Gamespot review is lol

http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/ … ead-review

So basicly this review is weak and just...well pathetic, and pretty much trashes Dawn of the Dragon so bad that even I felt it. This person that review it says that elites were just trial and error that it was near impossible to kill them, ok, lol, you're a noob then, they have colored masks for a reason, blast it off with that element then murder it, done! Then he complains that the game takes TIME to do, he cried because you could sometime be left aimlessly flying around to find your objective, why is that something to cry over, it's called a challenge, get over it. I guess he was mad too because Sparx didn't help enough, LOL. Then he tried to say that combat was just horrible, when really I found it quite entertaining. Mixing up elements and blasting your enemy's and thrashing them about, whats not fun about that?

Basically what the guy is trying to say, is the game sucks because he can't play the game worth a *bleep*, and that no one else should play it either. So there you have it folks, read this review and I guarantee you get a laugh

Re: Gamespot review is lol

Sounds to me like he's just saying the game is unnecessarily difficult in some areas to the point that it's unenjoyable.

Re: Gamespot review is lol

At least it's half, 1up gave it a D+ which is below average and I like the 1up guys. Judging by that review apparently the length of the game and controls (gameplay in general) are also factors to bring it down.

Just think of it as advanced opinion-giving, I'm sure if one of us made a negative review here you wouldn't care because we're not getting paid LOL. I don't really look to reviews anyway, I'm sure they must have said something bad about a game I liked at one point but I may have to search again.

Re: Gamespot review is lol

Reveiws are pretty much pointless unless you're a diehard gamer. Seeing as how the vast majority of us here love Spyro the Dragon it's  no wonder that we don't see the game in the same light as these guys.

Basically yes...all they do is give one of their "reviewers" a copy of the game and they just go play it without really knowing any of the basics. We here enjoy the Spyro games as a whole..but with the LOS series..if you give it to some random guy to try out....they are gonna be like...wtf.

The good thing about the old games was that anyone could pick it up and just go...that and it was a whole new world in gaming when the first one came out....but with this last instalment I knew as soon as I played it that the big time reviwers were gonna trash the hell out of it .

But as mentioned before it's best not to pay attention to reviewers...it's the same thing with movies. It all depends on personal preference...and unfortunetly some reviewer for a bigtime gaming company isn't gonna give a crap about a Spyro game that you STILL can't really find in stores.

Let's all thank whoever did the marketing for this game.

XD

yeah, despite reviewers, people still buy the games, and enjoy them. The user scores are always higher. (though I totally agree with that guy about the camera, such a pain in the *bleep*)

Re: Gamespot review is lol

Most reveiwers are critics who really don't get into the series and understand it. There's only a few rare instances when they're right about a game, and this is not one of them.

Re: Gamespot review is lol

Very very true. Like I said before...none of them have invested any time in the story or the characters, they just pick up the game and judge what they see. Which we all know is pretty low unless the game is some suped up shooter or RPG..

I'll wait for Game Trailers review, at least they are not bias and give scores in areas and shows you.

the problem is, for the most part people want to know how the game plays. story and characters are important to a game, but i think most gamers arent going to buy a game based on story, they want gameplay, so thats what reviewers will focus on.

itd be like judging the DS version of DotD based on story, its thesame story as the other versions, so in your opinion should rate highly, but lets be honest, i havnt played it, but the gameplay is most likely bad... real bad

Re: Gamespot review is lol

I said it before...it depends greatly upon what the gamer wants to experience.

Did DotD have its own little ups and downs....certainly...I like a good game just as much as the next one....and this one had its issues. I am a big fan of the story and the characters just as you said before, but I don't judge a game just on story.

Unfortunely the mechanics are all that matter to MOST reviewers...and I knew from the start that DotD was gonna get trashed by them. Personally I didn't think they were that bad...but their were problem spots. When it comes down to it, as a Spyro fan, I think it was a worthy addition to the series...but that's just my personal oppinion.

Re: Gamespot review is lol

I never listen to the reviewers anymore because the only games that I see getting high points are shooters and RPG's that are T or M. Any games that I play always get low scores. So sad.

