Do you think, or know that a real new Spyro game will be released anytime?

Hi,

I love Spyro, the classic Games because their gameplay and the newer (The Legend OF Spyro) because the story.
It makes me so sad when I see what they have done to Spyro with this awful Skylanders games.

Do you think, or maybe do you have some information, that a real new Spyro game will be released anytime?

We get this thread a lot around here. Lots of people aren't too happy about the changes to the Spyro franchise.

I have to agree that it's pretty unlikely. Skylanders seems to be much more successful than TLoS series ever was, so why would Activision want to stop making it? Skylanders is not going away any time soon.

As as for the original series, well, games like that are kind of dying out. You don't see too many good platformers anymore.

I guess it's possible that they might one day make some kind of game with Spyro as the main character while continuing to make Skylanders games, but I still doubt it. And even if they did, I doubt they would go back the the Legend or the original formula. It would have to be yet another reboot.

i'm kind of surprised that with the sheer amount of people who don't like the changes, they don't put forth some kind of effort to keep true to the originals. maybe while releasing Skylanders stuff? i don't know and i don't care. but it just seems like there would be profit to be found there. i'd buy a "real" new Spyro game, and so would a lot of other people, so ignoring us doesn't seem to make sense.

If I had to guess, I would say that they probably just don't estimate the number of "real Spyro" fans to be as large or as profitable as anything they're working on now, so they don't see any reason to drop one of their current games and make a Spyro game instead.

Honestly, if you were to judge just based on the internet, Spyro might seem fairly popular, but I don't think that that's really the case. Just based on my experience, I've never noticed anyone in real life talking about the Legend of Spyro or the original games, but I've now seen many kids excitedly talking about Skylanders at game stores. Obviously I don't have any numbers to back up any of this but that would just be my guess, that Skylaners is more mainstream than the niche little Spyro fanbase on the internet.

greed, why spend money on a new reboot when you have a money machine like Skylanders

Well, there's another way to look at that, too. If it's a "money machine," a lot of people must like it, right? So if they stopped making it you'd just have those people upset instead, and that's not really fair either.

I just wish they had never sucked Spyro into the Skylanders world. They could have made the game just as successful without randomly sticking Spyro in it. A lot of the younger kids who play Skylanders don't even know about the original Spyro anyways.

Never going to happen. As much as id just melt like butter and buy it on day 1, Skylanders is activisions new money cow, and they will never go back to classic spyro.

Even though, they VERY WELL could. Skylanders and Spyro are pretty much different franchises. If they made a new "Spyro" title, while making "Skylanders" titles, nobody would really bat an eye. I guarantee that due to Insomniac gone multiconsole, and how they really need a game right now to develop that will succeed: If activision contracted insomniac to develop a new Spyro game, everyone in the fanbase would explode in joy. Although ive hated insomniac for what they did to the fanbase, and my dislike for their newer games, its always been my dream for them to return and make a TRUE spyro year of the dragon sequel.

they pander to what makes them money and what makes them money is skylanders because the majority of fans from the original franchise are at least in their early twenties (like me), kids on the other hand out number us 20 to 1 in most parts of the world and thus they are the ones that are pandered to for this kind of thing. am i happy with it? obviously not, but there is nothing i can do to change this. and no writing angry letters wont work, this is a situation where you need either a vast amount of resources (such as money) and cunning or a massive amount of brute force that can operate on the sly and no one (unless your the child of or head of some kind of mafia) has that kind of power right now that is on our side.

I've given up hope on Original Spyro coming back at all as for LOS Spyro him ether.

I am a Skylanders fan and like Skylanders Spyro. But that's not important now.

Skylanders is a cash cow. No one sees the need for the other Spyro's to come back so I doubt it's happening. Because of the cash cow that is Skylanders. But I am okay with it. I miss Legend and Classic don't get me wrong but Skylanders has been good.

It is what it is. Sigh only way we get ether Spyro is from the old LOS Spyro Games and Classic Spyro Games.

has anyone heard anything recently about that big fan game that was in the works? they had a YouTube channel and some pretty convincing level layouts going, last i heard. it's not an official game, but it's a game.

I actually just heard and saw some videos of that on crash bandicoot (crystal wrath or something like that), had no idea it was happening with spyro to.

is there ever going to be another game in the original or legend style/ No, there are very few platforming games, mario and ratchet and clank are pretty much the only big platformers left. as for LOS, it didnt sell very well, and dotd was a mess anyway so it ended on a bad note. skylanders is basically it on the spyro front.

Spyro outside of skylanders? Most likely not. The most we could hope for is a spin off game of the skylanders series akin to Sonic Generations, where skylanders spyro teams up with classic spyro...or something like that. Even then, we won't get that. Which, IMO, is too bad, since I had an awesome idea for a game like that which linked skylanders, classic and the legends of series all together into one continuity....but my friend who can code games sadly has no love for spyro and I know nobody who can do 3d graphics so making a game like that and offering it to activision is sadly out of the question.

As if Activision would ever even acknowledge any of the existing fanbases for their games.

Agreed, it's pretty unlikely anything not-Skylanders will be released. Even the spinoff thing probably won't happen - honestly, after the original three games Spyro kinda just faded into obscurity, so there'd be no real reason to bring him back in that way.

(As for fan games - plenty of people on this forum have programming skills, and there have been a few attempts at starting fan game projects over the years, but no one's ever actually successfully completed one. tongue )

I doubt that an official 'real' Spyro game will be made any time soon because of the money-making machine Skylanders is.

As for The Legend of Spyro series, its darker setting doesn't seem to really fit the character of Spyro. So, they had to make him look and act more mature, like he'd grown since the first games. This move wasn't necessarily a bad move, but it led Spyro in a different direction.

And, then, later, Spyro was launched into a totally different direction once again. I admit, Skylanders is fun. (Judging from Skylanders: Giants, the only title in the series I've played.) However, it lacks the charm that the first three games had. In other words, the gameplay seems rather dry. By the way, I think that Skylanders Spyro looks like a cross between a small purple dragon, a goblin, and a bulldog.

So, I think that a fan game might be possible. But an official 'real' Spyro game? That probably won't happen for a long time, if ever. Judging by the success of Skylanders, a 'real' Spyro game would be less profitable because many children nowadays only know of Skylanders and are unaware of Spyro's past. If they saw a new 'real' Spyro game, they'd wonder what happened to the Spyro they know from Skylanders.
