Re: New Kaos Trailer
NO GOLD NO GLORY!!!
I think Trigger Happy has a catch phrase.
Also, I think everybody called Kaos being a human. It was so obvious. (Also kudos to Kaos for being the first human villain in a Spyro game.) He looks like a mix of Ripto and that guy from the Smurfs.

I thought it was a bit cheesy, but eh. I saw a bit bits of humor in there along with seriousness. I hope it works.

It was cheesy, but you know, this is Spyro. There's a certain level of cheese in every game.

Everything was awesome!...except the fact that, like I feared, Kaos is a bumbling villain.

YES! i was basically right on Kaos's appearance, give or take the visual appeal of my prediction vs the real Kaos.
rest of this looks awful though.

Re: New Kaos Trailer
i won't go into that too much, because everything i have to say is really just a matter of opinion or preference.
everything, from the storyline to the graphics to the little gameplay i saw, just seem characteristic of something that i don't think i'd enjoy that much. it looks and feels way too "kiddy" for me. but then again this is coming from a huge fan of The Eternal Night.

Well, it IS kiddy. What elements it takes from the Spyro franchise are from classic Spyro, not Legend of Spyro.

Well since it was a reference from ANB with Cyril's gloat about Water/Ice and the subject of a goblin water dragon was shown i clearly show the reaction of Cyril.
Do i really have to go in detail about every little reference, the other thread when i outed fighting classic and Legend was to how, the enemies were pitted against each other.

Yeah, that part where the gnorcs moon you was WAY too mature for little kids. Classic Spyro should've gotten a freaking T rating.
Seriously, though, I'm afraid I will have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of the situation, Stormy.
-First off, trailers usually come off as cheesier than the actual game/movie/whatever.
-Second off, maybe we all forgot because of the last three games being so "dark and angst-ridden," but classic Spyro was a very lighthearted series. The darkest I think it's ever gotten was the Sorceress' plans for the dragon hatchlings, and even that really never happened outside of dialogue.

Dude, I'm not talking about what it should have been rated. E ratings don't automatically mean "kiddish" in the sense that I was going for. And "dark" does not always mean more mature.
Yeah, there was some immature humor at times in the original games, and yeah, it was pretty lighthearted and playful. If that's what you mean by kiddish then I love kiddish, and I'm definitely not complaining that Skylanders doesn't look "dark" enough.
But with the original Spyro games you don't have to collect toys to play the games. The characters don't run around making grunting sounds like there has to be noise at all times. They didn't have silly names that don't even sound like names like an elf named "Stealth Elf." The story actually somewhat made sense and wasn't just an excuse to make the merchandise make sense. See what I mean? I don't like that stuff. I think it's gimmicky, and, for lack of a better word, kiddish.
I'm with you on trailers making things look more cheesy than they really are, though; I mean, have you ever seen the trailers for the original games?

*sighs* The first paragraph was joking. Hence I followed up by saying "Seriously though." Sorry, I guess I sounded misleading... Anyways, allow me to adress your points with a handy bullet list:
-"Dark doesn't always mean more mature"
I agree with you on that. Like I said, I was joking. (Mooning is still kind of immature and crude, though, but it's not enough to ruin the games.)
-"With the original Spyro games you don't have to collect toys to play the games."
You don't HAVE to collect toys to play Skylanders, you CAN collect toys to play Skylanders. The difference is that the game itself is more expensive (which would be a legitimate reason to not buy Skylanders, but you didn't list that as one so I won't go into it), but you don't have to rush to the store and buy a new toy just to, say, beat level 4.
If you don't want to buy a toy just consider the Portal of Power a flashy way to switch out party members (Spyro, Trigger Happy, or Gill Grunt).
However, toys ARE childish, so I guess calling the gimmik "kiddish" is technically correct. It's just that you're saying it like a bad thing, as in: "This game is kiddish therefore I don't want to play it!"
-"The characters don't run around making grunting sounds like there has to be noise at all times."
I think the sound effects are an improvement. If you don't like them you can turn the volume on your TV down. In the best case scenario there might be a feature in the "options" section of the pause menu to turn off the character grunts.
Man, I sure am glad I responded politely instead of- *coughcoughwheeze*Stormy is a nitpicker*coughcoughwheeze*Lots of video games give characters sound effects you whiner *coughcoughwheeze* Oh darn, nevermind. :-[
-"They didn't have silly names that don't even sound like names like an elf named 'Stealth Elf.'"
*cough*Pokemon*cough* Man, I must really have something in my throat. Sorry about that. Now then, as I was saying, silly names are a legitimate trait of something that is "kiddish." So I guess you got me there. But I feel the need to reiterate what I said before: You're saying it like a bad thing, as in: "This game is kiddish therefore I don't want to play it!"
-"The story actually somewhat made sense and wasn't just an excuse to make the merchandise make sense."
From what I can tell, this will not be a very story heavy game, so perhaps you're right. However, I must ask: How come the story doesn't make sense? It sounds staight foreward to me. Or is "not make sense" a synonym for "I don't like it" now?
Plus it's not like Spyro 1 had much of a story outside of reading the instruction manual, and that wasn't a bad thing.
...
Okay, rant over. By the way, I'm not trying to pick on you, specifically, Stormy. If you don't want to buy the game, that's fine. I'm only responding because your points are VERY common complaints about Skylanders. And I mean intelligent complaints, not "Spyro looks ugly!" and "This game sucks!" like on Youtube.
Heck, keep disliking the game, actually. I enjoy it when people try to express complex opinions that don't sound like Youtube comments.

