Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Yet again, it's far too long since I contributed. Time to get going again!
Here's another 'hurt state' sprite:
(I'm starting easy with one that literally only required a single drawing plus a very slight stretch for two of the images, which again are rotated clones of each other.)
Edit:
Insert lava!

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Ratchet5 made a video about this fangame. I'd love to work on the music for this one, as I have a lot of the famous Spyro 2 drum sounds / atmospheres / samples.
I REALLY hope you guys keep working on this. It's the most fluid fan-game so far.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Music would be great! We had someone who was trying to make some a while back. No idea how that turned out O.o (I've also been pretty much as silent and inactive since then, though, so I won't blame anyone else for doing the same xD)
I will certainly keep working on it, but it's on and off, though. Not a constant project. The progress is slow, but if I get tired, uninterested or busy, I just take a break. (Usually long ones ) Then I come back to work on it again when I feel like it, or it's been too long. Right now is an on-period.
Spyro gliding out of a portal:
For the portal transition, I plan to make some kind of zoom in/out effect where only the level and the things in it are scaled, while Spyro and the sky remain the same. I think it will look pretty cool
Spyro in a whirlwind:

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
I can make the music, if you'd like! Just give me a hint or idea of what you're going for in the level and I shall try to make some theme music with KLANGFARBENMELODIE (tone colour melody)
Or, I could remake some original Spyro music, or re-use some that I have made previously

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
I'm not entirely sure yet what levels we're going to have... we discussed some possibilities in this thread: http://www.spyroforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=13964
The most significant ones were probably the Artisans themed/inspired homeworld, a snowy evening carnival and a dream-like mystical forest that gradually turns scary/nightmareish... Probably also a Peace Keepers-like canyon place since that's what I made prototype resources for. I'm not 100% sure about anything, though xP

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
I use Logic Pro, which is a fantastic DAW. Been using it for years and I'd love to help out. Waffled, I hope you continue with your game as well!
As for level ideas, I like what you have so far.
Here are some suggestions:
- A crystalised level. Or elements of that. It's a nice callback to the first game and it could be a little bit like Crystal Islands.
- A factory. We never really see this in Spyro the Dragon. Fireworks Factory doesn't really count.
- Mountain levels are always cool and can be arty and hopefully fun to make.
- A thick, deep jungle. Because why not. Crash Bandicoot.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Yeah, I think we're going to make some kind of crystal caves. Factory... might be something with the charm of Metropolis could work Definitely opens up for some gameplay possibilities. And I can never get enough of lush jungles.
A powerup idea: Bubble powerup. Spyro is coated & trapped nside a big bubble and can float (somewhat slowly) in the air. The bubble bursts when he does an attack move. Not entirely sure about it, but sharing it anyway.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Actually, on second thought, CrystalFissure can do the music if he wants. I've got quiet a bit on my musical plate already, so I don't mind if somebody does it instead. However, this game will probably not be complete until far into the future, and seeing that music will probably come last in development, it may not matter at this point. My fan game could be completed before then so I could be freed up to do the music, but I might take a break after all that
So yeah, CrystalFissure has Logic Pro (which is designed for producing quality audio playback) and I have Sibelius 7.1.3 (which is designed for writing sheet music for orchestras. The audio playback feature is mostly just there to give an idea of what it sounds like so the instruments aren't exactly quality). I can step down on this one if he wants to contribute instead. I mean, listen to the quality of his music...
Oh, and thanks for the support m8 (or whatever Aussie's say these days... )!

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
I'll have to get back into producing. Haven't had much time lately, but yeah. I wonder what sort of vibe you want from this game music, though. Do you want full tracks or more 8-bit sounds? I personally wanna use a lot of the Spyro 2 drum loops that I have and make something like that, with deep chords and vibrant guitars and vibraphones. Something that is listenable.
Anyway, how is the fangame going? Can we have some updates?

I think full tracks is the way to go. Basically something that sounds like Spyro... so I agree with you there
Anyway, how is the fangame going? Can we have some updates?
This thread currently is our 'state if things' thread, so I think you can assume there hasn't been much going on since last time. I've personally just been extremely tired since I started school again(plus having a cold), and for a couple of weeks have had next to no time or energy to do anything at all programming or game development related. Or even do anything on my computer.
Before that, though I started working on a Spyro style sky modelling tool, which is getting along quite well, but still lacking some features(saving and loading, for instance). I'm making it partially to help me create backgrounds for this game, which was the main and initial reason, but also my own game(Rusken), and whoever needs it for their own fangames. I also hope to be able to import and edit and export the sky models of the ps1 games' format to be used with the SpyroEdit, although I haven't even looked at the format yet.
Proof of concept screenshots:
I've made two or three attempts at this kind of project earlier, but without the right idea of how to do the modelling. I think I got it better this time. There's no magical make-my-sky-button - you need to consciously place each vertex, connect them with triangles and give them colours and so on, but compared to 3d modelling tools like Blender, it's "streamlined" to more efficiently do this task only, with all vertices being locked to a sphere and so on.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Wow, that looks incredible! I'd love to try and make these vertex skyboxes as well, as the style is fantastic. And anything that can bring Rusken 3D back is good to me! Who else is in charge of coding this game? Keep up the great work though, and sorry that you're sick! I was sick for almost a month with phlegm and all that annoying stuff. Glad to be better.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Not super important but, does anybody working on the music have the koto instrument? It's the "plucking" sounding instrument used primarily in Spyro 1 and it's one of my favourite instruments used in the soundtrack.
Really brings additude to Spyro.
Edit: That skybox is spot on, thumbs up. You should do tuts after this is done.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
They who uploaded the above video, Greg Keogh, identified some of the instruments that might've been used in Spyro, the koto of which he used for the remix.
He'd be a good person to talk to for more info.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Heads up for the developers! I've made a Spyroforum organization on GitHub and added the game as a repo to it. I've also made a Gitter chat for the repo to simplify and consolidate collaboration. This way when you guys need to talk about what you're working on you don't need to use the forum to do so and instead you can have that discussion be integrated with the repo. If anyone needs invites for either of these please PM me!
Also please use the Gitter for development talk relating to your work on the fan game only. We already have IRC, Skype, AND Discord for casual discussion.
I'd really like to get this project going again and join in on the development side of things a bit myself if there's any way I could.

Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd
Oh, yeah, I didn't work on this for a while, I've seen that some chat appeared there though. I'm still hoping I'll get back to it, but I have enough programming at school and can't see it anymore >.<
--------------------------------------------------
EDIT: I got a message on deviant art from CraftyMaelyss, who suggested someone for voice acting
the message:
CraftyMaelyss said the following:
HI, you don't know me but I came across that Spyro fan game yourself and others are working on and I happen to know a brilliant voice actor who sounds very similar to the classic Spyro(he voiced Spyro in my creepypasta)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YllvkL4TCDI
If you're interested, I can ask him if he's up to voicing Spyro again
Also I myself can do voices, here are some examples here of what I can do:
also
Also I have an idea that might help you guys get more attention or support for your game.
I'm able to make custom mouse cursors and I was wondering if you would like me to use some of your game sprites to make mouse cursor or icon files for you guys to share?
What do you think?

Exactly the same is the case for me. A few times, I might get the time and motivation to dive back into it during the school year, but that didn't happen this year. Now summer is ahead, though, so I'm ready to do some work again
Edit: Just a quick and easy sprite as a first thing to do - Flattened Spyro death:

Hi everyone. First, I'm sincerely sorry I haven't been active for awhile. Life kind of threw a curve ball at me. What is the progress on the game? What can I do to help? Has the story/dialogue been written yet?
