A Different Direction

Most of you already know that the movie has been cancelled. When I emailed one of the writers of the movie, this was his response. He also hinted about Activision going in "a different direction" in the Spyro franchise that caused the movie to be cancelled.

So sorry for the let down but we're as disappointed as you are. I'm afraid we're just the writers -- no more than hired hands. We didn't even know the project was cancelled until months after they pulled the plug.

Did you consider writing the gaming company? They're the ones who made the decision to go in a different direction. And if we knew what that direction was we'd share it with you. Again sorry for the disappointment. Wish we had more encouraging news for you.

Hmm, this is interesting. I thought they cancelled the movie because they didn't think there'd be a market, but this makes it sound like it's not going to fit with whatever "new direction" they have planned.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what it is. I admit, I'm kind of excited to find out.

Wait? How the hell would A game in TLOS and not taking part after DOTD work? So were playing as hunter as he fights the hermit's insane Pedo army?

No, I mean the game could be set in the LoS universe that has no connection with the LoS trilogy (which was made to recreate Spyro's universe), but with a different, complete storyline with the characters, already re-introduced thanks to the trilogy, in it. It would move away from the epic atmosphere that was used in the trilogy, and have a more kid-friendly tone in it.

You know with the "different direction" being developed as we speak.

Ehh, doesn't matter... It's one of those movies you would get off limewire, watch it once, then never see it again.

It's been cancelled since sometime probably in 2008, two years ago.

Activision didn't bother to tell us about the cancellation, probably to keep us occupied from asking questions about the next game.

I'm also quite excited to see what this 'new direction' is. I'm probably barking up the wrong tree to believe it has something to do with bringing the original Spyro back, so for now, I'll cross my fingers for absolutely anything that starts to drag away from TLoS.

I certainly hope they do mean a different direction. Something they haven't done before. And before you say Spyro & Crash racing, they've already done a crappy cross over I don't want to see another

I believe they are going to continue with the TLoS series, but instead of using the "Game based on Movie based on Book" trick, they will be making it more... Well better!

I don't mind sticking with the current storyline, but let's not go back to the original... We all know that it wasn't the original games that were good, but the ORIGINAL games (first 3). Would we really want to go back to AHT and ETD? That's the type of games we would get, because it wasn't the original games that were good, but the Insomniac games.

I know I will be *bleep*ing off people who liked AHT and ETD, but that's just how it is. The old series lived through it's time, and the new series (or another new series) will continue.

Whilst that's true, it's still not set in stone that the old series will never come back.

For all we know, the 'Different Direction' is bringing back the original Spyro, and changing how the game works. It's unlikely, but at this point, we don't know anything for sure.

Right when I heard about it being made, it was already my favorite movie
