Re: This is when the series ended for me.
after 3 the brand was cheapened. Ripto has been resurrected more than 2 times and each newer title became more rushed and featured lower quality gameplay. I loved the style of graphics on the PS1 games, the fancier graphics from 3 killed the magic

I've tried playing the newer ones, but I get so disappointed that I have to turn them off.
It sucks. /:

Re: This is when the series ended for me.
I agree, the only Spyro game I liked afterward was Enter The Dragonfly. I wish they could make a Spyro game like the first three on PS1 for the PS3. When Dawn of the Dragon came out i was excited but disappointed after playing it.

It obviously didn't end if it's still selling on the name branding.

Re: This is when the series ended for me.
i feel bad that the new 1s r poop the 1st 3 r the BEST (FACT). Insomniac just ran out of ideas after 3 & they never really owned it. They made it but universal technically owned it -_-. If insomniac owned it 100% then it would have kept going prob till 2002 since they started ratchet & clank (awesome game series) in that year.

Re: This is when the series ended for me.
I agree more than I disagree, but I still enjoyed the GBA games(excluding Spyro Orange/Fusion) and A Heros Tail(yes it ruined the characters, but else than that I think it was a good game).

Re: This is when the series ended for me.
I agree with what Sheep said. The first three were obviously the best and what I consider to be canon, but the other ones (excluding LoS and EtD) were somewhat enjoyable.

Re: This is when the series ended for me.
Half and half. Really, the series did go downhill a bit after this game, but I still enjoyed AHT and most of the GBA games, and I do think they could have continued to be decent games. It's nothing against TLoS, but..... Well, just check the reviews - AHT received a higher score than DOTD & TEN, and around the same score as ANB. I do honestly believe they had potential to make a comeback if they'd kept to the 'Insomniac-styled' games.

Re: This is when the series ended for me.
I can't stand the new Spyro's. I thought they were ridiculous and lacked a good storyline. Especially when it started with 'A New Beginning'. That was just... Stupid. Yes, Spyro 3 was the last real Spyro game.

Spyro the Dragon: 9/10
Gateway to Glimmer: 10/10
Year of the Dragon: 8/10
Enter the Dragonfly: 6/10
A Hero's Tail: 8/10
I own the Legend of Spyro games, but I can't bring myself to finish them.

Re: This is when the series ended for me.
So true. EtD would've been a wonderful sequel to the trilogy had it not been so glitchy. Hero's Tail was a great game, it modified the gameplay to be similar to other popular platformers at the time, but it lacked the magic we had in the original trilogy (some of this can be attributed to the musical scores of the games).
Also, Insomniac moved on because he didn't have hands to hold anything with, and thus his options were limited. However, I do recall some games (but oddly enough not the names of them) that had animals that held weapons and such in their mouth (not to mention the multiple breath idea that I'm not a big fan of) they could have used. But hey, they made a great trilogy, and I'm glad we at least got that.

Re: This is when the series ended for me.
for me, it ended after insomniac stopped making it. The only ones I play right now are the original 3 because I liked the franchise enough to play TLoS and the linearity, lack of collectable gems, lack of portals to other places, lack of even flight minigames or anything less dreary than the surrounding blah kinda ruined it. The lack of the original comedy and what they did to Hunter's goofy persona were just the last 2 nails I needed to hammer in. If they make a sequel that promises to make me forget the last 3 games, I might look into it. :<

Re: This is when the series ended for me.
I absolutely agree. The original three were just really fun games that didn't need a coherent storyline and I wish that all the later games had just been a totally new series since they have virtually nothing in common with the originals beyond the existence of a purple dragon. The original three are the only ones for me.
I like the original Spyro trilogy.
I am currently ranking the 74 main levels from it.. which you probably already know if you're reading this, since my ranking thread is basically the only place I'm posting.

Re: This is when the series ended for me.
I agree 100%. After Insomniac quite making the games, Spyro will never be the same. I wish somehow Insomniac would get him back, that would be like a dream come trrruuuueeee <3 seriously.
Imagine a new Spyro game, with the same concepts and characters of the old games, with the exceptions of maybe Flame, Ember, Malefor, Cynder, etc. But old Hunter, Bently, Sgt. Byrd, Sheila, Elora, the Professor, and so on. You collected gems and something such as eggs, orbs, or rescuing crystalized dragons. You know, the whole 'old school' theme. But with new and improved graphics, etc. That would be AMAZING <333
