Ideas for the Spyro license before Skylanders

Toys For Bob founder, Paul Reiche, revealed some ideas that were proposed for the Spyro franchise while The Legend of Spyro was still being developed.

Turns out back in 2007, Toys for Bob began working on ideas for the Spyro license after Vivendi Games merged with Activison. There were different early concepts for Spyro, including a "realistic, gritty" Spyro, a tiny Spyro that ran around the real world on book selves, and an origami Spyro that can take shape. But Activision wanted to do more with the character, so Toys For Bob kept coming up with imaginative ways to use the Spyro license, with toys being the way to do this. One of those ideas included playable little toy dragons that hatched from eggs for users to play with. Eventually, Spyro's Kingdom came into light.

btw, here's a higher-res version of the image you posted - it got scaled down. i don't know why Wikia images always resize themselves sad i've had the same problem.

anyway, this is ... interesting, to say the least!

(edit: added to original post now smile )

Honestly, Tiny Spyro seems like the better thing I would've liked to see at this point.

I am so glad they didn't do a "gritty realistic" spyro. That sounds so dumb.

Well it could've worse?, they could've also gone with the 16+ rated, tough and bloody Spyro game that was also planned.
