Cynder - the other purple dragon

Haven't you guys noticed that they say that Spyro is the only purple dragon in that generation...but take a look at Cynder! She's purple too!

True, more of a violet shade of purple...but she's STILL purple!

Any thoughts?

Yes sometimes she does look a dark shade of purple, but that's in certain lighting conditions. It's true that she's actually black, as the Hermit said,

"You are the BLACK dragon Cynder" etc.

I will agree that CYnder looks black/purple throughout most of the game. But as much as I'd love a good plot twist, she's intended to be black. They often refer to her as being a black dragon, and in ANB/TEN she was black/gray. Not to mention her egg was black.

Of course, they did switching developers certainly had something to do with it...

It's kind of funny...she looked purple in the daylight to me, mainly in DotD. Maybbe I ought to replay some of the darker levels and she if she syill looks purple..

*has an idea and goes to look at the DotD video game case^

I just checked...on the game cover, she CLEARLY looks a dark-ish shade of purple!

*looks again* And I just noticed that the word "Spyro" on the game case is purple, but it's closer to Cynder's color than Spyro's!

She looks grey on the cover to me... But like I said before, I think it's mainly based on the lighting. Take the Valley of Avalar for example, really bright. But then on darker levels like Burned Lands she looks black.

I also think that it also depends on the console you are playing DotD on. On PS3 and 360 it's in more detail.

I have it on PS2 and they look very similar it terms of graphics. If you (or rather we) had it on the more advanced consoles, it might look different again.

Always looks purple to me. Somethings up! I would think a whole color shift would have been noticed before release lol. Especially when the color she becomes is such an important part of the story

Well she has like a shade of purple. I'm disagreeing on what your saying she might become purple because i go with the whole "exposer to the darkness, and maybe spyro saved her and shes returning to her real color" i agree with that. so yeah she might be the next purple dragon.

Everyone, Cynder is still a BLACK dragon. Even the characters in DotD say she is, it's just the coloring of HD television that make her look purple in some places in the game.

In the game, the prophecy says a purple dragon is born ONCE every ten generations.

And Ignitus says Cynder is a black dragon, even her egg was black when it was taken.

spyro and cynder were born at the same. it is a possibility.

how do you know? maybe the egg was in a shade and it relfected the dark on the eggs shell

Well seems to me she has a shiny black coloring which can kinda make it look like she is a purple color in the bright levels.

*gets idea* PLOT TWIST!

Okay, let's say there's that whole "a purple dragon is born once every 10 generations" thing...

...but what if that's what was thought, and though everyone thinks Cynder is a black dragon, she's actually purple. A really dark shade of purple, but purple.

The reasoning for this is because Cynder has her own special destiny, because she is what is known as "the dark purple dragon" - the purple dragon who had been born in darkness, living in darkness for most of her life until the other purple dragon (Spyro) could "purify" her and bring her true color back.

Kind of like a whole light/dark, yin/yang thing.

There has been a lot of topics about Cynder being purple. And in the story, she still is STILL a black dragon. She was black in ANB, she was still black in TEN, it's just that the shading EL made to make Cynder look like she's purple.

The shading EL made like Aura said made Cynder purple, but also it could because of spyro standing near her so the sun would shine off his scales and reflect onto her black scales giving the impression of purple, when she isnt.

Yes, exactly what I was saying. Think about her in TEN - she looks grey, but it doesn't mean that she is. She was still black.

She's freaking black. I don't know why everyone is obsessing over her nearly appearing purple when it was just the way her model was built.

*get's other, completely random idea* Maybe Cynder has the ability to change the color of her scales to a certain extent, so she can turn somewhat purple and fool people into thinking SHE'S the purple dragon!

*shrugs* Just throwing it out there!

One thing you have to admit - Cynder helped Spyro A LOT...and she got almost no credit at all!

Well she sure wasn't colored black even in the slightest in dotd.. She ALWAYS looks purple. It's not a shading issue. They just straight up made her a purple dragon.

Then I must say that you are in denial. Personally I could care less what color she is I really just think it's all the fans who are obsessed with her that like going around screaming "OMG SHES THE SAME COLOR AS SPYRO THEY"RE IN LOVE!" which managed to blow the whole issue up. Don't really care though, it's a different model shading that EL put into effect that made it appear she was more purple when she should have been plain black.

In the CG cutscenes in DotD she looks almost black - kinda like a very dark grey. If she was meant to be a purple dragoness they would've made her look purple in those cutscenes.

Like I said several times before, IT'S THE LIGHTING ON CERTAIN LEVELS.
