Re: Spyro 3d Model(need your help)

I'm making a model too. Except it's based on the original 3 games.

137__1.jpg

I've been working on that in the last hour or so. First model I've ever made too! I'm so proud. big_smile

EDIT: I've added the Head Scales.

Re: Spyro 3d Model(need your help)

Awesome model! Though his front legs looks like they need fattening up, he's on the skinny side. XD

137_SpyroHead3_1.jpg

This is the latest edition to the model. The head is still unfinished cause I'm trying to figure out how to work the eyes. I had an idea like yours to draw holes in then put actual eyeballs in, but I quickly scrapped that in favor of another method. Though how to go about that is still in the works. ^^;

One thing you can do is texture the eyes to look like they're there, or you can make a small circle, cut off a bit (i know this is possible, for i have Maya) then reshape it! There are other ways though, but i'm not going to go into lengthy desriptions..... or you could just make the eye from scrath which would take much longer and is much harder but at least you always get the shape you want. Hope i could help! tongue wink

Re: Spyro 3d Model(need your help)

yeah you can just do that with the eyes, but insomniac only added a plane
and textured it, they did it because it was a in-game model,
so it had to be low poly,
but for the "posing" model, they gave him claws actual eye-holes e.t.c
the eye holes make it look cooler, in my opinion
though its your choice

btw what program are you using to make your spyro?
I used Blender 3d

I use Maya, but i haven't made a spyro, and am not willing to try. IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME! As I am not very good at using the program... sad

Re: Spyro 3d Model(need your help)

Hey Sazex!

I have to say the flat lit model there looks, to me, by far the coolest.

I can picture that model now with a cell shaded look (think something like Naruto or stuff out of the Simpsons Movie). If only I could get a copy of the model in a .3DS format I could give you an idea.  I'll go see what I can get and see if I can get you a sample image.

Nice work guys. Keep up the great work!

Re: Spyro 3d Model(need your help)

Tried to do the body and legs, but something went wrong and the program keeps rendering his back legs as sticks.

By the way, I'm using Blender too.

That's what it looks like. I'm trying to figure out how to use Print Screen to save a pic of the program when it's not rendered. I may post more pics later.

Re: Spyro 3d Model(need your help)

ok before i try to help,
i need to ask
are you using the mirror modifier and the subsurf modifier?
And Are you extruding your models?
your dragon's body looks great but i think you should combine the
first leg and the body if you know how

and for the second leg lol, im not sure how you got there lol
which mode do you use the most?

The Face select mode

The vertex Select mode

or the edge select mode?

one possible way to fix your problem could be
using the scale manipulator tool
to fatten up the ends of your leg

or you can select the leg and press w to add more pollies to make
it more thick but that may mess it up a bit

can i see how it looks when you edit it?

you don't have to use the prt screen thing,
to see the blender viewport all you have to do is go to
file--> screenshot all

or simply
ctrl+shift+F3

that should take a picture of the whole thing not just the rendered
image

to be honest i never learned this tool until recently
till' then i have been using the prt sc thing

Re: Spyro 3d Model(need your help)

To answer your questions: I did it all in sculpt mode using multiple objects.
Yes I do believe I used subsurf, mirror no.

I would extrude them but I suck at it, hence why I'm only using Sculpt Mode.

No I do not know how to combine the pieces, but any help is greatly appreciated.

And thanks for the screenshot tip.

Re: Spyro 3d Model(need your help)

Make an object, go into sculpt mode, press ctrl n I think to make the sculpt box come up.

I can't tell you anything else other than that

Just wing it.
