Possilbly crack pot theory, but backed up

At the end of TEN, Spyro traps himself, Cynder, and Sparx in some form of gem or such to save their lives, and I noticed in the DotD pics, there's nothing that could measure Sypro's Dragon Time ability. Mechanic wise it'd make sense (since I doubt Cynder can weild time), but there may also be a plot reason.

Basically, the only ability Gaul's staff didn't rip out when he blasted Spyro with it at the beggining of their boss fight at The Mountain of Malefor was Dragon time.

So here's the theory, to save their lives, Spyro taped so deep into his Dragon Time ability he destroyed his ability to use it in the future, but it also trapped Spyro and Cynder in time, which may also explain why they aged a bit dispite being in suspended animation.

So go ahead, you can say its as cracked up as what's left of Gaul (got blown down to dust), or give your oppinion.

Re: Possilbly crack pot theory, but backed up

I agree; it sounds very reasonable. smile I'm guessing Spyro will have to re-learn everything again, and it makes sense that time would be the last of his powers to return, if it does at all (meaning not in this game). Like you said, it wouldn't work so well as a feature in a two-player game.

If they explain it at all, I suspect it will be this or something similar. They might forget to mention it, though, leaving answers to the realm of fanon. tongue

Then back it up. How is it "pwned?"

Theory most definitely not pwned. I think you misread the original post. Otherwise, I have no idea what you're talking about.

The theory is that Spyro used his power over time to freeze them in crystal for three years, and this incredible feat drained his power. Explain how this doesn't work.

Re: Possilbly crack pot theory, but backed up

In the game, spyro was only able to control time briefly, therefore I think that even though he did create the crystal, that another power is sustaining it, namely the Chronicler's, until such time as needed.

Doesn't everyone age when a second passes? :\

I would think not if they're frozen in time. I think the point is that the magic kept them alive (because if they were aging in there they'd probably have died in there without the help of magic) and in good health as they grew,  despite being suspended for three years.

Anyway, the whole theory doesn't hinge on the aging part. That was just a possibility.

Re: Possilbly crack pot theory, but backed up

Hold on, I just read something that one of the creators said..

Dragon Time will not be one of Spyro's abilites in DotD.  The Chronicler taught this ability to Spyro for the sole purpose of allowing him to survive the collapse of Mount Malefor.  In his most desperate moment, Spyro realized why he had been taught this ability and why he had been summoned - to ride out the storm that was coming.

Your theory is pretty close ^^

Re: Possilbly crack pot theory, but backed up

Yeah that's quite believable. Not crackpot at all.

They used a simialr plot method to make spyro lose his powers between games, as I recall - he basically wore all of his powers out.

Just to complicate your theory a little more... remember the final stage against Cynder in New Beginning? I don't suppose it's possible that the strange time shifts and the weird dragon heads we saw flying around there were in fact, the first manifestations of dragontime? or were they some kind of extended power RELATED to dragontime, and to the REST of spyro's elemental powers? I've heard it said that one theory is that the crystal spyro used to enshroud them at the end of TEN was created using the combinaed power of all five of his unique abilities... Maybe he lost EVERYTHING all over again. Dragontime included?

Re: Possilbly crack pot theory, but backed up

After giving it some thought, I thoink that this is a pluasuiible explanation: Spyro used up so much of his dragon time power in creating that cyrstal that he lost the power to control time. he also used up his other powers as well. I wonder though if Cynder will have to learn her abilities like Spyro does n? I'll wager yes.

I'm not sure, but I think I was dropped as a child. XD

It seems kind of a shame to me, that we probably won't be able to use dragontime in DotD. For what it was worth, I did rather enjoy utilising it now and aagain, and it made some fights easier. On the other hand, we're getitng an entire new playable character with four new uniquer powers to make up for it big_smile I can't complain about that.
