Un-used Monsters in Ripto

Okay, I recently beat Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, and realized that I never found all of the Skill Points. I had many times with Year of the Dragon, but not this one. What sort of post-game pictures would I see?

I did so, and unlocked something quite interesting.

It is a book where you can cycle through some comical pictures. Then, it goes to a section show a traveler's guide pamphlet with Basil the Explorer (Mystic Marsh). It's called something like Basil the Explorer's Extinct Beasts of Avalar. In it are a ton of pictures of monsters in Latin names. They are on the backgrounds of certain levels, and have wings and halos around their heads (to symbolize they are dead). I realized that there's a good chance that these were models or monsters that never made it into the final game (this is done if they don't like how they end up, can't find a place for them, etc). They look quite interesting, and I can only wonder where they would have ended up in the game.

Any thoughts?

Re: Un-used Monsters in Ripto

Yeah, I believe it was something along the lines of:

Ripto and Gnasty Gnorc meet on a sumit to discuss the "Spyro Problem".

Lol, I love how discreet they try to be when they say (ahem) "Spyro Problem".

I have a thought but this is not true at all. I saw this on a unofficial site.

The Autumn Plains Castle was built by the vast council of Fauns and Satyrs in the year 5500bc, the first of the Avalarian Kingdoms. The council met in the large chamber where Spyro fought Gulp. Ripto removed the seats and replaced them with a lava filled moat.
Autumn Plains was ruled by the counsel of Fauns and Satyrs for a thousand years and rarely saw war. They remained neutral during many of the wars between Bryan and Brenda. They sent advice to both rulers on many occasions but it was mostly ignored and often the messenger was killed.

When the great evil threatened Avalar the Fauns and Satyrs at first decided to remain neutral but when they saw that Bryan and Brenda were brought together by this they sent 300 Elorian class Ships to the aid of their fellow Avalarian Rulers.

After the great war where Bryan and Brenda fought together against the ancient evil they needed to resolve there differences before they could become truly united. So they consulted the counsel at Autumn Plains.

When the three kingdoms united the council of Fauns and Satyrs became the council of Avalar and had members from every realm of Avalar on it. When Ripto invaded many of the people started fighting with eachother again and the council was dissolved

I was thinking that some of those monsters could have helped Bryan and some with Brenda(Both names can be seen in Spyro 2 of you look closely on the castle walls in Summer Forest and Winter Tundra.)in their great war.

So?  :-X

I don't know if Insomniac would have gone through all that trouble when it was clearly not needed, but sounds cool all the same!

Well, oftentimes there are a ton of excess monsters that don't make the final cut of a game. This is mainly because a more advanced version or different monster all-together was created to replace it, the monster was only made for testing purposes, toward the end of production the designers decide that the monster shouldn't be in a certain location, or there was an issue with the monster that wasn't corrected, so they just scrapped it.

This was very interesting, and I would have liked to see these monsters in game. But as I said above, some of the monsters were completely random and I couldn't see any map that would fit them. An example could be a dog that is inside a garbage can. Random? Yes, yes indeed.

I`ve read that too. Are King Bryan, the Satyr & Faun council and all that jazz canon? Because I was considering using some of it for story material for my Elements of Kaos idea, and I`m just wondering if Insomniac or VU confirmed that at some point, or if it`s just a backstory cooked up by a fan or fans.

Re: Un-used Monsters in Ripto

Better question: How did

Hidden text

Captain Qwark survive a crash landing from space in Ratchet & Clank?

To answer seriously, perhaps his kind are more resistant to extreme heat like that found in lava.

Also, about the Bryan and Brenda discussion, I`ve found interesting screenshots of those two names within the games themselves, indicating that there must be at least some legitimacy behind that whole story. Here is the proof:

Bryan...
...and Brenda. (read this one vertically)

Re: Un-used Monsters in Ripto

Well, looks like you found out that both Bryan and Brenda's names appear in Spyro 2 on the walls. Also both names can be seen Spyro 3 as well. big_smile

Re: Un-used Monsters in Ripto

Ah, so there`s not necessarily a King Bryan and Queen Brenda, but merely a mention of the graphic designer`s kids. Still, it would be interesting to think about who might`ve been ruling Avalar before Ripto came strutting along. I know I could certainly use the Faun and Satyr council idea...

Re: Un-used Monsters in Ripto

Well, that`s assuming I can ever convince VU (and by extension Sierra Entertainment) to ride with such an idea, which won`t be happening for years anyway even if I can. I`m mainly writing it just for fun.
