Your History with Spyro

heres a thread for you to tell us where you first found Spyro, when you bought games and what was your reaction to them, when were you the most loyal Spyro fan etc

I was born in october 1994 and i first played Spyro in Early 1999!
Spyro the dragon was the first console game i played (i had played some PC games earlier on my dad's old arcade computer).
Spyro i played a few months after it came out and i got Spyro 3 for christmas in 2000, thats when i was a real spyro fanatic!

I had to wait until 2004 before i first played ETD because my parents wouldn't buy me a PS2, when i finally played it i was very disapointed and then then when i researched i found that the game wasn't made by insomniac and that was the reason, and hence startyed the flame war. (I didn't have a GBA either so i couldn't play the Spyro GBa games, but i think by the time i got a GBA in 2005 for my birthday the Spyro GBA games had got a bad reputation in my head, so i didn't get them until last year when i got them on y emulator and i surprisingly like them (except orange and SSL).

Anyway, i heard about how much Orange sucked too so that turned my off the new spyro games. When AHT and SSL came around i just turned the other cheek, i "knew" that they were hopeless games.
In November 2005 i joined SFA (Spyro fans anonymous) and joined the hundreds of fans that were outraged at Vivendi. But by then i was too hooked on Ratchet and clank so i decided to leave spyro for a while and i joined ratchet and clank forums and such.

In june 2006 i joined Spyroforum because i felt like it. In October 2006, SFA closed and i was very saddened.
ANB was released and i heared terrible things about how it was very different to the originals, Spyro looked weird, the story didn't fit and the gameplay was boring, even though i hadn't played the game, i "knew" it was bad and then started my rants on TLOS in 2007 on this forum.

By mid 2007, My rants gradually turned me back into a original spyro fanatic ( i always was but i tended to not play spyro as much as i did then, or talk about him).
InEarly November 2007 i finally got ANB, i thought it was better than i thought for about a week or so, and then i started to hate it liked i hated it before i bought the game, i finished it. Later that month, TEN wa repleased and i heard about some great dissapointments, when i got the game for christmas in 2007 i was heavily disappointed. I also got AHT with that and was disappointed aswell.

In January 2008 i started Ranting more formally about the TLOS games, and finally got Original Spyro on an emulator and i've been having some great fun doing speedways and such.

In a way, my rants on TLOS have brang me closer to the original Spyro games and i still find them the greatest games of all time.

Re: Your History with Spyro

Well, I first saw Spyro in 2004 on a Playstation 2 magazine. Well, I ignored it.

When I got a (used) cellphone, it got Ripto Quest loaded on it. I was hooked.

Soon, I got the original three for $1 (estimated conversion from PhP55), and it was a bargain. big_smile

Then I lost the original three on my migration mad-dash from Philippines to Canada. :'(

And I started LoS, liked it!

Then I joined here...

Then I got the Original three back on PSP...

And I tried out the GBA games on an Emulator on the PSP as well....

Liking it so far.

Re: Your History with Spyro

- Early in 1999 I got the original Spyro The Dragon. It was incredible.
- In August 2000 I got Spyro 2. Also was outstanding.
- Sometime in 2001 I got Spyro Year of the Dragon. Great again, but I liked 1 and 2 more.
- In 2003 I got Spyro Enter the Dragonfly. It was pretty bad.
- In 2004 I got Spyro A Hero's Tail. A bit better but was not up to standard in my opninion.
- Late in 2006 I got Spyro Season of Ice. It was Okay.
- Early in 2007 I got TLOS A New Beginning. Absolute failure.  :'(
- In the middle of 2007 I got Spyro Shadow Legacy. It was pretty bad as well.
- About 2 days ago I got TLOS The Eternal Night. It was better than ANB but still...I don't like it that much.

Re: Your History with Spyro

Sometime in 2002 i rented Spyro year of the dragon and loved it.
A couple of weeks later i got Spyro the dragon and liked it but not as much as Spyro 3
A little while later i got Spyro 2 and after that i got YOTD.
Sometime in 2003 i got a Season of flame and liked it as well.
For my 8th birthday in 2004 i got ETD and i liked it but not as much as the others.
Later that year i got AHT and i thought it was ok but disappointing.
In that same year i got orange and i didnt like it very much.

AHT and Orange put me off the Spyro games for a while. I got back into them in 2006 and then i didnt play Spyro at all last year.

I played the origanals a fair bit early this year and then i joined here. In April i got ANB and i thought it was fantastic. I was probaly my most loyal to Spyro in 2002-2004. Now im just as loyal as i was back then i think.

Re: Your History with Spyro

Mm, started when the game first came out. It ended up being around my 7th b-day I think. Ended up getting Spyro The Dragon and a few other games I don't really remember along with a PS1.
Spyro The Dragon was the first game I tried. Fell in love with it instantly.
I ended up hearing about Ripto's Rage and Year of the Dragon many years later, but never bothered getting them. After some time, many of my games disappeared including Spyro. I think my mom might have gotten rid of most of them.
Many many many years later, not long before I joined this forum, Spyro popped into my mind. I was curious and decided to do a little research on him to see if there were still games being made of him.
And that's when I discovered the many games that I missed. So I got back into the groove by hitting up ebay and buying AHT and ANB. Not long after, I ended up joining this forum. :-P

Yup. That's about it.

Re: Your History with Spyro

I got all the games at the time they came out!

I got a demo of Spyro 1 somewhere that only had the first few levels and I liked it so had my mom buy me the first game in its full glory on my birthday!

I saw Ripto's Rage the next year and I liked that a whole lot more!  I lost the disk for a long time but then found it under a stereo in my room!

