the time is also a bit annoying.

Indeed, it looks amazing The walking seems a little slow and stiff (unless the slowness is just an illusion caused by the animation), but I guess this is simply because of the early stage in the development process.

Re: A new spyro fan game following the classic trilogy?
Before you start designing levels, I think you should get the movement of Spyro down the way you want it to be. You could try replaying the Spyro games and attempting to copy those controls, or you could go for your own feel. As of right now, the movement looks pretty slow and floaty, and the level you designed seems to be designed for this floatiness.
I'm not sorry if I offended you.

Re: A new spyro fan game following the classic trilogy?
yea... The movement was mostly based off of other peoples gameplay videos, its been a while I played the series but my sister tried playing it to show me the movements, still hard to copy/pull it off. You can tell me how many Spyro length per second he moves (since we are only referencing him for now) like if you look at one part of the ground texture or some corner next by him and see how long it takes to move from the front of him to the back of his tail. I already know his jump height which is one high of him plus a little more.
I will tweak parts while I make other stuff. So far not much of a problem other than physics getting in my way sometimes. Also seeing the comments in youtube being similar issues plus issues with camera positioning. It isn't all that bad. Then one guys asks for alpha/beta testing, I'm like if I ever make this public to download, I'm going to get loads of messages of problems I already know, so when I feel like it.

Re: A new spyro fan game following the classic trilogy?
Movement is also a lot about aesthetic, the movement of your game might seem floaty in part due to the camera. If I remember correctly, in the original games, your camera zoomed in a bit when you charged, and I'm pretty sure it was much more zoomed in than that to begin with. Think about this; in games like Call of Duty or Battlefield, you can sprint. When you do, your character lowers his gun and you get an animation that looks like you'd be sprinting. However, if you didn't get this animation, the game would seem a lot different when sprinting. Newer games feel a lot more floaty with their movement, and I don't like this. I like when games like Garry's Mod have exact movement. I'm getting off-topic, though. Basically, the feel of your movement is a lot in part to how it looks. The japanese version of Spyro feels a lot different than any other version because of the camera. Don't make your camera like that one, though. That one sucks.

Re: A new spyro fan game following the classic trilogy?
Yea I think that camera was too far away, also should I make the camera look directly at spyro? or leave it this way because I notice it now in a gameplay video that its always at his head while mines looked a little above...
I know I had the camera right in my blender version I wasn't too much into the camera when I was transferring over to unity.

You can have it behind him, either looking right at his head or slightly above it to get the closest as you can to the original.

Re: A new spyro fan game following the classic trilogy?
I did some testing with Spyro 2 in my emulator:
He seems to take approximately 0.25 seconds to accelerate from 0 to a top speed of 4 Spyro lengths per second, and a little more than 0.5 seconds to decelerate back to 0 (from top speed) when you stop the movement input.
When standing still, it takes around 0.5 seconds for him to turn 180 degrees. When walking/running(not charging) he turns 90 degrees at about 0.36 seconds, while an attempt at turning more than 90 degrees takes him out of "walking/running mode", making him decelerate and switch(I believe) to the 0.5-0.6 seconds per 180 degrees rate, and he won't accelerate again before facing the input direction.

That statistics. I'll keep this pinned. Thanks for all the numbers!

Re: A new spyro fan game following the classic trilogy?
Didn't realize Unity 4.6 was out to download, before it was those who payed (I think). Finally I can get some GUI done and give a burst of more nostalgia to others.
Even though the book idea will work, I don't have the render to texture thing to give an image thing in the corner when you pause the game, unless there is a work around or unless you don't mind not having it there (I wish I can but I have the Free version).

Re: A new spyro fan game following the classic trilogy?
Hey summer vacation is coming! Horray!!! Soon I will return to fixing up my game, though I have to do it slowly because the new Unity seems to take too long to convert everything over.
<OffTopic ButStillMyCurrentStatus>
Right now I'm sorta caught looking on this >.>
If you hadn't noticed yet, this is someone working on Rayman after that "Rayman leak for SSB4" on Youtube.
Hopefully he adds more non-Nintendo childhood games such as Crash or Spyro etc, but idk. I'll make another topic if Spyro does get added.
Hope......
