Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

This was not the first time Colum had soared though the air, freefalling was something he had done a few times before. He was use to the ripping wind stinging the eyes and tugging the cloth. However, this was the first time he was not in control of his movements, and he found ti to be unnerving. The boy had his arms wrapped tightly around Zeel's neck to the point that he gave a passing thought to wondering if he was choking the dragon.

"This is unsufferable," thought Colum as he fought the urge to look down, "this dragon could kill me off at any moment if he pleases!" THis thought struck the boy with the force of a mallet. He then cursed himself for being so trusting and foolhardy, then he cursed Zeel, not for any particular reason, more of a way to vent his anger. As he cursed, he tightened his grip.

"Please be over soon, please be over soon, please be over soon..." he chanted, feeling his legs start to make a prickling sensation.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

"Awwwww, you'd do that for me?" replyed Colum sarcasticly, trying to repress the sumersaults his stomic was turning.  By this time, the boy had worked himself into a tight ball that's only purpose was to hang on to Zeel's neck. He had wormed his legs upward untill his elbows touched his knees, and his legs had wrapped themselvs around Zeel's neck with avengence.

"Stop comforting me and just get me where I need to be," said Colum in a tone drenched in anger brought on by fear, "please..." he added, noticing how irrational he must have seemed at that point."

"You're beginning to choke me," said Zeel to Colum, as he felt Colum's legs wrap around his neck like a constrictor snake. "Relax your legs just a bit, please, or I'll asphyxiate before I get there, and that wouldn't be too good..." He decided to just imply Colum's death to avoid seeming too blunt. "Anyways, we're almost there, so take it easy..."

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

((OK, I'd better give those two centaurs names, to avoid confusion. Err... The older one is Tomas, and the younger one is Marko. OK?))

"We have intruders!" Idris barked as Tomas and Marko came back with several centaurs and hyenas each. "Prepare yourselves!"

Having no choice but to obey their commander, they all sighed and got out their swords and bows. Tomas stepped forward. "How do you know?"

"Because I saw them, that's how I know!"

"They?" Marko said.

"Yes. A dragon, and what appeared to be a human riding it."

"But--" Marko started.

"Come on!" Idris cried, starting to gallop towards the staircase that led up to the tower. "We'll shoot them down." Reluctantly, the others followed him.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Colum relaxed his legs to avoid killing off his mode of transportation. The boy leaned forward, his plan was to make very well sure that the dragon had taken note that Colum had losened his vice like grip on the dragons neck. This turned out to be a mistake, as Colum leaned a blast of wind buffeted him and gave just enough of a push to make him rotate. Colum found himself with his legs holding him to the underside of the dragons neck.

It was also in this moment that Colum managed to spot figures far below him, they looked like horses with riders holding bows, "Bows?" thought the boy for a moment, then a horrid idea came to him, "Arrows kill dragons!" he though in a stupid manner. The horror of his newfound knolage caused a small scream to excape his lips and prompted him to overlook the fact that his legs were slipping. Before the boy had gotten the message to the dragon that they were (most likely) in danger gravity had taken him. Colum fell, (making shure to smash his skull into Zeel's foreleg on his way down) he tumbled foreward through the air. Before his eyes started a cycle, he would see the ground and all the small houses, then he would catch a glimpse of Zeel, he would then see the houses a little larger, then see Zeel a little smaller, houses again, Zeel, house, Zeel, house, and then he could no longer spot the dragon.

Fear took a hold of the boys heart with an icy glove. A film coverd his eyes created by the stinging and icy night wind. The boy closed his eyes to remove the film. Faly opened his eyes. It took no more then 3 seconds for him to anlize the situation, get his bearings, and formulate a plan.

Faly extended his limbs to halt his foreward falling motion and slow his fall. Although that was about all he could do in his current predicament, billiowing his cloak wouldn't halt or even a slow a fall from this height.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

The centaurs readied their archers again and took aim. Idris sighed. The dragon was very mobile. He was also very familiar...

Suddenly, it dawned on him. "Stop!" He yelled. The guards exchanged confused glances. "The dragon... He is a slave of the king's!"

He leant over the edge of the tower, trying not to throw up because of the massive height. "YOU! DRAGON! SAVE THAT HUMAN QUICKLY, AND THEN COME UP HERE IMMEDIATELY!" He hollered.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Faly was intent on slowing his fall rate if not for Zeel to catch him, then so he would live as long as could ever be possable in such a predicament. Sparwling out, spreading fingers, extending limbs as far as humanly possable, each and every one of these tricks he employed to his advantage. Of course, these did little to actilly alter his current reality, and he made no attempt to delude himself to that fact.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Faly felt the breath drivven from his lungs as the dragon embraced him in his crushing grip. The man felt both relife that Zeel had grabbed him, and worry that the dragon would kill Faly as  saved him from the fall. Faly used the arm that Zeel had not *bleep*ed against his side to try and pry himself some breathing room, one armedly pushing against the dragon's chest, needless to say it was a vain attempt.

"Tight... grip..." croked Faly with what little air he could muster.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Barely hearing Colum utter something, Zeel could not distinguish his words, but had a feeling that it was on account of his tight grip. He slightly loosened it as to let him speak.

