Why I think this game is a major FAIL even before released.
Alright, I'm not going to go to an entire rant on why this game isn't in the formula of the original series. As I can, I'm telling based on the trailer here. The screenshots and artwork here. And the demo here.
As stated when the movie was cancelled, Activision was going to a new direction. Lo' and behold they were true. The game starts at $70, and the Collectors Pack at $90. It's been confirmed that there would be 3 figurines in the starter pack, and that there would be up to 28 different, other action-figure 'memory cards'. With each memory card, you put it on this platform portal, and depending on the character that is placed on the portal, you will play it as that character. Now, according to IGN, each character would be of 5% of the game's starter pack. Which would be around $14. Now, here's when it gets expensive. $70 + 29 x $10= $360 + tax = around $400. You need $400 too play the game to it's fullest. Sure, you can beat the game with just Spyro, but at $70, your just getting a fraction of the games compatibility. No matter how good this game is, with Spyro or not, it is not worth $70. To give you a comparison, Call of Duty: Black Op's was $59.96 at its launch. I don't think this title would be as big as a Black Op's release, I know we can all agree on. Due to America's economy and job-cuts, the game will not get a big success. So I don't know why Activision is waving their big e-weiners around saying "Oh! This games going to be so successful! Let's plan what we should do next!" Which they actually are too!
=It's a scam=
According to a USAToday article, the game is headed towards 6 - 12 year olds. This is where it strikes me. Why would people be aiming at such young kids at an expensive game starting at $70? I would love to be a parent of a child who wanted everything out of a $500 game. Wouldn't you? Let me show you a quote:
"If you THINK about buying this game, then you have fallen to the dirtiest marketing stunt around. The game CLEARLY was in development before adding Spyro. None of the environments or creatures shown actually look remotely like Spyro (Classic OR Legend). They are using Spyro as a way to lure in customers. This is a test of the fanbase and you, as a fan, should NOT stand for this treatment."
This is so true in so many ways. The part of adding Spyro in the last minute is a clearly no brainer. All the levels look like they would suite the all the other characters, but Spyro. How else were they to sell this trash if it didn't had a popular mascot that sold 22 million games since 1998? Sure, there's some similarities' from the LOS, but there clearly last minute changes. And be honest to yourself, look at the trailer, and ask yourself:
"Would I still buy this $70 game if it didn't had Spyro?"
Exactly. Plus, they use the ol' "Let's just say we're targeting younger audience, while in reality we're grasping the old fans and buy whatever we make!" It worked for The Legend Series, it's bound to happen on this!" If you actually pay attention to the trailer, seriously, and I mean seriously there are NO other characters from the last games. Even Sparx. You want to know why they don't have Sparx in the trailer? Exactly. Last minute change. So, this is a cry from Activision "We need more money!!" (Ever since they axed Guitar Hero forever since music industries simply weren't interested in the game anymore + they killed 500 people from their jobs.)
Also, watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjFSmkp9v-o
Now look in the background. Now, why wouldn't they put Spyro in the center of the game's own image? *Interesting* You think they would love him so much, that in his own game "Skylanders: SPYRO'S Adventure" wouldn't be [centered] around him? Just shows you how this industry works.
What most likely happened was what happened to Spyro's Kingdom, they cancelled the game all together when it was leaked. When they found out when we posted on the forums at Activision, and started to remove links to websites, they would cancel this money costing game and put it somewhere where it would make us alot of cash to an already developed game. That's how America runs.
The real animations from Spyro's Kingdom is from here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yG7jvn6stZ8 Notice, that the models look similar to that of Dawn of the Dragons models. So this leaves to suggest this was from Spyro's Kingdom. Like I said, they scrapped all of this and made Skylanders instead. Still, not convinced? The images of the 3-D models were not founded too long ago by an employee of the person working on the game.
This "toy-to-game" concept is just a memory card (the figurines) and a memory card reader (the portal) reading and writing at fast paces. This is just a way for Activision to market the equivalent of DLC for children. The game itself is $70, and then the "Adventure" Pack is $90 (don't know what comes with it). If these will be sold individually, then you are buying figurines to complete the game 100% and wasting crap loads of money that parents will not buy into.
=Story isn't going to be good.=
The story line is not going to be good. I just know it. Story plots in games have sickened recently. Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow are going to be the screenwriters for the game. There best known for such movies such as: Cheaper by the Dozen, Garfield, Garfield: Tail of Two Kittens, Evan Almighty, Daddy Day Camp, Walter the Farting Dog! E-NOUGH, SAID.
Sure, they did Toy Story, the only movie that Activision could say what they did without people doing a facepalm. But, that's a different story, they had a lot more writers, so they probably didn't do a whole lot of writing.
That's the end of my rant. Give me your best shot.

