Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Colum quickened his pace to keep in step with Zeel's much larger strides. "I go where I feel like," said Colum casually, "I live a free life... well, as free as one can be wile still being tied to his bread by gold." the boy made felt a small strain to hold time with Zeel, but he brushed it off and continued talking, "enough about me, how did you manage to find yourself out here?" Colum held up his palm and closed his eyes stating, "I know you said you left your parents and all that but I know ther is more to it then just that!" The boy grinned at Zeel, "No-one takes to the road of his oun free will without good reason. I diddn't, everyone I have met before you diddn't, and I'm supposed to belive one day you just up and thought, "It's time for me to leave my lovving family behind and go out into the crule crule world?"

"Well..." began Zeel, "after we found a decent place to settle down, things got quite dull. Now, this wouldn't be much, except thatthere were always those with stories to tell. Interesting stories... one time, for example..." Zeel paused for a moment as he tried to recall a story, but then continued. "I'm trailing off. Anyways, I wanted some interesting stories to tell everyone. I wanted to be known among my fellows as the one that always had a good story. And I was also looking for a - well, that's my business. I'll share as much with you as you'll share with me. Now you tell me - you gave the same answer as I did initially. Care to enlighten me to more?"

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Colum winced at the idea of trading information with this dragon (or any other being for that matter). Not only did it make him grow close to the creature in question, but they would know his metaphoric kryptonite. Two things that he wanted to avoid at once, mental and physical weakness, givven out with one minor laps of judgement or slip of the toung.
Swollowing hard, the boy turned to the ground and frouned, "What's there really to say? I came out of my mother. I sucked at here tit like every man," he paused and laughed, "I mean, every man does to his mother. My father taught me how not to live life, my mother taught me how to interact with others. After a time I found that the way I was livving with them wasn't going to get me far, so I left." Colum worked very hard to look everywhere but into the dragons eyes. It was a weekness for him to mist up whenever someone spoke of there love for there family for long enough, or for him to speak of his at all.
Colum felt his eyes moisening, in a panic he cast about for a diffrent subject, "You were looking for a what?" he asked quickly, latching on to what Zeel had spoken.

Evading Colum's question, Zeel tried to press another on him. "What do you mean, 'wasn't going to get me far'?" He felt as if Colum was being evasive, he still didn't know anything that would drive him to leave, let alone get to a place like this.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Colum felt the heat rise to his face when questioned further, fealing the dread that he would say something that peaked the dragons intrest. He was hoping to get Zeel to think he was boring and common and not needed to be examined more closely. "Well," he began slowly, thinking out his words before givving them a voice, "I looked at how they were livving and where they were. My father worked in government chopping," he faltered," things with an ax. My mother stayed at home and kept the house from falling down around us..." he paused and saw the dragon was not satified with his cheap responce. "While I and the rest of the family worked any job we could for a little coin." finished Colum, who tryed (and failed) to appear nonschelont. "Simply put, me and my "beloved" parents diddn't see eye to eye on certain matters, and one day," he paused again, "I... fealt the urge to leave the lifestlye they were providing behind."

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Zeel had listening intently and patiently. He had the strange feeling that his partner wasn't letting on about something, was trying to hide something. This was reinforced by what Zeel interpreted as slight nervousness, maybe even failed nonchalance. However, he didn't want to have the impression of an interrogator, and so relented from his questioning.
"Very interesting story..." Zeel said, before he remembered that the story wasn't interesting and had no reason to be interpreted as being so. He hoped this would just be interpreted as a polite response, rather than as his foresight on what he believed to be Colum's real story, and did not choose to answer Colum's previous question.

Colum diddn't have the social graces of the dragon (ironiclly as he viewed dragons as savages), so he went on to press Zeel, "So what are you looking for? Fame, gold, glory, the dragon equivelt of floozies? What what what?", Colum said "what what what," with a hurge grin trying his best to sound like an adolesnt child with alot of questions.

"What I went in search of... is rather irrelevant," Zeel said dismissively. "So, what do you think will happen when we get there?" Zeel asked, trying to change the subject, as he turned his head upwards to examine it again. "Do you think that some sort of ambush awaits us?" He was rather curious as to the answer to the second question, and he was almost certain of the answer.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
It became apparent to Colum that Zeel was going to keep his scerets, for a wile longer at any rate. "I'm not completly sure what will happen at the front gate..." it was the first time he had thought on it. The more he thought on it however, the more it seemed like a bad idea. He was walking toward a group of halve man halve beasts with the intent of telling them that a dragon was bleeding out in town. Furthermore, they were to simply assume that he was not only telling the truth, but he was an ally of the dragon in question and they should not cut him another smile under his chin.
"Are you any good at running away?" asked Colum, then he laughed to himself thinking ,"Of course he isn't, he was a slave you moron!"

