Re: Spyroforum Fan Game - Week of June 23rd

Hi, nice to see you back! big_smile The progress is slow, and most of us - me included - take really long breaks from the project, so don't worry. I don't think there's been much discussion or work revolving story or dialogue. I guess throwing around more in-depth ideas with focus on various levels' stories, characters/creatures(both friendly and enemies), dialogue, objectives and so on could be helpful. Very few of these things have been decided on on any level, so it's definitely something that needs work. Even if we don't end up using specific levels, these kinds of elements could be tweaked to work in whatever levels we actually do end up with, or can serve as inspiration in either case.

I believe this is the final death sprite:

Next thing for me will be to dive back into the code and... do things.

Anyway, I've been thinking about an idea for enemy/character sprites, and how to make them with the same style as the Spyro sprites I've made so far. What I'm thinking about is making animated low poly 3d models like in the PS1 games and then render them to a sprite sheet, but with a custom shader to get a similar effect to how Pokémon are rendered during battle in the 3DS Pokémon games, with darker outlines and cel shading. It may sound complicated and like a lot of work, but the same can be said of animating relatively big pixel sprites by hand, at least for me.
This is the test model I've made so far(a fire wizard), though I haven't yet gotten around to making the actual renderer.

Can't blame you, considering Spring Savannah is a GO now.
