Spryo: The Music~~!
Who agrees with me: Stewart Copeland is the only guy who can compose well enough for the spyro games and Rebecca Kneubuhl cant compete in any way?!?!?!
(the music in "A New Beggining" flat sucks.)
I like pie.

Re: Spryo: The Music~~!
The original Spyro music is something anyone would like to dance to! *Starts dancing to Spyro 1 credit music*
I don't care how it looks but how it functions

GRRRRRRRRR! Josh you had to put between these two didnt you? If you would have given more choices and have like top 2 choices then I wouldn't have any problems...I cant deside so I'll just have to say both but not vote.

Re: Spryo: The Music~~!
I'd have to say that ANB's musib was better beacause we've never really heard a choir of any kind doing a song for a Spyro game. ANB put some new music into the series, and was, in my opinion, the best part of the game. Spiralmouth's members that did the part and the church choir did an exellent job on that front.
What can I say? I just love video games! But I happily don't let them control my life. Let that be a lesson to you

Re: Spryo: The Music~~!
I really liked both composers. They both wrote great music.
But I'm leaning more towards Kneubuhl. She did very well the make the music very moving and it went with the game very well.
Copeland's music was meant to be fun, while Kneubuhl's was meant to be moving and beautiful. I really liked that.
But honestly, I think I can write better music than Kneubuhl.. Which is what I'm trying to do now. I'm simply using her music as an example and something to look up to along with many other composers that I know of.
All I really need now is time.

Re: Spryo: The Music~~!
Gnyah, harsh.
It's really not right to try comparing the music in these two games since the only thing they have in common is that they are instrumental. The original Spyro music is mostly synthesizer and bears Mr. Copeland's wonderful, quirky style. ANB's score is large and orchestral, more like a movie soundtrack. Trying to pick between these two scores is like saying apples are better than oranges.
It all comes down to a matter of taste. Personally, I adore both soundtracks, but for different reasons. I love the big, intricate music of ANB when I want something dramatic. When I want to dance or draw something silly, I put in my Spyro 1 CDs. Like the games, the two musical scores are very different; ANB is serious, old-school Spyro is fun-loving and light.
I love them both and I shan't be choosing between them. */music nerd rant*

Re: Spryo: The Music~~!
I too am not choosing between the pair. Stewart Copeland's work for the series was a strong defining element of the series' original style and I dug it for that purpose - possibly among some of the more differently crafted works on the PS1 selection. I was gutted when he didn't return for A Hero's Tail, but I was welcome with the change for A New Beginning. Razz stated all the reasons for me - one artist incorporates fun and nostalgia, the other operates more on the lines of a movie scoreand when put in the right situation will work well as background music for certain situations. Copeland's work is something I found more of use when doing something lively and upbeat with my artistic endeavours; Kneubuhk andMann's on the other hand seemed to work better with writing certain fanfic scenes (I seem to fit more with the dynamic stuff) and doing college coursework.
So yes, I'm not choosing between the pair, both are fine as they are

Re: Spryo: The Music~~!
I'd have to say Spyro the Dragon because I really love Stewart Copeland's work
A New Beginning had some nice music, but it wasn't anything compared to those playful tunes you heard in the first 3 games

Re: Spryo: The Music~~!
I prefer Rebecca Kneubuhl's music because I like opera-choral music/soundtracks, xp
Music by Stewart Copelands is also nice but I don't like Ripto's Rage and Year of the Dragon much.
(Well, lately there're lot of games that use opera-choral soundtracks)
but, eh... who make music for Spyro A Hero Tails?

Stewart Copeland is the best, for he made the music for the originals, which are better than anything that a rich corporation that makes it for the sole purpose of money can vomit out.

Re: Spryo: The Music~~!
Um...Lone Knight? Just so you know, Spyro was originally optioned by Universal Studios, and money is all they care about. They put a lot of money into the original franchise and they're doing the same now with the same goals: to get a new audience to buy more games and any other merchandise they release that's related so they can make a profit.
Not that I mind, really. More money into the Spyro franchise means more Spyro for all of us. And at least the folks at Krome seem to care about this project (as is evidenced by the detail and time they've been putting into it). You don't hire an orchestra for a project you have no faith in. Also, this is how the free market works, and I have always been fond of a free market. Despite what Hollywood would have us believe, capitalism is in fact a good thing.
Ooo, what videos are you talking about, Ratchet? Do you have a link? I started watching "The Life and Times of Juniper Lee" (which I do not like at all) just because Stewart Copeland did the music.

Re: Spryo: The Music~~!
I have that video, it's quite good. Copeland's music rocks, and is better than the new Spyro music by far. Copeland's style of music defines the Spyro character. The new music is just like any other video game music.

Wow, what a blast from the past. XD I remember seeing this interview years ago, when I first played the original games.
Hee, composing music for Stewart Copeland is easy because it's what he loves to do.

Re: Spryo: The Music~~!
I never thought that was Garageband though, but I applied his techniques into my music attempts anyway (texturing, transposing and the like) so I seem to be understanding of his ways of composition either way.

Spyro ANB had better music, it was very dramatic with the Choir and everything. I really liked it.
