Can you believe?

Ž · I am talking about those who admire the Spyro art but haven't even played the game yet...

WHY DO THEY ALL KEEP SAYING THAT CYNDER IS MALE...?!

And finally the foot was stepped down:

I've heard that there won't be any gay pics of cynder and spyro, because cynder is actually female. so there won't be any h-pics of cynder and ember either. be more like L-pics. hehe

Gah.

Re: Can you believe?

Well, I know the answer, but it's a bit complicated to word out... it involves the experience inside the furry nation, and how random things can get...

Re: Can you believe?

The people who are part of the Furry Madness are usually like this: they are attracted to any morphic/non-morphic character, as long as they're hot when looked at. In this case, the first perception that Cynder is male was pretty much in sight. Good thing I waited for the news before the game came out so I knew that Cynder was female.

Re: Can you believe?

That's the main problem with the furry nation: they don't even know the series/game but still they drool at it. (heh)

Re: Can you believe?

To be honest, I didn't know that Cynder was a female until when I actually *played* the game, lol.

---

A personal account of discovery - December 25 2006, 2:05PM

Ignitus: "Then, when we were beginning to turn the tide... Cynder came."
Spyro: "Cynder?"
Ignitus: "Yes, Cynder."

Throughout this cutscene I just take it easy, looking up at the TV screen while sipping an Orangina. The Christmas season is one of the best times to drink that substance...

Ignitus: "Cynder was... is... monstrous, horrific, ferocious, a black dragon that fills the skies with terror, an unstoppable force of nature..."
Sparx: "Ah, yeah, you had me at ferocious. Listen, sounds like that thing that was chasing us, Spyro."
Ignitus: "Yes, she still searches for me..."

When I heard Ignitus's comment, I instantly sat up and screamed "SHE?!?" at the top of my voice. I was awestruck at the time. If I had any beverages in my mouth at the time, I surely would have spit them on the screen.

Ignitus: "... and years ago I watched as Cynder plucked the other Guardians from the fields of battle, like so many ripe grapes from a vine."

And after that moment, I picked myself up and re-focused on the game again. I find it ironic that Sparx was slow on the uptake, finding out her gender after the defeat of the Ice King, lol.

---

By the looks of it, I'm turning into a more readable variant of SFRB tongue

Re: Can you believe?

I really don't know how anyone could have mistaken Cynder for a male. She's too..... curvy. Also her voice is a dead giveaway. Cree Summer did an awesome job.

Re: Can you believe?

Yes, i agree, they must hire her back to reprise her role. Wood did a good job with Spyro, he seems to have knack for voiceovers.

Cree needs to reprise any future roles big_smile
But I still think that I was slow on the uptake of trying to figure out if she was a female or not. I mean, with other female characters like Ember, the gender was easily recognisable because of stuff like hearts in some shape or form, hair patterns in the case of non-dragon characters, or even the color of their scales (which I never thought Black would actually cater well to show femininty). And bear in mind that we never got to hear her voice prior to the confrontation at her lair as well.

At least she had a feminine body evident when you're fighting her, heh.

Re: Can you believe?

Also any upright Spyro fan would have read the reviews prior to the games release If I recal correctly they mentioned Cynder was female mutiple times.

Wood was okay as Spyro. I always thought he was kind of a pretty-boy.  One of those "oh don't hit me to hard you might mess up my hair" types. Ya know? Spade was okay as Sparx but he was a bit underanimated through the game. and Gary he did a fabulous job as Ignitus. No qualms there. He was great.

Ž · Although I'd still have lack of data on the voice of Young Cynder, so I have no comment on it. Come on, what kind of data can you get with saying only 2 lines?!

That can be true, but two things -

1 - For some reason, my faith in the series dwindled since clearing A Hero's Tail (though I would blame it on the characterisations if anything). Add to the lacklustive response behind Shadow Legacy and I thought the series might have taken too serious a plunge to keep engrossed in the scene.

2 - When I heard that The Legend of Spyro was given commentary at E3 like "the most promising title in the series we've seen in a while", I took interest but not to the point of reading everything in existance (by that time I was either caught up in Animal Crossing, anticipating Kingdom Hearts 2's European release, or getting into N64 gaming). After its release I just read a couple of reviews (IGN and Gamespot, both of them not referring to Cynder's gender) as well as seeing the trailer and a couple of interviews (again not mentioning her gender), and just took it from there.

Basically saying, it was The Legend of Spyro that somehow started to get me back into the series again. In the past five months, I've replayed the Insomniac games once again, re-purchased Year of the Dragon, re-played A Hero's Tail and Attack of the Rhynocs, started taking my Spyro plush to my college dorms for comfort and even rented Shadow Legacy. If there was any announcement of a coming title in the series right about now, I'd be just like that and reading up everything in existance trying to uncover more information.

Re: Can you believe?

BOT, hmmmmmmm, i think the whole reason Krome wanted cynder to be female is because of pairings
there has been never ever a pairing in the first 3 games including spyro (spyro and Elora, bleeeehhh, give me a break)

Re: Can you believe?

Honestly, in spite of them being different species (Dragon/Faun), they actually seemed more cooperative together. I thought the pairing could have been given a lot more thought and attention if emphasized more.
Still, at the idea of a female black dragon surprised me, and you know I like surprises. End of story. tongue

Re: Can you believe?

I find nothing suprising about a female black dragon. Color doesn't determine a gender. Just look at the Dreamweavers. Nuff said.

Re: Can you believe?

Cynder I thuink was a reaction to Ember, who was a mary Sue, and really was a fan girl. If you're going to have a female dragon in the game , and have her show interest in Spyro, don't make it blantant and overbearing. Subtle works well, as the end of  NB showed.

Re: Can you believe?

I never really thought about the Mary Sue thing, though bear in mind that Spyro didn't react too well to her engagement ring request, while in most other fiction that involves Mary Sues the male protagonist tends to jump at the chance.
Still, no matter what I see Ember as some hyperactive addition. o_O()
