This is odd
Has anyone else noticed that in all Insomniac's Spyro games, there was always a, um.. reasonable reason for one of the smallest dragons in the realm to go and save the world?
For instance:
In Spyro the Dragon, Spyro was the only one who didn't get imprisoned in the crystal, so it was up to him to save everyone. (although I would think it would be decent for one of the older dragons to help him out after he rescues them)
In Spyro: GTG/RR, Spyro was the dragon that the professor just so happened to pull out into Avalar, so, once again, it was up to him to beat Ripto.
In Spyro: YotD, Spyro was the only one who could fit down the holes that Bianca and the rhynocs had used to get the dragon eggs. So, only he could go and save them.
In the newer games, the tiny little reasons like that to have Spyro go and save the whole realm are lacking, or at least from what I see. Now, I'm not complaining or anything (I mean, who doesn't want that little, brave, four element breathing dragon to save everyone?), it's just that it's odd for the whole dragon tribe who are all grown up and probably much stronger than him to send him off by himself without a good reason to not help.

Re: This is odd
I do agree that the reasons were better in the older games, but maybe it's because he's already regarded as a hero?
Still though, any other dragon could have probably saved the Dragon Realms in Season of Flame.

Re: This is odd
The only one that wouldn't fit into that catagory is the guardians not helping him in ANB (From what I've seen anyways...) and the guardians may have been powerful when they needed to be, but they also didn't have enough energy left in them to help save the world.
What can I say? I just love video games! But I happily don't let them control my life. Let that be a lesson to you

Re: This is odd
If I remember correctly, the guardians said something about "not having enough energy left."
Wow, I've beaten ANB numerous times, but my mind is just drawing a blank right now..
Anways, I see what you're saying.. And really, I just now realized that, lol. Good eye.

Re: This is odd
Personally, I think they just want to see how far they push Spyro before he snaps.
Ignitus implies that he's just too old (and depressed >D) to be doing this sort of thing and the other Guardians at first needed to be rescued by somebody and were too recently out of captivity to have any strength to fight with. In the end, Ignitus said something about passing the torch onto the younger generation.
In the old Spyro games, it did make sense for the little guy to be saving the world. In ANB it's just funny, really funny, that little Spyro, who didn't even know he was a dragon until recently, has to do everything while the dragons who are five times his size just sit around. See, this is why you shouldn't rely so much on prophecy.
Ignitus: The prophecy says purple dragon. That's you kid!
Spyro: But...I'm too young to die! You're bigger!
Ignitus: Yeah, but I'm not purple. Now go face off against the monster that brought down all four of us Guardians. Try not to die or something. Oh, and get some milk on the way back.

Re: This is odd
Lol Razz I totally agree with you. I would've snapped too if every time I turned around some lazy *bleep* says "Hey, Spyro, that thief just stole my egg and I was in the middle of my nap. Do me a favor and go get it back for me will ya zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz?"
I would've woken his behind up and said "Go do it your dang self, I was out all last night killing off the last of the baddies until the sun came up on ya'll orders, and now you want me to just stop what I was doing to go do your bidding? Uh uh, that ain't gonna fly with this dragon. I's needs my beauty sleep too, fool!" *curls up and sleeps*
Shooot, them people be working Spyro to hard nowadays. They should make a game where he goes on vacation, a looooong vacation, and leaves the world saving up to Hunter, Shiela, Sgt. Byrd and the others while he kicks it back at a resort or something.

You know what's really funny? Spyro has it easier in ANB than he did in the other games! XD That poor kid.

Re: This is odd
The other dragons seem to be lazy not to do the work on their own. As for The plot in Spyro 1, He was between tow dragons taller than him. They may have been in the way of the spell from hitting Spyro.
I don't care how it looks but how it functions

Re: This is odd
Well, I'll try and answer that question too ^^
I think it's mainly because Spyro (aka the purple dragon) is a legend among the dragon kind.
And in war times, such legends can bring hope back to the scarred masses (aka the other dragons).
So allthough he's not very big - the shere belief in his powers from the others, is enough to assure them about him, saving the world all on his own.

That's brilliant. You should write the script for the LOS games.
Of course it's true they are all old farts.
Even though we've all seen Ignitus open up a can of whoop a55 on multiple occasions
I think Vivendi was just too lazy to think of any real reason for a storyline about Spyro.

Re: This is odd
Hee, if I wrote the script for the games, I think my favorite Ignitus fanboy would hunt me down and personally gut me. XD And everyone else in the fandom would come to my house with pitchforks and torches for putting so much Gaul into the story.

*being held in a headlock by her muse, who is aiming an idea brick at her* My muse is crazy! Don't think she can't come up with a way around this, because you can! She'll do it!
Yeah, Gaul is very dead. I've never seen such a firm character death, to be honest. There is no way he could survive being turned to stone and then blasted apart by dark magic. And let's not forget that a mountain fell on the scattered bits that were left. Yeah, he's dead.
BUT! That doesn't mean his spirit couldn't cause trouble, or that he couldn't appear in flashbacks.
