Re: What we know about this game

I'd be relieved if they did change this around a bit.

Re: What we know about this game

Just the design of Spyro, fewer characters, etc.

Fewer characters would mean less junk to sell. And if they do any major changes of Spyro's design then they could very well have to change the art style of the game and redo everything.

Re: What we know about this game

I'm really looking forward to 'Skylanders'.

I'm a huge fan of the first three Spyro games and I enjoyed 'Enter the Dragonfly' and 'A Hero's Tail'. I'm not a fan of the LoS series and I'm glad that the franchise seems to have finally gone back to it's roots.

The fact that you can play as 32 different characters doesn't bother me at all, but I do wish that Activison dropped the toy gimmick and released additional characters as DLC instead, but it's not exactly a deal-breaker.

Re: What we know about this game

No Activision changed Spyro in a freaking Spore creature Creator.

Still it's to see the end result, Epic Mickey through did not seem to be going well when the trailer showed the few Nightmare fuel concept art (Rotting flesh steampunk Goofy and zombies of Old disney characters near a dead whale)

Re: What we know about this game

True on Epic Mickey, but I am still enjoying it. Sides, if they went with the concept art, well, little children wouldn't want to go to Disney World. o.o And in my opinion, that is very bad.

But ya, wait for the final result.

Re: What we know about this game

Besides, Hans Zimmer is composing the score.  He did the music for Batman Begins, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3, Inception.  If all else fails, at least the soundtrack will probably be good.

Anyone know what engine they are using?  Is it just a new engine especially for Skylanders? or did they get rights to a development kit?  It looks like they used the Unreal 3 Engine, and they were waiting for Epic to release the kit for free.  Could just be the graphic style, but it looks like the JJ iPhone demonstration.

Re: What we know about this game

You know, since you can place two characters on the portal at once... what if you have duplicates like two Trigger Happy toys or... two Spyro toys. Feels weird if you think about it.

Where does it say that two can be portalized at the same time?

"There's drop-in co-op that works if two kids each put a toy on the portal."

They don't really go into detail about it but it's suggestive at the moment. Putting two of the same charactercould create an entity exact duplicate/pallate swap/access denied. Maybe they could have a hidden costume unlocked by doing this.

interesting.  The possibilities could be endless...

Also, I never realized this part of the article:

Collecting and using more of the same element or type will add powers to the other toy characters of that same group. The portal and the game can track this, he explained, by automatically associating the toy with the portal to which it is first connected (for that reason, a child wouldn't be able to cheat by having their friends' toys pose as their own.)

Looks like they're doing their best to fool-proof it.

Re: What we know about this game

Some articles are saying that four toys or collectibles come with the starter pack.  For now, I'm assuming they are including the "Portal of Power"

Re: What we know about this game

this site (http://wii.ign.com/objects/100/100138.html) suggests that PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of this game will also be available.  This claim is probably still unofficial, but since there has never been a claim that it is Nintendo exclusive, Activision may be trying to iron out their development of PS3 and Xbox 360 version before they announced for sure that they will have them.

Re: What we know about this game

Got a few cool articles that are new.

One is very supportive of the title, and gives proof that some parts of the game will only be accesible by certain characters.  My guess though, is that as long as you have one of each 8 elements, you should be able to finish it.

And this one is an interesting article.  The first sentence calls DotD a "poorly recieved" game.

Re: What we know about this game

Well they did manage to sound it better then it is by stating the writers were actually behind the story of Toy Story when they really were not, but other then that it's a fairly interesting market ploy to generate interest in the game for the target audience, and it will most likely work.

Ploy for money? Guys!

The Eye of Judgement for the Playstation 3 - you could not win unless you had a decent amount of cards! That was outrageous, to be honest. And it's from Sony :-P

Re: What we know about this game

Found another great article that reveals new info for Skylanders.  However, some of the 'already known' details in this article suggest inaccuracy, but the new details sound pretty specific to be wrong.

http://www.buzzfocus.com/2011/03/09/sky … n-is-here/

The first thing that jumped out at me was he said the portal can hold two characters and one element.  !!!!!   What?  He's either not understanding the element thing, or there are other toy parts that are available.  Since he followed by saying that there are four elements in the game, we can assume he doesn't know what he's talking about.

But don't discredit him yet, we all make mistakes, and sometimes redeem them with awesome stuff like this:

He says that Activision has stated that 10 hours of gameplay is available for each character.  Now in contrast, Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning took me 8 hours to complete the first time through.  It also takes me about 4 hours to complete Spyro the Dragon at non-speed run pace.

And then he states that only 16 characters will be released when the game is released and that more characters will be available in 2012.

Hmmm...

Well, if this is true, let's try to determine which characters would be available at release:

1.  Spyro - DUH!!!

The four other characters who have detailed information about them:

2.  Trigger Happy
3.  Ignitor
4.  Eruptor
5.  Gill Grunt

Characters found on Skylandersgame.com and toyrus.com:

6.  Stealth Elf
7.  Chop Chop
8.  Terrafin
9.  green goblin character
10. feathered dragon character
11. skeleton ghost character

Other Characters shown at the toy fair:

12.  Stump Smash
13.  Prism Break

So that leaves 3 more characters, and my personal nominations are:

14.  griffin character - seen in trailer
15.  crossbowman character - seen in trailer
16.  water troll - otherwise known as "water dragon" - seen in trailer
