Re: The fight between new and old spyro
TLoS bashers are fighting a losing battle. No amount of whining, bashing, flaming, or crying will change anything.
We arn't fighting any "battle", A guy. Do yourself a favour and stop saying something that isn't like "Theres no use bashing", "Victory for us" or "Originals are gone, face it" because they are pointless and annoying remarks.
This topic is NOT for telling me, fletch, Juice box, or anyone who doesn't have the nerve to like TLOS off, It is for discussing the good and bad points on the originals and TLOS, comparing the differences and telling people what we'd prefer/destroy. If you can not Do what the topic says to do, can you please leave the topic.

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
No amount of whining, bashing, flaming, or crying will change anything.
Who ever said we were attempting to change anything? We are allowed to complain about something if we want to. You make it seem as if you want to see the Original Spyro fans squirm because we've lost something we liked.
Alot of the younger TLOS gamers would have never played the originals. Therefor they are being directly introduced to this imposter known as "TLOS". How can a kid just go on assuming that this is what Spyro has always been? The originals were an artwork if I may say so myself and alot of the younger TLOS gamers don't even know what they are.
Can't you clearly see why alot of people are upset about TLOS? The original Spyro games were some of the greatest PS1 games ever made, and now they have just been replaced with something stupid. It was meant to be a colorful/happy game. But now it has strayed from what it is supposed to be. The least the company could have done was come up with a new character completely for these new games instead of turning Spyro into purple disaster.
Overall, you don't need to be so "sadistic" in a way. Try to empathise for once in your life and quit with all of the "Get over it" stupidity.

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
Not only have the new games declined in charm, wit, atmosphere, and overall fun, they've also all declined in quality when compared to the original Insomniac trilogy.
But don't take my word for it.
Gamerankings.com is a video game review site, but they don't actually review anything. Rather, they take reviews from big sites, and find the average score, and post that.
Here are the average scores for the big Spyro games (handheld-only ones are excluded):
Insomniac Trilogy:
Spyro the Dragon: 86%
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (Gateway to Glimmer): 87%
Spyro: Year of the Dragon: 91%
After-Insomniac Games:
(note: many of the games released after Insomniac are multi-platform, and different versions of the same game would have different scores. I have used the highest-rated version of each game for this)
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly (PS2): 55%
Spyro: A Hero's Tail (PS2): 65%
The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning (Gamecube): 67%
The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night (GBA): 77%
Even the highest-rated non-Insomniac game (Eternal Night for the GBA) is less than the lowest of the originals (Spyro the Dragon).
You may also say "But those are just critics!" True, which is why gamerankings also offers a nifty little thing where the members of the site can vote on the game's quality. Let's take a look at those.
(these votes are all out of 10)
Insomniac Trilogy:
Spyro the Dragon: 7.7
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (Gateway to Glimmer): 8.1
Spyro: Year of the Dragon: 7.9
After-Insomniac Games:
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly (PS2): 5.9
Spyro: A Hero's Tail (PS2): 6.8
The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning (Gamecube): 7.5
The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night: not enough votes on any of the versions yet
Again, we see that the highest of the new series can't compete with the lowest of the old.
As far as critics and even the players themselves are concerned: The original trilogy was the best there was.

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
T.L.o.S saved Spyro. The words from the producers themselves confirmed it. It was being considered for retirement four years ago, then out popped ANB and all of a sudden the series was back to life. And a movie is being made from it.
This whole argument is getting ridiculous. The company and the company alone knows what Spyro is and was meant to be. Insomniac did their bit, they got the world interested in a small purple dragon. Now, the age has come where games with that 'cute 'n' cuddley, bright 'n' happy' look just don't sell as well anymore. Games like T.L.o.S sell better than the Originals, good as they were. Combat and serious atmosphere have nearly always surrounded dragon oriented games, and movies for that matter.
(Yeah, I know TEN didn't get the greatest reviews *I now have a grudge against IGN* but critics have become a great bl**dy bunch of Spyro haters....also known as Halo fanatics...Nothin against Halo, by the way.)
Don't attack me.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions...I just don't want to hear them. (kidding).

