Re: A new Spyro game story design
This is the Story Design for Syndi, a continuing of the story with some twists. It is told differently depending on who you play as. You'll start out as Colas, a human character, instead of Spyro when you start a new game.
EDIT: I got to admit this needs some work. The drama isn't done very well.
Concept/Idea: Take it as a fact that the Dragon Worlds were somewhere out there. What if a human gets there and finds a strange item inside a meteorite? Of course the dragons will fed up about it. They would tease the human about knight in shining armor and something similar to that. They haven't seen humans since the war they had with them during the medieval times. They used to be with humans but couldn't breath fire at the time. (evolution would explain it) But since one accidentally killed a human by burning him... war broke out against their kind. If Spyro gets crystallized, Where does he go? Does someone get him out of that mess? The dragons were forced to retreat due to being less of them than human beings. One of them used magic to open a gate to another world and left the staff that opened it. (not the green one) Most of the dragons used that gate to get to where they are now.
(The story unfolds from three different characters, each with their own perspective.)
Main Character: Colas
Scene: Aftermath
Setting: USA Altlantis crash site, grass plains; T-storm.
Time: Afternoon
[Topside view of wreck of USA Altlantis]
[Pan & zoom over main piece for 12 sec. then cut to another hull piece Colas is trapped in]
[Zoom in; no activity from outside the piece.]
[Stop Zoom; a loud bang is heard and a dent appears on the piece]
[Hold positon; four more bangs occur before the hull splinters revealing Colas thrusting a canister through the gap]
[Cut to: Inside small hull, behind Colas, hold; he jumps out of the wreckage; follow]
Colas: This can't be happening. *falls to the ground, sobbing softly* Yet, here I am. Who would say that this was possible? I lost my entire family to two men, the FBI sends me on an assignment giving no care to what I've been through, and now this. Why? I didn't even know how to fight. I just got lucky by disarming a gunman. What else could I do? Now I'm stuck on a planet in who knows where in the galaxy and I can't get back. *wipes his tears then sits up* It doesn't matter now. I have no home to go back to. *looks at the wreckage* I don't think it's very likely that there are any survivors. I have nothing better to do so I might as well look.
*gameplay begins*
Dialogue
Trigger: Close to enterence to the shuttle interior
[leftover derbies from the collision with the astroid start hitting the ground]
Colas: Another problem? Perfect.
[derbies amount increases; the entrence is sealed off by a collapsing piece of the hull]
Colas: I'm in no condition to be standing out in the open. I best get inside...somehow.
Trigger: Inside Shuttle
Colas: Hopefully the hull can withstand the impacts from the meteor shower. *pause* It's too dark in here. I need a light. But where to find one?
Hint:
1)Colas: I'm looking for something bright...
2)Colas: ...Something that illumiates...
3)Colas: ...Something small and portable...
(After "Find a light source (False)")
4)Colas: ...Something that might work.
Trigger: Find a light source (False)
Colas: This might work for the time being.
*turns on light, it flickers and then fades*
Colas: *groans in frustration* I had to find one that doesn't works.
*tosses it to the floor*
Trigger: Find a light source (True)
Colas: Please... work for me.
*turns on flashlight, flickers*
Colas: Oh, come on!
*hits the flashlight, flickering stops*
Colas: *sighs in relief* (whisper) Yes!
Trigger: Waypoint 1
Colas: Hello? *pauses for a reply* Is there anyone here? Anyone? I hope I'm not the only one alive.
Trigger: Enter flooded area
Colas: Ahh, great.... I can't swim.
Hint:
1)Colas: I could always wade through the shallow water.
2)Colas: Did I mention that I wasn't a good swimmer?
Trigger: Waypoint 2
Colas: Am I the only one left? That can't be. I better look back outside again. It seems the meteors have stop falling.
Trigger: Facing metorite with a green-glowing crack
Colas: What is that?
Trigger: Approch glowing metorite
Colas: Maybe I should check it out.
