Spyro 1 vs. 2 (Design)

I'm surprised nobody noticed this...

I always thought there was a distinct difference between his 1st design and later designs.

Yeah, for some reason Spyro is permanently angry in the second game. I think they tried to make him look "cooler" I guess? You usually just see his back anyway, so it was an odd choice imo.

I've noticed that. Besides making him look angry all the time, didn't they also give him some extra scales on his back?

I think they also did some re-sizing on parts of his body an got rid of his huge teeth.

Not sure if it's the location but the sequel(including spyro) generally seems brighter.

Re: Spyro 1 vs. 2 (Design)

the first game's spyro was probably designed for him to be a little dragon, mischievous and foolish compared to the elders. his personality is definitely different from those ones in 2 and 3. in the first game, spyro would rather get things done his way than listen to the elders' advice whenever he rescues them. hes spunky and a bit full of himself as to where in 2 and 3 he's more laid back, but still has some of that personality from the first game. i think spyro 2 took place a few years after spyro 1, so maybe they changed his model a little to show it. not to mention his voice is more mature sounding than in the first game, but that could just be the voice actors. i also noticed his spyro 1 model's wing has only one extending bone instead of two like in the 2nd and 3rd game. but this is all just a theory of mine

i've noticed he looks angry in Spyro 2, too. i figure it's because he's mad about not being able to go to Dragon Shores.

and i agree with what Agent9 said above about him being younger in the first one.

I know why they changed his voice at least - They received a few complaints/criticism over how cocky Spyro was in the first game, so he was softened a little.

I've always preferred 'happy' Spyro from the first game, though only by a little.