Re: Why I think this game is a major FAIL even before released.
Exsacly as I was saying. I could not agree with you more here, i would not be surprised if they turn it into the
"OMG WE HAVE 3 NEW CHARICTORS THAT YOU MUST GET!!!" scam, and eventually it will just be a game with spyro on it.
in fact i would be happy if the reviwers just said "were not doing this game because were not mugs into paying for every charictor"
also people may think "well $90 ain't that bad..." its aimed at 6-12 year olds WHAT PARENT WILL PAY THAT FOR THERE KID!!!! we are in a recetion you know.

You're my hero
Many of the things you explain are assumptions. You read an article, and then you let your imagination wonder into hell. Price, overall design, plots and storylines have yet to be finalized.
And I can't believe you really think they scrapped a Spyro game and threw him into this one. They've been working on this all along. I know where you get your facts, but I'm having trouble figuring out where you get your sanity.
There was a shot, maybe not my best one. Hopefully nothing we can take personal...

Re: Why I think this game is a major FAIL even before released.
From what I understand, each of these "expensive" toys have their own character and story. We wont know for sure until far later in developement, but these separate storylines could be full feature adventures in themselves. To think they they each hold an objective that can be completed in an hour is foolish. If they can add that much adventure and gameplay to each individual character, it would be worth it.

Re: Why I think this game is a major FAIL even before released.
the tech could drop in price by a huge number by release. Right now it's in prototype stage, and as they are, are around $10-15 each. By release, they could be selling 3-packs for that much. I REALLY HOPE IT WON'T BE LIKE DISNEY'S VINYLMATION FIGURINES!

Well this is a Spyro forum after all. As for this game in general I'm not going to waste my time or money on it, I'll just read up on reviews if I get that desperate, but this really isn't what I had in mind but at the same time it's not surprising. When I learned that Activision recently axed the Guitar Hero franchise it hit me that things might not be going so well over there, and they would be in desperate need of some $$$.
Either way this is clearly pointed towards young kids and preteens and so the story will also be geared towards them. Oh, and Toy Story was primarily written by four of the Pixar titans. John Lasseter(Chief Creative Officer of Pixar and Disney Studios), Andrew Stanton(Writer and Director of Finding Nemo and WALL-E), Pete Docter(Writer and Directer of Monsters INC. and UP ), and Joe Ranft(Famous Pixar voice worker and writer). Cohen and Sokolow only worked on the screenplay.

Isn't a point of us buying a Spyro game, is that it's telling the story around him? I'm sure the first three Spyro's, or any for that matter wouldn't be that good. if it wasn't surrounded by him That's like a Harry Potter movie being mainly about Ron Weasley and not Harry himself.

Recretion. Haha.
I'm fine with it being a big expensive sort of thing, after all, it's not something where you have to pay all £350 or whatever it'll cost over here in the civilized world. But them lumping in Spyro was low, and a concept like this doesn't need a cheap lure. It needs lots of well-designed and original characters. I don't mind them using Spyro in a way, but using him as the main character?
It just saddens me that they're not that confident in their product. They feel they need back-up from a veteran, when they are essentially created a new genre. People aren't as brave as they were.

But the majority of the people that would play an Ember game would have played A Hero's Tail, no? To me, that makes it associate with Spyro. It may not be a game with Spyro in it, but it would be a Spyro game.

Portal and Half-Life are in the same timeline, but they are different enough to be considered different series.
If Ember had a game with a story directly connected to the Spyro games, I would consider it a Spyro game. I just hope that won't ever happen.

Still When this is out I'll just wiki or Youtube it's story line if i see no other Spyro characters mentioned