I saw Year of the Dragon in a video game store!  My friend was with me and told me it was about when Spyro faced his worst enemies or something, my friend lied I guess!  The cover weireded me out as a kid!

I won't go into the games after that but I got those when they came out too!

Two birthdays ago (2006) I got the Spyro collector's edition off of ebay!  I like it a lot but the Spyro 1 disk is messed up and I need to get it cleaned.

Re: Your History with Spyro

I can't remember the year I first played Spyro...I was born in 1994 and played YotD a few years later. And loved it. Then I played the first two, then ETD, then when it came out, AHT.
In 2006 I played ANB, and went psycho over it (it hasn't gone down a bit wink).
2007 I played TEN with much the same reaction...and here I am big_smile.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions...I just don't want to hear them. (kidding).

Re: Your History with Spyro

When I got a PS1, Spyro was my very first PS game and the very first PS game I ever played! I loved it! I was about 5. Then in 2000, I told my grandma I wanted Riptos Rage. So we went out ot Toys R us and she got it for me! My grandparents spoil me wink  smile! I loved it to! I never beat the first one but I just did a couple days ago. I'm working on the second one. I never got Year of the Dragon for PS1. Or the first one for PS2, Enter The Dragon Fly, but I had a PS2. I had a GBA SP. I got Spyro Season of Ice for Christmas and was the happiest being on the Planet! Then I got Season of Flame. Then I got Heros Tail. I liked it! I got to the third realm but then my friend who was a total n00b deleted my data! I thought I was gonna lose it. I rented A new beginning."What the heck?!" Thts what I said when I saw the cover. "What did they do to him?! Why did they start a new story?!" But when I learned about the combat, I was, like, "HOLY CRAP!!! THIS IS AWESOME!!!" The story was pretty good. His look wasn't that great. I never got Eternal Night but I knew It was Just as good. I'll get it soon to catch up on the story. And now here comes Dawn of the Dragon! I'm buying it for PS3! And the movie is coming! Blu-Ray folks! All the way! smile

Re: Your History with Spyro

I played Spyro first time in day care at 1998 when they got it. I loved playing even that we didn't go far from the beginning. But, I forgot Spyro at the end of the next year. In 2002 we were visiting my parents friends, there I saw their son playing YotD. I tried it and I got hooked! And in next christmas soon after that visit, we got our PS2. Then we started to find our favorite childhood games. Finally I found YotD. I loved playing it, but after I finished it I weren't anymore that hooked. Years went by and finally in summer 2007 I borrowed A New Beginning from my friend. When I saw the intro of the game my first thought was "OMG! This is gonna be great!". So I played it almost everyday and finished it 10 times before I returned it. Soon after I returned it to my friend I watched the site and I were facinated. There just read that the story will continue. Couple weeks later there was first information about The Eternal Night. Then I started to wait until it will be published. When it came to shops, I bought it right away. I were just amazed about the graphics, story and gameplay. I played it over 2 months. In that time I found Spyro music videos on YouTube and I wanted to start make my own ones so I asked from xoxAnnaBananaxox on YouTube that where I can get clips and she said spyroforum. That way I found my way here. And now I'm waiting for the movie and 3rd episode of TLoS.

Re: Your History with Spyro

O_O
um...

well, When I first got a PS1 I had no games to play at first, and I remember seeing on the back of the box the Spyro the dragon game...I wanted it so bad but I never got it. (I think I ended up playing Medievil, the one with Daniel Fortesque, a skeleton guy saving blablablabla) so...eventually, I got Spyro 2 ( and I still play it to this day) and all I played was that game for a very long time...ignoring spyro 3...until enter the dragonfly came out so I rented it and regret ever playing it. >_<
TTHHHEEEENNNN....when I moved down to Florida I got Spyro season of ice...which is now lost...
and um...I plan on getting some new spyro games to catch up with everyone else and...spyro. I didnt like the new "change" so I waited a little until there were some spyro games that might catch my interest...and right now its Eternal night for the GBA and dawn of the dragon. (after all, free flight? I've always wanted that) XD

I'm terrible with years...so this is the best I've got.

Re: Your History with Spyro

I forgot when the first Spyro game came out, but it was about 1 year after i got my Ps1. i Used to be a NES finatic considering thats all i had for 7, 8 years...I played stuff like Wizardry (With my dad helping him navigate threw the labyrenth...i can still remember almost the whole layout of the first and second floors) Tiger Helli, Legend of Zelda, The Legend of Link, Duck Tales, Alot of games like those.

When i got Spyro i played it and got frustrated with trying to find all the Gems and Dragons...ofcoarse i was little and hated puzzels like that, so i quite it and started up on Computer games...My sister how ever played Spyro on and on and on, but she never found all the gems or dragons either nor the orbs for riptos rage, or eggs from year of the dragon.

2, or 1 1/2 years ago i think when A New Begining came out for the Ps2, i honestly still didnt like playing spyro games because i thought it was all about finding gems, but still wanted to play it. I poped it in on X-mas day and played. Spyros appearance scared me at first, but i grew attached to it. My sister got *bleep*ed i was playing "Her" game witch is now mine because i offered a trade with a game she likes...*Cough* Kingdom Hearts *Cough* And well i grew attached to Spyro very very quickly. I started playing the older games and had no trouble finding all the dragons or gems or orbs...still am haveing trouble with the eggs and gems....would help more if my sister hadnt lost my memory card...But still i started playing more and more Spyro games and thats were i got to this point now. Also since Spyro is a dragon and im a dragon loveing freak that prolly needs to be locked away for the love of dragons, i also wanted to play spyro back then when i grew attached. So The Legend series kinda brought me back....ANOTHER good thing goes to the Legend of Spyro Series XD.