Cutscene Trigger: Close to glowing metorite
[looking up from metorite, Colas comes into view; picks up the object]
Colas: Let's see if I can get this thing open.
[strains to break apart the shell but it's too strong]
Colas: Agh! It... won't... budge! I'll need to pry it open somehow.
[view angled so Colas and shuttle are both view; Colas looks behind him and sees a sharp splinter on the shuttle he could use]
[Close up on splinter; he jams the metorite onto the splinter and pushes down with both hands]
[switch back & forth between views: Close up of Colas's face/Close up on metorite; metorite finnaly breaks apart revealing an silver cylinder falling out. Drops remains of metorite and is about to pick up the object]
Colas: I'm not sure if I should be messing with this...
[graps cylinder. Cut to Colas's eye, opened wide; overlay effect: visions]
[view visions: rapid flashes appear right before him]
Colas: What the--?!
[dragons flash in view]
Colas: Are-- Are those--
[sees himself talking to them]
Colas: I'm... talking to them.
[strange language is now audible]
Colas: But how? I can't even recognize their words. Is this--
[now sees himself mostly talking to spyro]
Colas: I seem to be mostly talking to the small one. He doesn't seem... happy with me. I still don't understand--
[script writings start to appear, rapidly changing]
Colas: Huh? Wait! I can't memorize all this! Stop!
[sees himself being pinned to the ground]
Colas: What did I do? What do they want from me?
[final flash reveals him being treated more respectivly and is being given a home to live in]
Colas: They are... letting me stay? But they were-- they-- I don't understand. I don't understand any of this.
[Flashes end, Colas falls on his back, dazed]
[Fade to white]
[Fade from white: looking at strange cylinder. Colas's face reflects in the green center of it]
Colas: *groans* ...What just happened?
[Grabs the object]
[Cut to: Colas getting up, holding cylinder, looking at it]
Colas: Those visions... What did they mean? *pause* It doesn't appear to be a normal piece of material that I know of.
[Fiddles with it in his hand]
Colas: I guess that the green thing is a button.
[Presses on the center, two poles extend on each side, the blades on each end unfold themselves]
Colas: Woah! I was right.
[Takes a couple of swings with it]
Colas: Maybe I better pratice with it. Who knows what kind of creatures I'll have to fend off on this planet.
*gameplay resumes*
Dialogue
Trigger: Player executes combo sequence 1
Colas: Huh. I don't remember learning this move.
Trigger: Player executes combo sequence 3
Colas: I don't know how I know to do this but it feels so awsome!
Cutscene Trigger: Reach end of combo sequence 4
Colas: Ok, enough fun.
[closes weapon; looks down at it]
Colas: Hmph. Thoses visions may have also triggered some kind of communition. There doesn't seem to be any other way I can learn to do such acrobatic moves so quickly. Very strange alien technology this is.
[puts the cylinder into pocket]
[a large figure lands behind him; it speaks in a alien lanuage that Colas doesn't recongize; colas turns around when he hears the creature speak, falls down in fear and shock]
Colas: Stay away! Stay away you... thing! *scurries backwards*
?:
Colas: Just stay back! I'm warning you...
?:
[quick flash occurs of script writings; vanishes]
Colas: I... don't understand.
?:
Colas: Do you speak English?
?:
[quick flash again; fully displayed for 5 sec. then vanishes]
(Translation from Sitiri to English occurs from this point)
?: Cnyundemew?
Colas: ...I can make out something of what your saying.
?: Good.
Colas: Ghaa! You do speak English!
?: I do not know how to speak it but I can understand it.
Colas: But... Never mind. Just don't hurt me.
?: I'm not going to hurt you! I already told you that.
Colas: Oh good. I'm in no mood to have anymore trouble. Hold on... You said that you know what this thing is?
[pulls the Syndi staff out of his pocket]
?: Yes, I buried it here. It's hard for me how it works but I learn quite a few things from it.