Re: New Kaos Trailer
Hoo boy. This is going to be fun.
*sighs* The first paragraph was joking. Hence I followed up by saying "Seriously though." Sorry, I guess I sounded misleading... Anyways, allow me to adress your points with a handy bullet list:
...Yes, I caught the sarcasm, thanks. It's just that when someone says something sarcastic, there's usually a point they're trying to get across. No one is sarcastic just for the sake of being sarcastic. I assumed your point was that Spyro has never been T-rated material and thus has always been kiddish. Otherwise why would you have included the rating stuff at all?
You don't HAVE to collect toys to play Skylanders, you CAN collect toys to play Skylanders. The difference is that the game itself is more expensive (which would be a legitimate reason to not buy Skylanders, but you didn't list that as one so I won't go into it), but you don't have to rush to the store and buy a new toy just to, say, beat level 4.
Regardless of whether actual collecting is required, you still have to use the toys that come with the starter pack to play the game. Yes I said "collect" but I figured it would be obvious what I actually meant. And I didn't list the cost of the game because it has nothing to do with what we were talking about with the game being kiddish.
[...] It's just that you're saying it like a bad thing, as in: "This game is kiddish therefore I don't want to play it!"
Like I said before, I like kiddish if it's done in a certain way. Just not this. And actually, I wasn't originally saying "kiddish" as necessarily a bad thing; you're the one who took it that way and made me have to explain what I actually meant by it.
I think the sound effects are an improvement. If you don't like them you can turn the volume on your TV down. In the best case scenario there might be a feature in the "options" section of the pause menu to turn off the character grunts.
Yeah, I can turn down the volume, but that would also lower the music and other things I might actually want to hear.
Man, I sure am glad I responded politely instead of- *coughcoughwheeze*Stormy is a nitpicker*coughcoughwheeze*Lots of video games give characters sound effects you whiner *coughcoughwheeze* Oh darn, nevermind. :-[
Right, I'm nitpicking and a "whiner" because I think some of the sounds the characters make are annoying. And of course every game has annoying sound effects, so I should have no problem with this game's sound effects being annoying. Oh wait, let me guess. That was "sarcasm," so you didn't actually mean anything you just implied.
Pokemon are species. All Pikachu are called Pikachu. All Bulbasaur are called Bulbasaur. From what I can tell, there's one elf named Stealth Elf and one... whatever it is called Trigger Happy. It's their actual name, like Spyro. His species is dragon; his name is Spyro. Stealth Elf's species is elf; the individual elf's name is Stealth Elf. Got it? Also, just a tip for you for future debates: I never said I didn't have a problem with Pokemon names. Even though it turns out I don't, you're making the assumption that I don't, which might have been completely wrong.
And see above (and also my previous post) for the "kiddish = bad" thing. I could have sworn I answered that in my previous post, so I'm not sure why this keeps coming up.
From what I can tell, this will not be a very story heavy game, so perhaps you're right. However, I must ask: How come the story doesn't make sense? It sounds staight foreward to me. Or is "not make sense" a synonym for "I don't like it" now?
Geez, you really like to read things completely literally, don't you? Who's nitpicking again? I should think what I meant was obvious since I already explained it: I find the story silly because it explains that the "toys" are really real creatures that "need our help" to save their world. Obviously just an excuse to make the toy collecting make sense, like I said. Sorry for using the wrong word, I guess.
Plus it's not like Spyro 1 had much of a story outside of reading the instruction manual, and that wasn't a bad thing.
Again, the story that was there wasn't a lame explanation of why you have to buy their toys. And I have no problem minimal stories as long as there are other things I like.
I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm not sure I'm buying this as the tone of your post seems to indicate that you find my arguments to be pretty unintelligent.
And... I try to express complex opinions? Come on, dude, give me more credit than that.

Re: New Kaos Trailer
As far as the grunts and sound effects from characters go, I don't know how it's different than the grunts and "ouch" interjections we have heard in the original trilogy.
I don't want to trigger any stupid argument again, but please clarify. Is it that the specific sounds are annoying and poorly recorded? Or is it that there are cartoony sound effects at all that makes it unpleasant?