I'm disappointed about how they rated it, but then, I haven't agreed with such reviewers in a while. Meh.

Most of the time concerning Gamespot those games are given high reviews because the reviewers get paid to do so. If you see a certain game being advertised on the website, most likely it'll get a high score, regardless of it being a crap game or not.

Although your statement is not particularly true, lots of the games I play get pretty good reviews and they're aimed for the family audience. Zelda: Phantom Hourglass got a 9, which is higher than Twilight Princess (even if it's by .2 lol) and Twilight Princess is the more mature game with the better graphics. Even if they rate a game I like a bad score, I can still agree with their points most of the time, but I enjoy it anyway.

Re: Gamespot review is lol

I agree with your statements. Many of the games that I enjoy have been given dismal reviews....but I still enjoy them no matter what the reviewer says. But they have not given bad scores to all games...and I have seen several non shooters that have recieved very good scores. A game like Spore is an example of this.

I actually do agree with many of the points made on DotD...I just overrule them because I really don't care...I like the game and that's that.

Re: Gamespot review is lol

Oh that's just harsh that really is!!! I've managed to get through so far with little help, the game itself is really great, if'n you're wondering where I'm up to... just knocked off 3 siege towers and helped that lil mole dude back to his catapult now I gotta face off against that huge freakingly ugly green monster!!

And I'm stuck !!

But otherwise 10/10 for gameplay, what's not to love about Spyro picking up a Grublin and giving it a right royal thrashing ... smile

Re: Gamespot review is lol

I found one comment elsewhere that explains the low score:

Gamespot says the gameplay is boring and repetitive with the combat.  Then, when it mentions the grabbing ability, which I say adds a lot of excitement to the gameplay and sometimes the added challenge of setting an enemy up, they practically make fun of it.  They are basically ignoring half of the gameplay that they feel they don't need, and then are judging the game based on the two main attacks.  I'll agree that some enemies took too long due to that, because they took forever to kill without the ability to grab and inflict massive damage.

Re: Gamespot review is lol

Yeah they get upset...calling the game button mashing.....but I'm prety sure that most games like this involve trying to kill enemies....but yeah I agree.

Who cares as long as your the one enjoying the game....I for one love it. Who cares what they say.

Re: Gamespot review is lol

Well, I was playing with my friend which was easier, but I agree with them that the grabbing can be crap sometimes because you can't even see where you are when you're bombarded with enemies. There is no depth perception and of course I press it at some moments and miss by near inches. Then the character is suspended in animation and gets hit by one million things. >:I Most of the time it is button mashing if so many things are going on that you can't use a proper strategy because you can't even see. There probably wouldn't even be a proper strategy anyway if it wasn't for that dodge button.

Re: Gamespot review is lol

Very true. The thing that annoyed me most was when they were suspended in the air for like...10 seconds....before falling to the ground....and to be honest only one grab attack really worked for me...the rest was just trying to dodge everything and use breath attacks.

If you just pick up and play for the first time it is kinda annoying...but after awhile you get use to it. I really would like to try it with two players...I have heard that it's pretty cool.

Re: Gamespot review is lol

It's not a critics job to love the game or all the elements that are within it. The critic is played to sit down with a game and judge the mechanics in as fair a way as they personally can. Unfortunetly every critic is different.

Our world unfortunetly has become a much more violent world....and in turn a lot more games include violence....that's what people want these days. Most developers focus on this aspect of gaming because it caters to about 75% of all gamers out there. I certainly talk to a lot more gamers who prefer a bloody shooter over anything that involves a purple draogn running around killing apes.

It's no surprise that nobody really wants anything to do with Spyro. Sure it was ok 10 years ago when it first came out....but what did you really see for bigtime shooters back in 1998....heck Spyro was the best you could do with technology when it came out...so many gamers took a liking to it.

It's just a different audience these days. The developers are gonna target what most gamers want...and in return the critics are more use to focusing on such games. The day I see Spyro receive a very good review will prolly be a very cold day in H E double hockey sticks.
