It's all good...

I was reading the Sun the other Friday, and was quite surprised to see that they'd written a review for Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure in the Video Game section.

Unfortunately I don't have the newspaper anymore, but the review was pretty good. They gave the game a 5/5 (I think - if not a 4) praising the fun gameplay and appeal to children.

So to all of the people that were convinced this game was going to be a flop before it was even released... I think we might be onto something here. smile

We still need a solid review from other gaming reviewers, like IGN, when the game comes out. If it turns out to be a successful, then the haters will have a hard time swallowing it down as they had spouting nonsense the game will 'suck' mostly because Spyro looks different and the game not being in their age group ever since it was first revealed.

There's not much comparison.  Only huge Spyro fans know or care about Skylanders.  Duke Nukem is known by any FPS fan that has any sort of general knowledge.  Heck, I'm not even a FPS fan, and I know about it.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/fu … watch.html Thats the link to The Sun website with the review on that Scarlett-Fear-Dragon mentioned. Its very short so Ontels is right in assuming the review is just based on what we have seen so far.

Re: It's all good...

On a side note, IGN said in their ETD review that Spyro's classic formula had to go. They were so harsh...

And to think that Gamespot gave it a lower score.

Re: It's all good...

regardless of your opinions of this game, don't ever go by reviewers. i never turn to reviewers for anything, not even the music reviews on Metal-Archives (unless i'm really curious, like, an album getting a score of 0 out of 100, hehe) because you just don't know where the person's coming from. each person's gonna have their opinion/take on things, and they're all different opinions/takes even though they're all dealing with the same thing, whether it's a video game, CD, book, anything.

a professional can point out every flaw in this game when it's released and make it look like a pile of crap, and it still won't make me any more right as far as i'm concerned. if you want to spend the money and you have high hopes for this, get it yourself and form your own opinions.

just how i see things.
but some advice: just in case, try to be sure that the store you go to gives good refunds. remember, this thing's $70. i don't want to see anyone dissatisfied with something and then have $70 down the drain yet.

Let's not start with this "haters" thing again. We all know you hate when people complain about Spyro's looks; we don't need to hear it a million times. tongue

Despite not personally being interested in playing this, I've never really doubted that it would be somewhat successful, just probably not with the current Spyro fanbase. I expect to see a lot of little kids registering on this forum after the game's release wanting to talk about Skylanders.

I wasn't even complaining about the haters, Stormy... <.< I was just saying that the fans who have said that Skylanders will suck and have ranted on about it will be surprised if the game succeeds. I wasn't even ranting about them or anything.

Just like how Stormy wasn't complaining about you, and was simply joking around about what you said, and that you used the word "haters," a word whose use I agree is getting rather old.

The more I see about this game, the more I think the gameplay looks pretty solid. My only complaint is that the extra merchandise is necessary to buy in order to play as the character you want to play as.

Exactly, I'm just getting sick of the word "haters" and, honestly, seeing you bringing up people who dislike Spyro's new look in a lot of threads. That's all.

and that's why it is always brought up whenever something possitive is added to the game....

but let's not forget that IGN has multiple reviewers and their opninions can change. So one may say somethign and the other may disagree.

That's actually pretty sneaky of them, creating a bunch of cool characters, then releasing trailers showing them off, then making you WANT to buy a toy just for that one cool character you like. (Luckily for me, my favorite character, Trigger Happy, comes with the game.)

I just hope the process of buying the toys isn't too tedious, because if they come to stores in randomized booster packs or something I will be very angry.

I think I'd be more willing to buy the individual toys if a T-shirt came with the toys for a total of $20.

Re: It's all good...

Well, when I say that I'm including the toys that come with the game. $60 is expensive enough for a new game, why make me pay ten bucks more?

Also, what's wrong with having to play the game and accomplish difficult tasks in order to get a new character? I miss those days.

I've got no problems with toys for games, just make them merchandise, nothing more. At the very most make them unlock something trivial, like a hat or something.

You would want to buy something to get a hat? I'll stick with the new character thanks.

Well yeah, because that would make it optional. You wouldn't have to buy a hat, but you do have to buy a character.

You don't have to buy a toy to play the game, you just have to buy a toy to play as a different character. And the most new characters seem to bring to the game are:

1. Different powers and controls, for some replayability.

2. Alternate/Secret paths through levels that unlock extra XP, treasire, and stuff like hats.

I might buy a few of the characters that I like if I have some extra money, but I don't really think getting more than four or five toys is neccesary to enjoy the game (plus it already comes with 3).
