I've heard this so many times, and I still don't understand the fullness of what people are thinking when they say that. Since when is playing Spyro at all in any game considered bad?

Oh my god, you guys, I just realized! Spyro Year of the Dragon isn't a real SPYRO game because Spyro isn't the main chacracter! It's just a regular GAME with Spyro shoehorned in! MY FAVORITE SERIES IS RUINED!

The majority of people here would no care if it went back to Spyro and Sparx. They are the original. You'd actually have more success claiming that the first one was the only proper Spyro, since in most of the others you spent time as other characters.

However, both logics are flawed. First, you cannot say that a lack of side characters invalidates the main character. Very few characters have that much invested in their side characters, and Spyro certainly isn't one of them (with the possible exception of Sparx).

Second, claiming that time spent as other characters invalidates the main character is equally false. As long as the main character is clear, and gets the most play time, that character is valid. A Hero's Tail is a Spyro game, because Spyro is played the most, and nobody is about to claim that the genocidal penguin was the main character. Except possibly you, just to spite my point.

Now, the reason people, including me, have denounced Skylanders as not Spyro, is simple. Besides the changes, besides the new look, despite the second reboot, he is not the main character. He is part of a line-up. He may get the most publicity, he may get to stamp his name in the subtitle, but he is treated exactly the same as all the other characters (from what we have seen, personally, I think the judgement is reasonable).

Think of it this way. Super Smash Bros Brawl is not a Mario game. It is not a Kirby game. It is not a Zelda game. It is a game which involves them, without making any single one the main character (except maybe Meta-Knight, but only because of his 1337 skills).

It is notable that Spyro is the only established character involved, but that doesn't change things. In the game itself, which is what we're judging, he will be equal game-mechanics-wise.

Now, respond intelligently, or GTFO.

I'm very sorry for wasting your time, but I wasn't actually serious when I said any of this. At the very least I've read your huge comment and agree with you, so I can respect your opinion on the game, unlike Mr. Scribbleavatar who is, in my eyes, a whiny 11 year old.

So yeah, I was just kidding because this is just another "Spyro is ruined" topic. I was actually going to play it up more with stuff like "OMG UR Rite Spyro IZ Ruined! Nooo!" but since you, at least, are taking the discussion seriously, I'll try to act more normal.

Disregarding my previous comments on this subject (which I apologize for), personally I don't really care if Spyro is the one hundred thousand percent main character or not. Skylanders looks like fun, and some of the characters *cough cough* Trigger Happy *cough cough* look actually pretty cool.

So if you are going to dislike the game, that's understandable, just, as you've put it, respond intelligently, or GTFO (which is what I was paradying in the first place).

After reading your latest post, I'm confused about the point you were trying to make with your sarcasm. It sounded like you were mocking me and trying to say Skylanders is a Spyro game, and that Spyro isn't the main character if other playable characters exist. But apparently you agree with what Aceedwin just said.

There wasn't really any point. This is just another topic whining about the game, I'm not even taking it too seriously. And when I said I agreed with Aceedwin I meant they were right and I was wrong. It doesn't help that my sarcastic remarks weren't the best arguements I've ever made. So yeah, sorry, take anything I say in this topic with a grain of salt.

Anyways, allow me to turn this topic back to the original conversation (I feel like I need to say something intelligent now to make up for all this...). You guys are probably right in saying this is just a regular game with Spyro added in. So was Legend of Spyro. The thing is, I don't think this is a bad thing. Just because something is different doesn't automatically make it worse.

Agreed, which is why oout of the 13 Spyro titles for console and handheld, Enter the Dragonfly is NOT my least favorite.

Never played any of the handhelds, so I wouldn't know, but I know that ETD was awful. It was buggy, had a retarded storyline, and rubbish levels. Surely Skylanders couldn't be that bad?

Some fans who think 'Activision ruined Spyro', 'Skylanders will suck' and that 'Spyro is dead' all because of little details, needs to get their priority straight. They haven't played the game, so they didn't judge it to say that the game sucks. All they're doing is jumping to conclusions just like they did with ANB.

Actually I think the comparison was between Enter the Dragonfly and Spyro Orange/Fusion. For Skylanders to be as bad as Dragonfly, it would need to be a rushed, glitchy mess, so I doubt the developers would've been flaunting it at that Toy Fair thing with a giant Spyro statue and such.

Whether it will be Spyro to have the main roll or not, it's still a Spyro game..
It looks like a major spin-off to me too.
But yeah.. it could've been named for example "Crash adventures" and replaces spyro with crash, idk. It just doesn't seem..close to the elements of the Spyro games..

It's still better than "Frodo's Adventure" (aka Legend of Spyro). Also, Crash can't glide, so there's one difference for you. Not to mention the Crash games are less "Medieval Europe" and more "tropical island."
