Cynder's Game
Hey guys i'm Evilness and i'm the founder of an indie team working on Cynder, the game based on Cynder's life before and during the A New Beginning tLoS saga! We're ten right now and we've been very fast with the work but we need some help...some infos: the game will be splitted into 2 ingame parts: one in which you play as teenager cynder and the other in wich you're adult cynder and you have to defeat the 4 guardians to free malefor...You'll be able to fly when you want (with adult cynder, with teenage cynder we dont know yet) and there will be a special Dark bar that, once full, will let you play (for a short time) as Dark Cynder, with special abilities and powers. We're at a good point with the scripts but we need an hand with modelling, animations and concepts! We've some of them, but we need more! If you can/want to help us, please email me at spirit.info300@gmail.com, or contact me on skype at CynderProject (or just PM me here). If you can't help us doing those things but you want to give us a hand, please write me some ideas, suggestions or let me know what you'd like to see in the game! We'll see what we can do
The work is free for now, and the release will be free unless we obtain the copyright permission. To do so, we're working on a demo we might present to ask for the permission. If it's refused...FanGame!
Please, answer to this topic! I'll let you informed
Some images!

Re: Cynder's Game
Well, this sounds like a pretty neat idea. I would like to give a few ideas for how you could work with A New Beginning Cynder, but I am not sure I have them well organized in my head right now. I would need to give it some time before I go at it again.
I do hope the project goes on, maybe it could possibly become an official game!

Re: Cynder's Game
Hey shade, me too would like to see this game in a GameStop we're working on a PREdemo and, once finished (in 2 weeks i think), i'll do a YT video of it, so everyone interested can see the progress
once done that video, i think we'll make others (one evry week/2 weeks i think) so you'll be always updated! Also, we dont have a website right now, but i think we'll make it very soon! Again, if someone can help us we'll be very thankfull, specially if you are a modellator, a graphic, a concept artist or a level designer!
Thank you all guys, i'll let you informed

Re: Cynder's Game
sorry that i didnt write it previously, i've forgotten that
We're using the Unity Engine, that revealed us to be very usefull
And we'll start to share footages of the game to non-developers once the PREdemo (and the YouTube video) is done!

I have little experience with Unity... (I am more on the Valve HAMMER editor and UDK3 side of making)
But I did take a peek at it once. =p

Re: Cynder's Game
In the team we're currently 9: 3 programmers, a modellator AND graphic, a sound designer, 2 animators and a concept artist...and me. I know a little of programming (especially Js) and i work on some textures, level design, sounds and some simple 3D models
The work has already started, but the team isnt completed! More we are better it is, right?

Re: Cynder's Game
How old are you? I think this project is to ambitious -- I learned this lesson earlier myself. You should start on a smaller project, not a large spyro fan game.

@shade105: we always need more script writers
For the story we already have some ideas, but if you want to help us there're no problems. As i said, we accept ideas and suggestions
@Breacking bad: this isnt my first project. I already worked on other 2 projects but then the founders of 'em gave up D: but we were at a good point in 'em

So you never completed a project. It isn't a walk in the park, and you don't even have a GDD. You should NOT do this project. That's why I'm not working on mine.. It's too ambitious.

Re: Cynder's Game
First: what is a DDT?
second: i dont know what your project is, but you're right. Iit's too ambitius. If you are ALONE. We know it isnt a walk in a park, wrote that in all my italian posts (because im italian), but we're trying and, since now, we're doing good. Also you, Breacking, shou.d give a try to your project. Not alone, maybe, but you should try.
Quick update: in the game there will be 3 types of crystals: red for health, green for magic and dark (quite rare) for fury. You'll be able to raise your fury bar killing enemies, like in DotD. All the gems and crydtals are done, and also their script. Working on some environment parts now. The basic cynders animations are almost done, some days remaining
EDIT: oh yeah, breacking. Saw your project. Dont know...have you started doing some things before stopping it?

My project is 2 years old, when I was 13? years old, like you are today. (Possibly Younger.) Now, a GDD is essential to a game. It stands for a Game Design Document, in which you write down every single detail about the game. To be honest, nobody cares what the crystals count for, or a fury bar. I really doubt you have any content, and you haven't even shown pictures or video. Do you have any programming done, for instance, have you gotten the glide/headbutt mechanics complete? Even though you may have animations complete, how will you possible define the glide mechanics without doing somewhat complex math that isn't taught in seventh grade? It's too ambitious whether you're alone, or with several other seventh graders. You really should do a smaller project, maybe a small flash game, or a small gamemaker game. It's up to you, just don't do this project.

Re: Cynder's Game
Aahm no, im not 13 and not younger. We do have contents, as i already said, ill make a video when the animations will be programmed. I've already done some GM games, but not on spyro (i used to create games with GameMaker, started using it when i was 9) and now i'm bored of that type of games. Maybe this project wont become nothing but we're trying. And...Flapjacks...what?!
PS: didnt know what a GDD is because im italian and i call it another way

First off, you don't program animations. Secondly, GameMaker is a lot different than using a 3D Engine, unless you're as good as our fellow user here, Sheep. If you're trying, you would do a simple 3D project, or even something simple like a 3D Sidescroller. You can't expect to create a game at the age of 13, 14, 15, 16, or 17, that's as large as Spyro was.

Breaking, with programming animations i mean implementing the movements and attack scripts with the animations.

I was being facetious (sort of,) claiming a Spyro fan game would never be made, listed goodbyes, and then quoted game grumps. Comedy is hard when people don't understand you.
Anyway, GameMaker is a good place to start on game design, but not at all for programming. GameMaker has many restrictions due to it being so easy to use, compared to making a game from scratch. However, if anyone is making a fangame, they're an idiot if they're not making it open source. If it's a fangame, you won't be making money on it anyway, so giving away the source code for others to modify and help you finish is definitely the way to go. Wish someone like Hoixsoft would realize that.
