Petition against Spyro redesign.

Hey, i started this Petition, please sign it, so we can change the future of the Spyro series and Fans, i want to see the games last as long as possible, so please sign it! I'd like to share something that I feel is relevant. But be forewarned, it is a MLP reference.

MLP is split into 4 generations.

The original from the 1980s is G1, the ones that followed were G2, and were hated. G3 was an improvement until G3.5 interupted with ugly-shaped ponies and a horrible cartoon. And now the new G4.

Long time MLP fans (not me) have and understanding that nothing is more worth collecting and owning than the original MLP generation, G1. And while the old MLP cartoons were crap, it still resonated as the best generation the series has ever had.

This is somewhat similar to Spyro.

When G4 was in the process of being developed by hasbro along with the new tv series, "Friendship is Magic," long time fans grew bitter at the shocking difference in the style and art the toys gave. The first releases at toy fairs only yeilded positive reviews from avid collectors and fans. Most of the MLP purists rejected it as 'just another generation.'

People criticized HASBRO for 'ruining' MLP again, as it looked like another generation that didn't meet the prestige that G1 had.

It wasn't until the show finally aired, and the personalities and voice talents were incorporated into the characters that the show finally breathed new life into MLP.

While it is unclear the official stats on the new show as far as ratings and toys sold, it is no doubt the best generation MLP has ever seen.

People have GOT to give this a chance. Most people don't really even know what they're protesting.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You're one of the few folks who actually like the new design, but face it, some people don't like it. And those people do know what they're protesting. How could they not? Many people get angry and say "You haven't even played the game yet, so don't judge it!" This statement is true, but we already know what Spyro is going to look like in the game, so people can judge his appearance.

Skylanders will be released anyways and it's almost nearly finished. Petitions won't stop the game being made all because of a few fans don't like the game all because of Spyro's design...

That and the game is still in beta, meaning, character design is not final! It happened many times before, look at Halo. It was originally supposed to be a third person shooter and the armor looked WAY different.

And added fact that sometimes even though a design may look finalized, they change it.

I think it's worth pointing out that Skylanders Spyro isn't trying to resemble Classic or Legend Spyro. It's clearly meant to be its own unique series based on classic Spyro in the same way Megaman Battle Network is based on classic Megaman. So saying it's ugly because it looks different should really be off the table.

That being said, Spyro's appearance and how ugly it may be is purely a matter of opinion. Obviously if the developers thought it was ugly they wouldn't have used it. And I don't think it's ugly, either, so that's at least 2 people.

Remember, Skylanders is a brand new "Spyro" series, so it probably doesn't want to appeal to old fans outside of shout-outs like the sheep and Spyro's controls and backstory. It's meant to establish new fans, namely little kids (primarily boys, I'm guessing) who are probably sick of having cutesy main characters shoved in their face all the time. Heck, classic Spyro appealed to that, too, what with Spyro being all "I'm gonna kick Gnasty Gnorc's butt!" and having Gnorcs moon you if you flamed their tents.

Of course there's nothing wrong with thinking Spyro is ugly, but unless the developers want to pull all those Spyro toys out of production to manufacture new ones, it's probably too late to change. And regardless, petitions don't do ****.

And they could decide to add Sonic the Hedgehog and tripping mechanics at the last minute, delaying the game to March 9th. (not like that's ever happened before)

Ok, let me try to even things out by this statement:

Activision is doing the job 100 times better than any of us could.

And if anyone says, "No I could. I made a game before," then this thread will be nullified.

It's fine for someone to have an opinion. But the greatest ignorance is to reject something you don't know enough about.

Do you have to know how to cook to know what kind of food you like? Do you have to know how to write a good story to enjoy a novel? Do you have to know how to draw to appreciate art? Do you have to know how to sing or write music to download songs you like? Do you have to know how to single-handedly design, script, program, test, and market a game to know what kinds of games you like?

Of course not. "You couldn't do any better" is completely irrelevant here. It's one of the many canned responses people will use to defend something from legitimate criticism. We are talking about a group of individuals who are hired to make games; of course they are going to do the job better than some random teenager on a purple dragon forum. That is obvious. My ability or lack thereof to create a complete 3D video game has nothing to do with whether or not I can judge the likelihood of my enjoying this one.

And as I've said many times before, we do know quite a lot about this game, enough for many to form an opinion about whether or not we'll like it. You people who are optimistic about the game must think you know enough to have that opinion, so why do you keep insisting that the "haters" need to know more before forming the opposite opinion? Seriously, could someone please explain this to me, because it really doesn't make any sense.

And also, as SpyroGirl101 has already pointed out, we aren't talking about judging the game itself here, but Spyro's appearance. You don't need to know every detail of the game to have an opinion about whether or not he is ugly, so I don't see why there should be any problems at all with this opinion. I see no "ignorance" here.

...That said, I have to agree that this is pretty pointless and will most likely change nothing. It's not up to us to vote on anything about this game; Activision will simply make whatever they think will sell.

That's a good point and I'll admit when I agreed with Riverhippo I was just trying to be vaguely positive sounding. The problem with the internet is that everything gets bloody analyzed to death.

Just bear in mind when I say "Stop whining about Skylanders," I'm directing it towards people like our dear friend cooldude22345, not people who can respond intelligently and politely like you, Stormy. You are perfectly welcome to dislike Skylanders.
