Spyro in space?

spyro_dawn_of_the_dragon_15.jpg

ever since i saw this image, i've had the idea of at least a level taking place in outer space. the closest i think Spyro's ever gotten in any game is a normal level, with a spacey sky, like the one shown above. or Breeze Harbor, or Midnight Mountain...

i'm imagining this being a great way to utilize the idea of free flight. all the different planets and galaxies to explore... you could throw portals in there to get to different parts of space faster, or something.. i'd imagine a scene where gravity comes into play (Jupiter, anyone?) would add an interesting storyline twist... is this sounding interesting to anyone?

also, the physical impossibilities such as breathing in outer space mean nothing to me. Spyro's too good for the laws of physics; look at his wings, how does he fly with them?

Re: Spyro in space?

Meeeeeh I can see were your coming from but aside from the obvious flak it would receive from copying Super Mario Galaxy it also doesn't really appeal much to Spyro's style of fantasy worlds.

Re: Spyro in space?

i've never played Super Mario Galaxy, so that didn't occur to me. actually, i don't know what the gameplay even looks like. i assume it's similar to this.

edit: and hey, they could still be fantasy worlds. i have more than enough ideas to cover that. they don't have to be real places in outer space.

Re: Spyro in space?

This is an interesting idea. If I remember right I imagined something similar many years ago, but it was quite differend.
And yes, physics has not much space in games. Games are made to be enjoyed, not to be real. smile

You never played Super Mario Galaxy?!

But anyway... that's a very interesting image. You'd think with all the space cows, flying sheep saucers and different landscapes in a game like Spyro 3... Space levels would be an inevitability... But apparently not.

I can't remember what were the details, but I knew I imagined that you would be able to fly into sun and that it would kill you... surprisingly big_smile

Re: Spyro in space?

I'm okay with the whole space idea. It can work if done correctly. But I don't
see how he's going to breathe unless he has some kind of breathing
mechanism. Air tank, or he's in a ship, something with air tanks.

Or bottled air, like from Lorax. roll

Well let's just say that the atmosphere stretches extremely far, and the pressure it relatively consistent throughout. Now let's also say that the components of the atmosphere are different higher up, so the light is scattered differently and space doesn't appear blue...

THIS WOULD STILL NOT HELP THE PHYSICAL IMPOSSIBILITIES OF INTERPLANETARY TRAVEL *breathes heavily*

Okay, so there's officially no way we can be consistent with the laws of physics and allow Spyro to go through space... but which do we prefer?

Re: Spyro in space?

Spyro should glide from planet. Where the grass is green. And fly in space. Around the endless black atmospheric oxygen glides ^^

Meeeeeh I can see were your coming from but aside from the obvious flak it would receive from copying Super Mario Galaxy it also doesn't really appeal much to Spyro's style of fantasy worlds.

Nintendo controller copied Atari controller.
Super Mario Galaxy copied Sonic Xtreme.

Just joking tongue

But aslong as it tries to be original. Then it shouldnt matter even if some have already done it. Aslong as they try to make it unique through their own idea.
For Example: Simpsons isnt even that good, yet still people love to have this silly war on which of the 3 main american cartoons they like. hmm. Its like bitterness and trivia just bursts open. Silliness smile

But i wonder what the next spyro installment is. If it comes after Skylanders big_smile
