What did Malefor say?

Hi. I've finished the game and loved it to death, but I have just one problem. I didn't understand hardly any of what Malefor said throuout it. Naturaly, this left me to try and figure out parts of the story on my own, which didn't work out so well.

Hidden text

Because of the Darth Vader effect they put on his voice, I only understood maybe a fourth of what he said, and that's only because I strained my ears. I've read Razz's review of DoTD and now know that I'm not the only one with this problem *happy dance*, but unfortunately I didn't even think about turning on the subtitles. sad So, I still don't know what he said. *tears* If it is at all possible, could someone post the dialog for me? Or at least tell me the jist of what he said? I would greatly appriciate it. Otherwise I have to play it over again with the subtitles on. XP Thanks. ^-^

Re: What did Malefor say?

posting the dialogue would be nice cos i'm sure other people would like to see it written out too, but one thing you can do in the meantime is turn subtitles on and go into chapter mode and start malefor's lair over.  you don't have to play through anything to hear most of what he says anyway, so it's pretty quick to do.

Re: What did Malefor say?

I always put on subtitles if there's an option to do so, for EVERYTHING. I don't really know why, I'm not hearing impaired or anything, I just somehow understand everything better with subtitles.

Re: What did Malefor say?

i tend to find it visually distracting to have subtitles.  i'd rather be watching faces/expressions, etc.  i only turn it on if i can't understand it (or of course with foreign movies where i don't understand the language at all)

Re: What did Malefor say?

The thing about subtitles is that I can still read them while I'm focused on the action. It's some sort of vision science thing, but I can be looking at someone's face and still register what the subtitles say out of the corner of my eye.

Re: What did Malefor say?

He basically said that Cynder had tricked Spyro into freeing him. Though she replied "I don't know anymore"

Then he said that the true duty of the purple dragon is to resurrect the destroyer and the golems of the deep to bring about the great cleansing. That the true destiny of the purple dragon is to destroy the world. And then Spyro denies that. And then Malefor says that Spyro has fulfilled his destiny nonetheless because he brought back Malefor to finish the job.

Sure. This is the conversation between the characters in the sections of the game where Malefor talked. (Spoilers, needless to say :-P)

*Just before reaching the place where Malefor is*
- Spyro: Are you ready for this?
- Cynder: I'm scared.
- Spyro: Just stay close to me.

*In the room with Malefor*
- Malefor: At long last, my guests have arrived. Please... come in. Such determination to get here... it seems we share other qualities besides that of our colour.
- Spyro: No. I'm nothing like you!
- Malefor: Do you think so? Hmm... we'll get to that.
- Cynder: Don't listen to him, Spyro. Don't listen to anything he says.
- Malefor: You look so weary. Allow me to make you more comfortable.
(collar things around Cynder's and Spyro's necks flash and disappear).
- Malefor: There. That's better, isn't it? It is the least I could do for you, Cynder. After all, you've done so much for me.
- Spyro: You used her!
- Malefor: I used her. She used you. What does it matter really?
- Spyro: (to Cynder) What does he mean?
- Malefor: (to Cynder) What... He doesn't know? Go on, tell him. You mustn't leave him in the dark.
- Spyro: Tell me what?
- Malefor: How she lured you into the well of souls. How she tricked you into freeing me.
- Cynder: You're lying!
- Malefor: (to Cynder) Hmm... I find it peculiar... how you've chosen to remember things.
- Malefor: (to Spyro) Let me assure you, it was you who freed me Spyro. (to Cynder) And you who brought me back. (to Spyro and Cynder) and we have Cynder to thank for that. Hahaha.
- Spyro: (to Cynder) Cynder? Is it true?
- Cynder: No... (looks away) I don't know... I don't know anymore.
- Malefor: Oh, I think you do. But perhaps you need a little nudge.
(Malefor uses magic (?) to turn Cynder into Dark Cynder.)
- Spyro: Cynder!
- Malefor: Hahahahahahahaha!!!
Spyro: Cynder! No!
(Dark Cynder approaches Spyro)
- Malefor: Ignitus should have warned you... you are alone here, young dragon. You have always been alone. Still, here you are... trying so desperately to save this miserable world...
(Dark Cynder attacks Spyro).
- Malefor: ...refusing to accept the true role of the purple dragon. I'm sure that you've been told that I'm the first of our kind... but I assure you, there have been many. It has been the duty of our predeccessors to resurrect the destroyer and the Golems of the deep... (Cynder approaches Spyro, Spyro slowly moves back) ...to bring about the great cleansing. This is the true nature of our kind. Your destiny is to destroy the world.
(Dark Cynder attacks Spyro again).
- Spyro: No! I don't believe that!
- Malefor: Of course you don't. But you have fullfilled your destiny nonetheless. In my time, I was stopped... prevented from completing my quest... but you... you have carried the flame, be it through your own will or not. And soon... the world will be destroyed, and you along with it.
- Spyro: (voice shaking) No...
(Dark Cynder approaches Spyro again and whips him with her tail, sending him sliding across the ground. He raises his wings to protect him while she begins whipping/beating them repeatedly, while he sits there and takes it.)
- Dark Cynder: Fight back!
- Malefor: Hahahahaha!
- Dark Cynder: Fight back! Why won't you fight back?
- Spyro: (sadly) Because you've left me nothing to fight for.
(Cynder changes back to normal).
- Cynder: There's always something.
- Malefor: Argh! So be it! You've made your choice and you shall suffer the same fate!
(The collars and magical link between Spyro and Cynder are restored).
Malefor: Prepare to die!
(Malefor flies up).

