Engines for Development

I was reading through the various topics in this group and saw a number of game engines being mentioned, but I saw the absence of one: Engine 001.
www.engine001.com
If someone could get or make the sprites for the characters, this engine would be a great choice. It is simple and easy to use and there is no code writing involved, as scripting is done in a point and click fashion.
Anyway, check it out and tell me what you think.
Post information you may have on any other game engines here.

Re: Engines for Development

I've been interested by an engine known as The Wintermute Engine.

Re: Engines for Development

Lol try source SDK (you can download it for free if you have Steam...)
Game could be released as Half Life 2 mod...

Re: Engines for Development

(I know it's a bump tongue)

Mmh Source could be a good idea since now it is ported over to Linux and Mac, but is getting old...

I would personally go for Unreal Engine 3, and maybe 4. It has been ported to Linux, and I heard here and there Mac... It is more powerful than Source, more tweakable, codable. See the proportion of new games today running under UE3. A great majority smile

Meh @ CryEngine tongue Even if a Crash game is developed on it.

Re: Engines for Development

Also, since now there is the Source Filmmaker around, it is possible to create very good trailers/machinima in games...
do you know the "Meet the Team" trailers for TF2? Well, that's Source Filmmaker big_smile
And do you imagine Spyro using a crowbar? Lol!

Re: Engines for Development

The best engine for 3D platform games imo is unity, but its pretty time consuming to work with.

Re: Engines for Development

Hmm... I could take care of model design if i'll have list of things and photo of what to design. I'll have to look for some program for it as well ._.

Never ask what I'd do for a klondike bar. No one wants to go down that road.

For modeling, Maya is usually the good choice. I have a hard time modeling in it(Probably because I never properly learned it...). For free stuff, Blender is best IMO. I use Blender to model, but Blender sucks at rigging. I use Blender for Modeling and Maya for rigging. I would recommend Maya for modeling and Rigging, but if you are Mr.Poor Dev (Not judging), use Blender and try to see if you can get Rigging better than me!

From what i can see, Engine 001 doesn't need models designed in Maya (mostly like bacause i can count pixels on my fingers tongue) But if Spectre is going to use some different engine (for example Unity 3D) Then i might have to consider that option ;_;

Re: Engines for Development

Wouldn't that just use Sprites then? You could just use Photoshop for that.

Re: Engines for Development

Photoshop for the rich folks and I recommend Paint.NET for free. It works amazing and has lots of options. Gimp never really did as good for me.

Re: Engines for Development

I would not use it right now as I have it and it is VERY buggy in terms of shaders and rendering certain objects.
