Featured threads?
In an effort to get people to make more good, thought-provoking threads, I'm thinking about starting a "Featured Thread" project.
Here's how it would probably work: the featured threads would be chosen by me (or another mod if they wanted to do it) every couple weeks or so, and the winner would earn a certain amount of gems and a subtitle on their thread stating the date it was chosen (for example, "Featured Thread 12/6/2009"). Members could send in suggestions for featured threads to me or one of the other mods by PM. Threads could be nominated from (almost) any section.
Thoughts about this? Good idea? Bad idea?

Re: Featured threads?
I think that all of the mods should vote on a thread to feature, not just one.

Re: Featured threads?
I have to agree all the mods should choose on the topic but seeing as how only two of us are on here at a constant basis I don't think it would be a huge deal if one acted as they see fit in choosing the topic. I'm all up for this idea...now you just have to convince SR

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking; it's really only the two of us that are active here so that shouldn't really be a problem for "all the mods" to vote. But yeah if you want to do this too, that would be great

Re: Featured threads?
it sounds like a good idea. but i think both mods should decide it. and since RDX likes it, that doesn't seem like a problem.
good idea here, Stormy.
btw what sections were you considering omitting? [obviously Trash..] but you wouldn't omit SPAM! there's so many meaningful and deep threads there, after all lol.

Re: Featured threads?
Announcements
SPAM
Moneybags' Shop
Contests
Fan Clubs
Spyro Art Requests
All three of the usergroups
Trash
...would all be out. Most of the for obvious reasons.
I've got more ideas for possible new sections (which if they were implemented I would expect most of the featured threads would come from) but it's still tentative and I'm not sure if they would ever happen.

Re: Featured threads?
Great idea. It'll encourage people to make more interesting threads. Let's hope there's no competition or jealously. What if that happens?

Re: Featured threads?
Well, we can't exactly do anything about people feeling too competitive or jealous.
But if they choose to harass other members or whine about it to the point of annoying everyone, I think they know what will happen.

Re: Featured threads?
Sounds pretty interesting, yeah.
I agree with what all the others said. Maybe (just an idea) you must leave spam in. You won't earn gems and you can talk about the most stupid and unusual, weirdest things, which I sometimes like. But if you don't like it, you should omit it indeed.
For the rest,

Re: Featured threads?
I definitely like it. It'll hopefully weed out most of the annoying pointless threads. If people get overly competitive or jealous then they can just get over it. If you're whining over something like that, then you're obviously not very mature.

Re: Featured threads?
A great idea, I reckon. I wonder how many threads you'd do each week. Maybe three, with a first, second and third place?
It will certainly get people actually making threads, instead of just looking for threads to post in.

Re: Featured threads?
Hmm, good idea. We'll consider that, but we'll probably just have one every couple of weeks or so to start off with until more threads start being created.

Re: Featured threads?
hmn, perhaps when a thread becomes featured, ther should be some sort of rule limiting the number of posts a person can place in it a day. To counteract spamming or those annoying one on one in thread talks. (no one like a good thread ruined by a few jerks)

Re: Featured threads?
I think we can trust people to know not to spam. We don't want to limit everyone just because of the potential for a few people to abuse this.
If they do spam though, again, they know what the consequences could be.
Oh yeah, and:
[BTW: did you or some mod destroy the wut-topic? I can't find it anymore... I must know if it's destroyed or whatever.]
I didn't do anything to any topics in SPAM. Some topics randomly get deleted in that section sometimes.

Re: Featured threads?
OK, since everyone seems to like this idea, I'm thinking we could start it at the beginning of January. I'd love to start it now, but I'm going back home from college on Tuesday for Christmas, and my parents still have Spyroforum blocked, so I'll be gone for about three weeks. It seems like it would make more sense to just wait than to make RedDragonX do it all himself.
Sound good?

Because her parents are on a crusade against the internet of course. Not really they just don't feel that she deserves that right