*Flying above a volcano*
- Malefor: It has begun!
(Destroyer finishes belt of fire, crawls into a volcano)
- Spyro: Oh no! We're too late!
- Malefor: Welcome to the end of the world.
(planet begins to disintegrate/self destruct or something)

*Battle scene between Spyro/Cynder and Malefor.*
- Spyro: You with me?
- Cynder: I'm with you.
(battle).

*In some underground chamber*
- Malefor: You cannot defeat me! I am eternal!
(purple magic breath sent flying between them)
- Spyro: Just... hang... on!
(Malefor sent flying and crashing by Spyro's/Cynder's magical breath thingy).
(Malefor gets up, but then souls/ghosts of the past purple dragons rise out of the ground)
- Malefor: What is this?
(Dragon ghosts/souls plummet back into the ground, taking Malefor with them).
- Malefor: Noooo!!
(end Malefor section. Dialogue between Spyro and Cynder, and the ending scenes, follow).

the above is probably my favorite line in the whole game.

- Cynder: There's always something.

but UGH the music here makes the rest of this unbearable for me.  you know... that hollywood triumphant "awww" crap.

several cutscenes would have been better, IMO, had they drawn out the visuals and dialogue more.

and the "i'm scared" / "stay close to me" part..  way too much strong male/weak female role enforcement crap.  i realise cynder's been through a lot, but she seemed a bit too.. "demure" i guess.

Re: What did Malefor say?

^ agreed. I mean if Malefor had physically hurt her *ahem* then I can understand. But if I was her, I'd be a little nervous, but glad to be facing my fear and kicking his butt. ^^

XD

A better dialogue for that scene could be.

S: Are you ready?
C: I'm a little scared...
S: Don't worry, you'll be okay, I promise.

still slightly enforces the strong male but also says that the male knows that the female is strong as well. ^^

You can replay Malefor's lair in chapter mode and u can do subtitles on that part. But anyways here is something simaler to what he said:

Malefor: Is that so.
Malefor: You look so weary, alow me to make you more confortable.
Malefor takes the collers of the 2.
Malefor: It is the least i could do for Cynder.
Spyro: You used her!
Malefor: I used her, she used you, what does it matter really?
Spyro: What does he mean? asking Cynder.
Cynder: Don't lissen to him Spyro, don't lissen to a word he says.
Malefor: How she lured you to the well of souls, how she tricked you into freeing me!
Spyro: Is this true Cynder?
Cynder: No! I don't know, I don't know anymore...
Malefor: Oh i think you do, purhaps you need a little bit of nudge!
Cynder turns into Dark Cynder.
Spyro: Cynder no!
Malefor: I'm sure you have heard that i was the first of our kind, but i ushure you there have been many!

Re: What did Malefor say?

Wow. I wasn't expecting so many responses. Thanks so much everyone! ^-^ This helped a bunch. And I'm glad to know that I can rewatch the cutsceens in chapter mode (I wasn't sure before). I did notice that everyone seemed to forget Malefor's short dialogue at the end of the Attack of the Golem level yhough, but that's ok. Thanks again for everyone's help. smile

As for my view on subtitles, I don't mind them too much because they do let you know what people are saying in situations similar to Malefor, but visually I think I prefer without. I especially dislike watching a movie in another language and having to read english sublitles for it, because I end up concentrating on the words and miss quite a bit of what's going on in the movie. I'm a really bad multi-tasker. XP
