What's your thoughts on Christina Ricci and Wayne Brady?

Well as we know Christina is the new voice of Cynder and Wayne is the new voice of Sparx ... what's your call on the choice of the two voice actors for both characters?

Christina seems to be a perfect match for a teen Cynder - she's got a bit of attitude which Cynder I guess has .. to some degree...

But Wayne Brady I think is a bit of a miss for Sparx .. I've only heard him once during the cutscene with Meadow, I guess I really can't comment on him until I've played the game fully and found out what he is really like.

It's a bit of a shame that either David Spade or Billy West were not recalled to reprise the role, because David's take on Sparx with that dry wit of his, and his one liners would have anyone basically in stitches... Billy didn't do a too bad job of him in TEN, but more so I'd be leaning back towards David for the role, maybe he wasn't available at the time who knows. But hey America, since you've had DOTD for a while now .... what's your thoughts on these two ?

Re: What's your thoughts on Christina Ricci and Wayne Brady?

David Spade simply said "no" when he was asked to return, Obviously he had better things on his find. As For Billy west, i dont know, maybe the same as David Spade or maybe other reasons.
I havn't heard wayne brady yet, but i've heard cynder's new voice and its not bad at all

I like them both, Sparx even cracks a joke at the beginning saying "Voice keeps changing, but I'm good." or something like that.

Re: What's your thoughts on Christina Ricci and Wayne Brady?

Sparx sounds stuped, he sounds like Hunter from the origanal series, Cynder is good, she has a good atitude for her, but she kind of sounds (read to the bottem)

preppy.

I like both of them. Cynder's voice is kiddish but mature, and she's got a fantastic personality boost in this game. "Why do you lead?! *almost hit by Golem* Okay... You lead." I also like Sparx's voice, it might just be my love of Wayne Brady, but I like it.

I liked both voices as well. Cynder has a personality, and Sparx breaks the fourth wall. All is good...

I HATE Wayne Brady as Sparx, and I mildly dislike Christina Ricci as Cynder. She's too high-pitched and has kind of a whine on the edge of her voice, personally.

Re: What's your thoughts on Christina Ricci and Wayne Brady?

The reason why it's a bad idea to use actors for voice work is because it's not their skill set. If you want top notch voice work, you need to hire a professional voice actor. This is why Billy West and Cree Summer were so good; voice acting is their job and they've both been doing it for years.

Christina Ricci is okay as Cynder, but her performance has a tendency to lack emotion. She sounds flat most of the time, which is a bit disappointing. You can tell she doesn't do this often (and it's pretty obvious that Elijah Wood has had more practice when you hear them side by side). I think Mae Whitman would have been a better choice for Cynder; her performance in TEN (what little there was of it) was very well done. I still miss Cree Summer, too, and she could have made a great DotD Cynder.

Wayne Brady is a funny man and I like his comedy, but his voice is not suited to Sparx at all. I'm torn between him and David Spade as worst LoS Sparx voice. His performance is pretty flat and emotionless. It's pretty clear that he's not accustomed to playing this sort of role. On top of that, his voice is just too deep for a character Sparx's size. If they keep this up, the next Sparx is going to be Barry White. XD

Re: What's your thoughts on Christina Ricci and Wayne Brady?

No disrespect to Wayne of course, but just then I had a bit of a flash of an idea who I reckon would have been a good voice for Sparx ...

Don't laugh at me for this one  smile  O:)

It's Matthew Perry aka Chandler Bing from Friends.

His vocal range isn't that deep, he's got that biting sarcasm that David Spade has .. and yeah I reckon he could have done a top job as Sparx ...

Re: What's your thoughts on Christina Ricci and Wayne Brady?

There will never be a better Sparx than Billy West. Not just from a personal standpoint, but from a performance standpoint. Unlike Spade or Brady, West is a voice actor by trade. He was perfect as Sparx in TEN (even made the pesky bug likable). I really wish he'd been brought back for DotD; some of those lines were funny, but the delivery was just cringe-worthy. sad

Re: What's your thoughts on Christina Ricci and Wayne Brady?

Looking back now on it Razz I couldn't agree with you more, but I'm just saying what if Billy wasn't available ... who were they going to look to ? To me Matthew Perry seemed kinda like an alright choice for Sparx ... smile

Yeah he did get a bit annoying in TEN at some stages, I liked him better as that docile cat Stimpy ... lol

Re: What's your thoughts on Christina Ricci and Wayne Brady?

couldn't agree with you more on cree, razz.  i miss her, too.  i still hear her voice in my head when i think about cynder.  was shocked to recently find on imdb.com that she voiced penny from the old inspector gadget cartoons...  i thought the cosby show spinoff a different world was her first acting work.

anyway, i did like david spade best, though, even though i love billy west (forgot he voiced stimpy, but love him in futurama and GeeKeR, R.I.P.).

Wow there's something I didn't know ...

Here's another one for you regarding Cree ...

On Cartoon Network, from the cartoon Codename Kids Next Door ... she's the Afro American girl ... Numbuh 4 I think she is ...

She's an absolute legend smile

Re: What's your thoughts on Christina Ricci and Wayne Brady?

Cree Summer has been voice acting probably for about as long as I've been alive. Some of my favorite Cree voices are Dulcy (Sonic SatAM) and Valery Grey (Danny Phantom). She also voiced Suzie for you Rugrats fans. She is also an accomplished musician and singer, though I can't post my favorite songs by her here.

Billy West is my favorite Sparx voice. He made me laugh. And I love his voice work whenever I hear it (if I can regonize him).

If West weren't availabe, I think they should have looked for other voice actors. There's a huge difference between acting and voice acting. Even actors who do decent voice work (Gary Oldman and Elijah Wood) can't hold a candle to professionals like Ron Pearlman. Actors act primarily with their bodies and don't do much with their voices. Voice actors, however, know how to emote and how to really make even the worst scripts shine.
