Man, why do they always take the coolest ideas out of the final version? Universal needs to learn to slow down their development process so we don't end up with glitches and missing content.

The screenshots are interesting, but I don't think any of these things really would've made the game any better if they were included in the final version. I think the game is perfect the way it is.

Re: screenshots of things that... aren't in the game?
same. i think the game's pretty much fine how it is
i wonder if they would have kept the fountain in Sunny Villa, if you would have been able to swim in it. as it is, even if you manage to get underneath the water in Sunny Villa (i don't remember how i did that), you can't do a swim-in-air glitch because swimming (underwater) doesn't seem to be programmed into the level.

The reason you can't swim in the air could be because of the code not including swimming. but even if the code was working, the game would crash when you do the glitch since the animation for swimming isn't in that level.

Re: screenshots of things that... aren't in the game?
i just noticed in this one there's a second floor in the building which isn't in the final version.
so i guess these are from a beta version of the game. but does anyone know where the images themselves came from? i've never been able to find a source for these images.

Re: screenshots of things that... aren't in the game?
I suspect these are from an early demo of the game, a lot can change throughout the development process.
There's an article that reveals some of the demo features of Ripto's Rage that were either redesigned or removed in the final retail:
http://slidespin.tv/spyro-2-slightly-ru … ts-part-1/
The details here aren't significant, however, so their redesign/removal made no difference that would cause them to be an actual loss.
i wonder if they would have kept the fountain in Sunny Villa, if you would have been able to swim in it. as it is, even if you manage to get underneath the water in Sunny Villa (i don't remember how i did that), you can't do a swim-in-air glitch because swimming (underwater) doesn't seem to be programmed into the level.
Do you mean to speculate that it could have been the access point to an underground water or basement area? Interesting prospect. Although the swimming in the air glitch can't be used in Sunny Villa as the level contains no swimming, one could probably still search for an abandoned concept underneath the level by use of the moon jump hack.
The unreachable island in Midnight Mountain on which the super bonus world portal was originally intended to be located CAN actually be reached by moon jumping.
It appears there might also be an abandoned concept somewhere above Sunny Villa as there are actually two differences in that fountain screen capture. The building, pictured behind Spyro is shown with a second floor that is also not there in the final retail. I wonder what was there, a portal perhaps like the one in Dino Mines (which theoretically was intended to be a mini-boss battle like the wizard in Spooky Swamp since the area is a battle style arena)?
It's so much more exciting to play the games knowing this awesome stuff.
For more secret areas, see here:

UPDATE 12/24/15 12:43am
I've managed to access another abandoned area, a hidden room in Fireworks Factory.
Credit to CrystalFissure whose Video brought the area to my attention and instructed me on how to access it.

Re: screenshots of things that... aren't in the game?
I know this thread is a little old, but thanks for posting this! I've been looking everywhere for early screenshots of the game but I just can't seem to find them. Finding sources would be great because it could help us figure out when in development these screenshots were taken - maybe they're all from the same point in development, maybe they're from different points. Things to note though:
-In the fountain screenshot, the second floor of that building is accessible. In the final game, this building actually contains the skate park portal, so it was probably removed to stop players from gliding from the tower down into the room and skipping half the level. Or maybe the tower wasn't there yet.
-In an early demo of the game, with a little bit of hacking you can access the main area of Sunny Villa. You'll quickly find that the stream which is in the final game is a different shape to how it usually is - there's a huge circular pool in the middle, as if they'd just removed the fountain but left the pool underneath as it is.
-The rhynoc in the screenshot with Sheila is seen in the buzz's dungeon cutscene along with Sergeant Byrd's alternate model. Sergeant Byrd uses this model in the early demo of the game, too.
If I find any more information then I'll let you all know.

Well and the sacrificing a life for the swim in the air glitch isn't always gonna be ideal nor is it that you die when you leave the arena. The only way you can save yourself is to pause and select 'exit area' to leave the world. Knowing this when I did it, I intentionally completed the world first.

Something cool I discovered while looking at demo versions of the game is that originally the "Take it to the bank" egg in Agent 9's part of the level was replaced with an egg called "The Bailey gang's last stand". That name doesn't seem to fit the context of where the former egg was placed, so I'm pretty certain that it was the name that the egg obtained in the arena was going to take on. Funnily enough, the "Leap of faith" egg was also renamed as "Close your eyes and press X twice".

On occasion you'll through the wall as though you've just walked out of a normal portal, instead of being spat out in the middle of nowhere. Perhaps it's an indication of where the portal was originally supposed to be.

I think this might be a good point to share something I've been working on for a long time - I don't remember the link sharing policy on this website but I don't think this is against the rules. For a few months I've been compiling all the Spyro 3 pre-release and prototype information together like a massive nerd, and you can see all the pre-release differences I've found here: https://tcrf.net/Prerelease:Spyro:_Year_of_the_Dragon
Most of them are in the form of screenshots, so there's plenty of things that didn't make it into the final game.
