[Suggestion] Option to Hide Reported Posts from Public View

Pretty self-explanatory.

I think this would be quite useful because, obviously, mods cannot be online every second of the day to monitor anything inappropriate that might come up. There are young members on this site who do not need to see the vulgarities that some trolls come up with. It would be optional, of course.

For obvious reasons, I'm not gonna link to the example that inspired this idea.

Theres a lot of abuse that can happen if members are able to hide any post they want.

I would agree with the proposed suggestion that anything NSFW or anything near that should be hidden, but of course the problem would be abuse of the system, as mentioned already. Imagine a user hating someone else (holding a grudge for example) and then constantly reports his posts so they would be hidden from view. I think that either:
- there should be a limit to how many times you can report at a certain time interval, or
- you should gain the privilege to be able to report more if you have a certain number of posts or you contribute to the site enough.

Those suggestions are measures that can help deter a run-of-the-mill forum member from abusing the reporting system. It's not foolproof, but those hopefully such measures can make a "hide reported post" system more realistic.

I guess you could have like semi-moderators. They could block posts but not have the full ability that a mod does.

2000 is kind of high. Not very many members have that many posts. I don't think it should be about post count. I think people are mature enough to handle the responsibility. You would probably also be able to choose whether or not to hide the post when you report it.

It shouldn't be on post count. Some members post useless messages to up their post count. Others just don't post a lot. (LoneKnight for Instance) It should be on an Admin recommendation.

I see a few potential problems with the post-count based thing.

1. Many people only have high post counts because they're spammers.
2. People would spam to try to reach the 2000 posts, thus creating more posts to report.
3. Like DDR said, lots of trustworthy members don't post often enough to have that kind of post count.

A system like the one I suggested is used on Neosekeer.com, and it works fairly well. People know not to abuse the feature because the report page gives strict warnings about what happens if you do.

In my opinion, the benefits would far outweigh the negatives.

I still think that SR should be the one who selects certain individual members to do it. It would take pressure off himself and the mods.
