Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Since Gekoncze mentioned graphics, I decided to make gem and basket sprites... The vase looked pretty small in comparison to the basket, so I made a scaled-up version, but now I wonder if I may have overdone it.
Opinions?
Also, about a week ago I did a small bit of programming and made the line breaks in the dialogue come only between words. Dunno if the commit was noticed, since I didn't say anything about it here. If you've done any programming since your last commit, Geko, I hope this didn't interfere with anything you might have been working on ^.^'
I'm going to try to do some programming or other work on the game on Sundays from now on

Nice work, maybe are they a bit too large?

I've seen the commit and no, I haven't done anything yet
too much of uni.
The vase looks too wide to me. Basket seems alright.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Alright, I'll shrink the basket just a few pixels and fix the vase
I also think I'm going to render some gems rolling in circle, as the straight-up static gems I made feel a bit... static
Edit:
Done!
Modeling, making a rendering program and adding the gems took some work, but I'm very happy with the result

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Perfect! I love it! This might encourage me a bit to work on it more :3
Can't wait to see the chests break apart when charged / flamed. I think we could use the actual sprite, cut it in peaces, maybe edit it a bit. Then ingame create the peaces of the chest on its place when its destoyed and give them some random direction, speed and rotation and maybe add some other tiny particles as lines and/or dots. (I think when collecting gems, some lines appear, flying around (in the ps1 games))

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
I can totally do voices, I just don't know which ones I would do. I think you guys know what my voice sounds like at this point
Also, sorry to say, but when I said I could do music, I was going through a sort of phase where I thought I could make music, but that kind of passed. Sorry about that, but I still want to help this project in any way I can.
To whoever will do the music, I will gladly give them a folder containing all of the audio samples I gathered from the soundtrack of the Spyro games.
I'm still dedicated to helping this project, so I'll do voices, maybe some writing if those guys are unavailable, level design? maybe? Game design is a thing I like to dabble in the idea of, and I consider myself fairly knowledgeable in how it works, stuff like that.
But, yeah, sorry for the problems, I'm bad at figuring out what I'm good at. I know you wanted dedicated people for the project so feel free to give me hell lol.
Would you mind PMing me that folder with those audio samples Flapjacks? I told my fiancé about you guys needing someone to do the music, and he got really excited. He's got heaps of music making software and he's experimenting right now trying to come up with a sample track. He's trying to incorporate that "recapitulated" sound that we found in several tracks from Spyro the Dragon as well.
Also, well done Sheep! Those look spectacular. This game is looking really nice. I think the basket and vase size is perfect also.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Thanks:)
I made a new commit with the gems I've already shown, as well as bouncing gem value digits and a temporary(?) basket fragment particle
Can't wait to see the chests break apart when charged / flamed. I think we could use the actual sprite, cut it in peaces, maybe edit it a bit. Then ingame create the peaces of the chest on its place when its destoyed and give them some random direction, speed and rotation smile and maybe add some other tiny particles as lines and/or dots. (I think when collecting gems, some lines appear, flying around (in the ps1 games))
Yeah, I agree, that would be cool! Yep, there are sparkly dot particles trailing after the vase fragments, and two kinds of line particles, one yellow/orange-ish(I think) that doesn't seem to change direction, coming from the chest when broken, and it's fragments when they disappear, and a white one that lives a bit longer and moves around at random, coming from gem value digits when they disappear.
Edit:
Implementing charging...
Edit:
Done!
Committed to GitHub.
For those not on GitHub, here's a .zip:
http://host-a.net/u/Greenblizzard/spyro … arging.zip
(open 'page.html' in the src folder)
Changed the controls scheme a bit:
Left and Right are still sideways movement, but S is now jump, while A
is charge and D is flame. I think W can work as Triangle, for looking
around and talking.

Yeah, I'll get on that right away. I'm missing a few major samples, but maybe I can try digging those up later.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Thanks for sending those. Sorry it took me a while to respond. College has been crazy this week.
What are the requirements for the music? Does it have to strictly sound just like classic Spyro music, or can it have a classic Spyro feel with some fresh elements? My fiancé is working on a desert themed track, since that's the theme of the level in the pictures. I think it sounds pretty good, but he wants to "perfect" it more before you guys hear it. I'm trying to convince him to make an account on here so that I don't have to be the go-between. Lol.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
No specific requirements, I would say to just make them fit the levels.
And Flapjacks, sorry it's taken so long to reply. Don't worry about the music, and you can absolutely try something else. I'll assume voice acting for now, but if you want to try anything else, let
me know.
The structure I originally planned has pretty much fallen apart anyways (my fault for being inactive around here), but that's okay. Everything's looking awesome, and we will eventually have a game, even if the process wasn't exactly like what I thought it would be.

We've got a pretty good track coming along. I may post it here in the next few days. Is there a length requirement?

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
[insert earthshaper here]
Since no one has responded, I don't think anyone has a very strong opinion on the matter, but I'd probably say minimum 1 minute or something like that. Just not so short it's entirely repetitive The PS1 Spyro tracks seem to vary between roughly 2 and 4 minutes.
Looking forward to hear it

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Ah, sorry, I totally meant to respond to this and somehow forgot. D: But yeah, no real time limit; 2 minutes should be good, and it should loop well (or fade out) so it can replay as many times as it takes to finish the level.

Not dead yet!
Added a gamepad support but it seems to work only in firefox yet. Testers should try it out if it works. There might still be an issue with badly mapped buttons... I'm going to add button change support soon.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't work. I'm not sure if there's some sort of way I have to activate it, but I messed around with my gamepad and nothing worked.

Hm, it should work out of the box on firefox, did you try it on it and which version do you have? The gamepad support was added in recent versions I think.