"What was it you were saying?" he asked. "Hang on, we're almost to the ground..."

As he made his slow descent, he dropped his passenger - abruptly, but only a foot from the ground, being careful not to let his head fall first. He then settled himself nearby.

"Sorry about that, that's how I'd let a load down. Quite hard to let a person down comfortably if you're not used to it. So, about those archers... Funny creatures. Centaurs, I believe. Do you have any idea why they would want to kill us?" He asked. He then realized that his voice bled his suspicion and regretted not hiding it.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Faly landed on his feet, made a few stumbling steps, gained his balnece and sat himself down. He took a few deep long breaths, held each one in for a moment, the made a sigh like exhale. He had expected to die, he expected to shatter upon the earth and enter whatever sort of afterlife awaited him. This experence wasn't new to him, he had faced death before. The thing was had him is such dissaray was the fate the when he had faced death this time, he felt a calm reassurence settle over him, and that scared him.

Faly turned to Zeel and said, "You're rambling." He stood up and began walking over to the dragon saying, "And yes those were centaurs, filthy halve breeds, and I have suspision that our dear employer has them trained to kill off any potental trespassers on his...," Faly justiculated at the structure behind him, "tower, palace thingy ." Faly then patted Zeels side saying, "and thanks for catching me, although you should have let me drop."

Faly had a general theroy all animals (and all female humans for that matter). As a rule he thought they all were rather dense or airheaded. That they all would have trouble completing the most menal chores with any consistant success. That they all were much like insects in that they were smart enough to understand that the gods had pulled a crule trick when they were created, but wernt smart enough to understand the magnitude of the joke themselvs.

Zeel was somewhat shocked with this comment. "Are you serious? Don't tell me you're suicidal... so, are we still going to the destination you had in mind?" The archers made him feel uneasy, but they didn't seem to care anymore, at least not for the time being.

Faly smirked, "I'm not suicidal, but you don't let someone that you owe a favor to...," the man paused, then sighed and continued, "nevermind, you'll just have to learn some things for yourself."

Faly stopped petting Zeel and looked toward the intimadating tower before him. It loomed over him and made him wary and rather uncomfortable.

"Perhaps I am  suicidal," began Faly with a stern face, not looking at Zeel as he spoke, "but our next move is to knock on the front door."    "Givven we can find the danme thing..." he thought miserably.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

"Are we walking or flying there?" Zeel inquired, "that is, if you're still in the mood for flying." He was pretty certain that any mishap that happened last time would be easily correctable this time. "You know, carrying a human around is a rather strange experience, but I bet it would be a strange sensation for a human to fly on a dragon. What did it feel like for you? Would there be anything I could do to improve your experience?" He added quickly. "What could be done to make the flight safer next time?"

Faly began walking away, it was an implyed answer to one of Zeel's question. "A saddle, I need a freaking saddle," began Faly, rememsing about an old friend, "do you know if they make those?"

"And I don't give a danm if you don't want to wear one," thought Faly, "You're wearing it if I have to nail the stupid thing to your back!"

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Faly picked up on the hurt in Zeel's voice. His crule mind instantly gained a perverted satifaction from the pain he had caused the dragon, a scense of raw and malignint power made him momentarly drunk. The man longed to turn the blade that he had stabbed into Zeel, to totally crush the dragon with hard words and heavy insults. "Depends," he thought his eyes narrowing in sick enjoyment, "you're a tool in the way that you do whatever you are bidden as if with no will of your oun. But yet you are a useless tool in the way that you think too danmed much for your oun good, always comtemplating those "what ifs" and such. What good is a hammer that loves the nail? On the other hand you're alsomt as bad a companion! Your opinions and thoughts are not your oun, they are what you've been taught! I'm talking to your morther or father who gave you the ideas and silly notions more then the dragon that I actilly see. In that manner your a whole group of companions who are all as usless as a single mint in a garlic festavle!"

But he held these sour words in and bit his touge, those words would not only lose him a potentail weapon and friend and possably his life, but he himself knew how such words givven in responce to a heartfelt question could cut to the soul and tear it into peices (two in this case). Faly felt sorrow at his oun boldness in even thinking such a crule responce, he covered his eyes in self emplaced shame.

Colum opened his eyes and immeditly took the few small steps required to reach Zeels side and began to stroke the dragon's scaily hide. "Depends," he began, "you might make a great beast of war and means of travel...," at this point Colum paused, waiting for the dragon to become either insulted or hurt by his words, then he continued, "but I think I would prefer your conversation over another flight any day of the week, no year!"

"They appear to have landed Idris." Marko pointed out.

"Yes, I have noticed, I'm not blind!" Idris snapped, slightly irritated. He wasn't sure whether they had simply ignored him, or not heard him. He didn't want to lean over the edge again and shout, so he merely said, "They'd better come, or else I'll go down there and get them myself. Ulkna will not be impressed when he finds out that a slave escaped."

"So... What will he do?" The timid Marko asked.

Idris simply looked at him and raised an eyebrow. "What do you think?"

"The death penalty?"

"Exactly."