no attacking, just a friendly debate.... anyway...
1.How could you still call TLOS Spyro "spyro" as in the same Spyro as he was back in 2004. Rebooting DID boost the sales, but what they had to do (reboot) totally lost what Spyro was in the first place!
2.hmmmmmm, sorry to burst your bubble, but The originals sold more copies than the TLOS games (Spyto 1 and 2 beat TLOS for a start)
3.hmmmm, ever heard of unique? Spyro didn't have to be like every other dragon named tom, *bleep* and Harry. its called originality.
4.yeah i know, they seem to like any game that has Mario or Halo on it, but then Spyro comes, get ready to bash!

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
1. spyro wouldnt have needed saving if it had been put in the hands of people who knew what to do with it
2. theres really no point in bringing a series back from the brink if youre going to change everything about it bar the character in it
eg.1 all future mario games will involve mario running around mushroom kingdom leveling up his stats, earning new and better weapons and uniting forces with powerful allies to finally face bowser in a turn based battle
eg.2 all future sonic games will involve an arena in which you face of against up to 20 opponents, you collect chaos emeralds to power your weapons, last man standing wins
eg.3 all future zelda games will involve travelling across the land, searching far and wide for 150 different creatures you will use to claim victory in the hyrule league
ok, yeah theres a lot of exaggeration there (except i think the mario turn based rpg has been done to some extent) but my point is that game franchises become famous for more than their characters, yes they often have spin-offs (mario kart, various mario sports, shadow the hedgehog) but they are spin-offs, mario didnt stop being a platforming game when it brought out mario kart or whatnot
tLoS didnt save spyro, it put him in a coma (im being optimistic) and replaced him with an imposter. that doesnt mean its not a good game, it means its a different game, i just cant understand why people are so accepting of this change when i know *bleep* well if mario/sonic/zelda did this thered be a massive uproar, i know spyro isnt as big as those titles but it was still a playstation icon (in my eyes at the very least)
i know a lot of people are of the opinion that cutesy wutesy cuddley wuddley games are in the past, i dont think thats true for a second, last i heard, the wii is the best selling console, and the wii is best known (by ignorant people) as the kiddies console, because aparently mature people only play games that are as realistic as possible and involve killing people in as many different ways as possible, the thing is,not everyone has to beat the crap out of things to have fun, there are still plenty of people who have more fun using their mind to solve quirky little problems, and they arent all below the age of 12 (nothing against people under 12)
Hi my name is Michael (AKA fletch) and one of my favourite games is harvest moon, a game where violence is non existant (unless youre chasing wild dogs away from livestock or in the DS version when you go into the mines)

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
yeah, many adults liked the original spyro, some adults found it some of their favourite games. Just because Spyro seemed like a kids game, doesn't mean its only for kids. Mario is alot more kiddy than Spyro with little mushrooms with eyes and cute turtles and every colour of the rainbow etc but MANY adults love mario! (and not just the ones who grew up with him)

bright and happy games don't sell well anymore?
Super Mario Galaxy, Wind Waker, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, Warioware, Okami, and a lot of other games have not only sold well but have done well with critics and audiences alike.
Also, note it's not just TEN that got bad reviews, and it's not just IGN. Even the gamers agree that the new games aren't as good as the Insomniac trilogy.
but seriously, bright and happy can sell fine and does.

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
I'd much rather Spyro just be dead than have TLoS running around. If they just let Spyro die that'd be an honorable death. But they're keeping it "alive" in the same way they kept Terry Schaivo alive. Spyro's still dead, just on permanent life support and all it can do now is sit around like a vegetable.

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
The only things that were bad with Spyro was added after Insomniac left. So it's more like waking up and finding your old dog that you've spent your life with is gone and replaced with a puppy that looks only kind of like him, but will never be as good as the dog he replaced.
Also, if it's so great: why do critics and audiences alike give it such bad reviews compared to the older ones?

Because....
1. They did not consider the plot.
2. They are freaks.
3. They suck at TEN (IGN).
4. They were already disappointed of the original spyro. See? Get rid of original!
