Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
I can't remember the last time a game trailer made me giddy! Plus if this sells well, which it will, I believe Spyro will get the same treatment.

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
Looks great, although I believe this first was announced way back at E3. Either way, it's great to see some of the game in action; they definitely put in a lot of effort into overhauling the visuals. I definitely picked a good time to purchase a PS4 with this coming out along with The Last of Us Part II.
Good sales and reception of this game would be awesome. If people put their money where their mouth is, I feel like a Spyro remake actually might have some legs.

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
Glad someone made a thread about this. I can't stop looking at gameplay footage, it looks that good! Thanks, VV and Activision for showing the industry what a remaster should look like. I'm also glad to see an old underdog make a strong comeback, they probably don't know how much this means for the industry.
On the Spyro side, this plus the cancellation of Skylanders 2017 seems to all but confirm that Spyro is going to follow suit, which makes me giddy.

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
Skylanders 2017 isn't confirmed to be cancelled, it's a huge rumor at the moment since there are no official sources that state it.
If the Crash HD remasters do well, then Activision may consider doing a HD remaster on Spyro, while Skylanders still goes on.

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
The gameplay footage is so frustrating to watch because nobody knows how to play Crash Bandicoot. They run right past all the Wumpa fruit and spin the jump boxes.
But yeah I second Paranoia, super glad I bought a PS4 right about now.

I spin attack the jump boxes too because they take far too long to break otherwise.

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
I'm fairly excited about this, even though I don't have a PS4 and don't currently have a plan to get one. While it doesn't look perfect, it's much, much better than what I feared, and so much of it is so spot on I almost can't believe it. My main gripes are the too bright, less vibrant lighting, the unsatisfyingly slow wunpa collection(don't understand what they were thinking!) and Crash looking rather awkward at times.
The gameplay video worked much better for me than the trailer did. The trailer was slightly cringeworthy for me, with the use of signs and too much of Crash expressing his whacky personality, combined with gameplay from angles it wasn't meant too look good from. My point is that while Crash does at times stick out his tongue and act like a goofy, brainless madman, showing only this aspect made him seem more like in the later games, like Twinsanity where he has this constant idiotic grin, as opposed to in the originals where he shows both strain and anxiety to some extent while going through levels, but kicks off his whackiness in worthy moments of excitement, like completing a level, jet board surfing or posing for photos. I mean, he is conciously cool and whacky, not mindlessly oblivious to his own appearance.
Luckily the gameplay looked much more like the good old Crash I know and love, so I'm eagerly awaiting more. I don't really care about Spyro remasters, but if Crash heads in the direction of a new game spun around the old formula, I'd love to see the same for Spyro!

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
i'm not enough of a crash fan to really care about these remakes that much; i'm not a huge stickler for graphics so i'd just emulate the games if i wanted to play them. however, if they release a spyro remaster, i'll actually probably be pretty angry, because it's almost certainly going to be ps4 exclusive if it happens, and i'd probably want to play it. i wouldn't count on sony making many more big ps4 releases, though. it's getting to the "winding down" stage and they'll probably announce a new console mid 2018 if i were to make an educated guess.
I'm not sorry if I offended you.

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
Glad I'm not the only one who's not that hyped about this. I always kind of sucked at the flagship Crash Bandicoot games. Never really found their linear and almost side-scrolling levels very exciting, either, after playing Spyro.
As for a Spyro remake, tbh I don't even really care about that possibility. I'd probably only buy it if they added new content of some kind. I've played those games so many times and don't really care about seeing the same thing with better graphics.

the main thing i would like about an hd remake of spyro is 60 fps. of course, if it were ps4 exclusive, that probably wouldn't even happen.

i never understood why so many people want an HD remake of Spyro so badly. like... why? it's like, ... the graphics look different. and that's it.

Well I would hope they at least tweak it to make it a bit different other than just graphics. More importantly, I think a Spyro HD remake would bring Spyro back into the spotlight and revitalize the franchise and finally get us a brand new game.

I look at it differently. The Playstation had a ton of limitations at the time, which are extremely evident when looking at the game today. Insomniac had a lot of great ideas to deal with these limitations, such as the simplification and blurring of background polygons to keep the game running well even when viewing large level vistas. If done well, it wouldn't just be a remake of Spyro, but a look at what potential Spyro or other 3D platform games have on new hardware. Since I love the original Spyro series and have played it through countless times, I'd love to have another excuse to play them again with a cool twist of modern graphics (or at least more modern - since we're talking about the 3-year-old PS4 vs PC). Also there's the purely mental factor - understanding that the devs and enough people care about Spyro's legacy to put the effort into a remake.
Though when I think about it, I would probably be super critical of a remake. I'm enjoying the new Ratchet and Clank (which is reimagining of the original on PS2), but I find the music to be a bit lacking, and the new cutscenes forced. It somehow has less character than the original game, which is a little sad.

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
i would be interested in seeing what spyro would look like with modern graphics, but i simply don't trust anyone except maybe insomniac themselves to be able to correctly replicate the style.
i never understood why so many people want an HD remake of Spyro so badly. like... why? it's like, ... the graphics look different. and that's it.
people like shiny graphics. it's not that hard to understand.
if you're a more reasonable person though, some upsides would be it would mean that the game gets a chance to shine without the technical barriers of the past. like paranoia said, the playstation had a lot of limitations. spyro is an example of a game that worked through those limitations, but it doesn't mean that the game wasn't slightly held back by them. spyro was (i think) the first game to have render distance, meaning textures that are far away have lower fidelity (which back then, meant basically just one flat color), and therefore take less power to render. the downside of this is that far away textures in spyro games are just flat colors with no details. this kinda sucks on any level where the walls have detailed textures, because it's really noticeable when the texture suddenly changes from a flat color to a fully rendered texture.
also, something that kinda sucks for people who want to play spyro on an emulator is that the higher the resolution of the game is, the more warped the polygons begin to look. this means that as time goes on, if you want to emulate spyro in a non-scaled resolution, unless you're playing in a tiny window, the polygons are going to look terrible.
basically, an hd remake would fix any problems one could run into trying to play spyro relating to its age. it would make it much more accessible to people who maybe don't have an easy way of getting a ps1/2 and copies of spyro games, or who don't know how/can't run an emulator.
but mainly 60fps is the important part

I really don't get the fps stuff. Unless the fps is super bad I really can't tell the difference.
ie 30 and 60 look the same to me

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
i mean, if you don't play games on pc that often, you probably wouldn't think you could tell the difference; but if you saw them side-by-side you would definitely see a major difference. to some people it matters less, though.
then there's the whole "the human eye can't see past 30fps anyway" thing from horrible sites like neogaf.

The fact that I need a side by side to tell the difference is enough evidence that it's not very important to me

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
i just used that as an example. but, true, maybe it's not very important to you. i know that i can definitely tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps without any kind of comparison, though. frame drops are very noticeable to me in games as well, even if it's something like a drop from 60 to 45 fps. i know a game isn't very well optimized when it has frame drops significant enough for me to notice.

I'm not really bothered by 30 vs. 60 much either, as long as the framerate is constant. Framedrops and stuttering really annoy me though

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (HD Remakes)
I wasn't gonna get a Playstation 4. Well consider me in. I can't wait til this gets out. I even did a marathon gaming on this not long time ago.
If it wasn't for this game i wouldn't even get a PS4. I am gonna buy both this and Final Fantasy 15. I am gonna get a Playstation 4 when this game comes out. This is gonna be so great i think!
It simply looks amazing, the people who makes it must have put really hard work into this and for that i think its awesome that they did and am so thankful for it.
