Cynder - the other purple dragon

If you look closely on levels such as Valley of Avalar, you can see that spyro's purple was reflecting onto cynder's scales making here APPEAR purple when she isnt, whereas in dark lighted levels such as burned lands cynder is clearly seen as black. All the speculations on cynder being purple wrong and are simply down to spyro's colour being reflected onto cynder in the game.

the theory has been posed before on this forum that Cynder's color changing is because she used to be black when she was under Malefor's spell but in The Eternal Night, she had been free of Malefor's spell for a while, so she wasn't black anymore... so then The Eternal Night takes place. by the time we get to DOTD, she had been around Spyro, the purple dragon, for a while, so SHE started to turn purple.

although it's really probably because of how the game designers made her, it doesn't hurt to put some imagination into it.

She obviously isnt a special awesome purple dragon, but her color is totally not a reflection of spyro's scales.

If you can't see that she is purple then you are probably blind. Even the box art shows a purple Cynder.

Even young Cynder...

The only one that was truly black was adult Cynder. Maybe black dragons start off with purple scales then turn black?

Cause that's not a reflection of light!

^That is indeed purple unless my color perception is failing me.^

As for Cynder being called a "Black Dragon" in DotD, perhaps it was used as a title she had when she was evil. That's possible considering that the Hermit still believed she was evil.

You have an interesting point!

And I have another idea - what if, by saying that Spyro is the purple dragon that is born only once every 10 generations...what if, by that, they mean a dragon that was purple from birth? And that it's possible for other dragons (like Cynder) to become purple later in life, while they may a different color when they're younger (kind of like how a lot of cats have blue eyes aat first, but then they turn other colors).

Look, EL just probably made a color error on Cynder. This doesn't change the fact that she's another purple dragon. The characters didn't even say anything about Cynder being another purple dragon, did they? No. Can't we just jump to the conclusion that Estranges Libellules simply made a coloring mistake on Cynder that makes her look purple?? She's still A BLACK DRAGON, people. It would ruin the storyline if they suddenly made Cynder a purple dragon too, and it wouldn't make any sense at all.

And Sethisto, don't get too carried away with taking pictures of DotD Cynder alright?

I doubt it was a color error on EL's part. To keep it from ruining the storyline however, Cynder is an indigo dragon, not purple. Spynder's idea is possible, but I don't think the developers had that in mind when changing her color.

You have a point, because she sometimes looks indigo-ish...oohh. what if later, they find out there's a prophecy about "the Indigo Dragon", and Cynder as that dragon! And at first, eveeryone is like "That can't be, she was evil!", but then they realize that it is indeed her.

She is black. Compare her to a blacksnake. Blacksnakes are black, but the reflection of light on their scales gives them a purplish cast.

Barely purple on those. Cynder is purple even in dark rooms. Why would she go from being so obviously black in ten to black only when lighting conditions are absolutely perfect and satturation is down to 0?

Maybe the could've not made her indigo/purple/whatever, but they could of made her a dark ray/almost black.