Colas: I somehow learned some things by touching it. How does it communitcate so quickly?
?: I had a hard time figuring it out. It seems to uses images to communicate.
Colas: Ok... that doesn't explain the ones that I saw like me getting beaten up by your buddies.
?: Buddies?
Colas: Don't play with me. I was right here when they showed up. I assume that Syndi here can see the future as well.
?: Only that of which is unaviodable. When does the event happen?
Colas: I'm not sure. *pauses, looks away* Sorry, I just feel so wierd talking to you.
?: It's been a very long time for any human that has come in contact with us dragons. *notices something in the sky* If you excuse me, I must leave. Thoses elders you speak of arern't my "buddies". You best aviod them if you can.
['?' Takes off; Colas tries to catch up]
Colas: Wait! ...Can you tell me what this is all about?
?: Don't worry! We will cross paths again! You take care of yourself!
[walks back and leans back against the hull again]
Colas: [mumbles] This is getting more confusing by the moment. Dragons...here?
[Notices a small cloud-like shape in the sky, looks closer and notices it's the others '?' was talking about]
Colas: Oh great. *bangs his head on the hull* My life is a total wreck and now this happens.
(Time lapse to when the others arrive)
[Colas is waiting for them to arrive]
(Thought)
Colas: If that guy was right then I better keep my mouth shut. Hopefully they don't ask me questions. I wonder... if they are here then how did those rumors back home start up? Maybe they were back on Earth... I don't know. It just seems... strange. Then again, nothing makes sense at all.
[The dragons start to surround the crash site, they notice Colas]
Dragon #1: They found us.
Dragon #2: *points at Colas* He won't live for long to tell his pals about us.
[Colas acts as if he doesn't understand; backs up]
Dragon #1: No, wait!
Dragon #2: Hm?
Dragon #1: I better tell Randle to get a hold of him. Randle!
Randle: Yeah?
Dragon #1: I want him alive. He might know where the others are.
Randle: Understood.
(Thought)
Colas: Oh hell.
[backs up more until he gets close to another dragon preventing him from leaving]
Dragon #3: I don't think so!
[Colas stops for a moment then walks forward without looking back; suddenly Randle jumps him; Colas, startled, takes out his weapon; Randle pins him to the ground pushing against the staff, Colas pushes back]
Colas: What are you doing?! Get--Get off!
[Most of the dragons expressions change to a surprise look]
Dragon #2: Wha-- How does he know Sitiri? He not from here but...
Dragon #1: Looks like we have a spy.
Colas: I'm... Urg! ...no spy!
Dragon #1: Then how do you know how to speak Sitiri?
Colas: I'm not sure. I might have learned it by touching this... Ngh! ...staff thing somehow.
Dragon #1: Don't be ridiculous, boy.
Colas: It's the truth! I could explain if you get this guy off me!
Randle: Kovo?
Dragon #1 (Kovo): Stay on him. *looks at Dragon #2* I need a word with you.
[Kovo and Dragon #2 fall back in the crowd of the others surrounding the crash site; discussion inaudible to Colas; Colas eventully gives in to Randle and allows him to lock his hand behind his back with his own staff; the two return; Colas notices a purple figure in the crowd]
Colas: I seem to reconize you...
Young Dragon: What did you say?
[Kovo geustures to Randle; Colas is knocked out cold]
[Cut to black]
[End of scene]
I would make a game that builds up from this and all the other games and maybe put Cynder in it as well. (Something could of happen to her if she leaves Spyro for awhile.) I also introduce a new character that has never been in the Dragon World. Yes, I'm talking about a human. He's homeless. His entire family is dead. He never meet Spyro before but somehow he knows him. The object that he finds is unique and has an array of abilities.
Spyro is uneasy about this and about him. There's a hidden story between dragons and humans that rarely anyone now. Spyro doesn't trust Colas as easily based of that.
I don't care how it looks but how it functions