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Colum felt inward humor at Zeel's question. He, after all, was a criminal. His job was running quickly and for long periods of time with momentary events of hiding. The boy tryed to sound reassuring, but not egotistical when he spoke.
"I have some experence with running and hiding," he said, trying to keep a straight face, "well enough to survive this long... and not end up a slave... or dead."
Colum walked by the dragon is sylence for a time, the door was now in plain sight, but still a good distence off. As he walked, the boy's mind wondered hither and thither, from idea to idea, like a bee among fresh flowers. Eventully the bee settled on a mystery, something the boy did not know in the slightest, "What is Zeel looking for? Whatever it is, either it's embarsing to him, it's important enough to him to keep secret, or he does'nt know himself..."
"What are you looking for?" asked Colum without looking at Zeel. He thought that is the dragon diddn't want to talk about it, then he could just ignor that he had spoken in stead of dicing him to fleshy ribbons.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
This quiery took Colum back, so much so in fact that he paused his walking for a moment. His first impuse was to tell the dragon that the closest thing he had to "friends" were exactilly the people he was travling to find. That and his family, but to tell the dragon that now would not only give the beast power over him, but make Zeel mistrust him even more for lieing to him, "Even if he doesn't tell me what he's looking for..." the boy thought bitterly.
"What do you mean by home?" asked Colum, it wasn't an evasion, it was an honest question. "If you mean the place I was raised then no, I never plan on returning nor meeting any of my friends there again." finished the boy in a matter-of-fact tone. "However, wile roaming from home to home," he continued, spreading his arms to indicate that he called anywhere he could sleep his home, "I do plan on meeting some friends." he paused and smiled at the dragon, "if you haven't died or run off by then, you can meet some of them too. I'm going to make it into a bit of a "party", so to speak, when I see any of them again." the boy put power behind the word "party" and a sinister flicker came into his eye as he spoke the word.
"While were on the subject, what storys do you plan on bringing to your home? The tale of you heroic travel to the city of dragons? The one about your daring excape from captivity? Your amazing ability to catch and realise your pasnegers?" Colum was gently jesting, not intending to step on Zeel's toes, more to make light of his trials.
"And what will you tell them of your travling companion? Will you tell them he was a cloaked rouge with a taste for blood? That he was a small boy with the dumb luck to have enough gold to buy a slave? Was he a villan who abused you and used you as another of his little toys? Did he make you second guess everything you had been taught or stiffen your resolve in what you belived? Or did you simply not have another with you and all these deeds of greaness are your oun? What will you tell them of me?" Colum was, at this point, grinning braodly and enjoying himself greatly. It gave him no end of joy to think of what the dragon would say about him, or even if he would be mentioned at all.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Zeel's face lit up at the mention of this question. "Well..." he said, "I'll be sure to tell them of your part in saving me, even if your allegiance was a little misgui-"
At this point he heard the tranging of teh archer's bow. He immediately tried to move out of the way, but he did not need to, as the arrow was not very well aimed. He gave the archer a venomous glare, wondering if the archer's vision matched his.
"Ah, not these dolts again! I'm glad they've never taken any lessons with the bow, apparently... What is your plan of action?" he asked Colum as he carefully observed the archers, waiting for them to nock their arrows again. "Are you still sure about this?" he questioned in a daring tone.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Colum was listening closely to Zeel as he was very intrested in what the dragon was going to say about him, at least, untill the beast was cut short by something. The clatter of an arrow skittering across the ground pulled at Colums attenction. Confused, the boy looked about and managed to spot a small group of "mangy beasts" with bows. Assuming that it was they who fired the bolt his first responce was to simply point and laugh.
"What the hell kind of beast has an aim that is that horrable?" hooted Colum, doubling over with merth, "They couldn't hit the brad side of a barn door with a war hammer!" after a few moment of the boy avoiding the chanse of wetting himself, he spoke to the dragon, "Well, if they are aiming at us, then we can't go near innocent beasts...", he broke off, trying to keep a straight face, "anything next to us is in danger from them!" he laughed as he continued walking toward the archers.

"They're coming?"
"It worked?"
"Let's hope so." Idris said as he leant over the edge and watched them, trying not to be sick because of the tremendous height. "Let's go and meet them at the palace entrance. Maybe then we can find out why that slave dragon is out of his quarters."
"Should we inform the king once we find him?" Marko asked as they started to walk down the tower staircase.
"Of course! Whose heads will he have if we don't - theirs or ours?"
No one dared to answer.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Colum strode at a brisk pace toward the looming tower before him, trying to ignor the dragons circling. It annyoed him to no end that Zeel would buffet him with a great wind every time he flew over him. The boy thought to tell him to stop, but he was too preoccupied with watching if the centars were going to try and run up to him and club him to death, as the beasts ovisly couldn't kill him off from afar.
By this time it was more of a blind curiosity that drove the boy. He knew that going toward the creatures that had fired at him would be very dangerous, but that was also one of the things that drove him. A simple challange, a little puzzle, though it may consist of how to mentally or physically defeat these beasts with the least amount of damage to himself, so be it.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Once at the bottom of the tower staircase, the centaurs made their way through many long corridors, filled with ceiling-high pillars and priceless artefacts. Eventually they reached the palace main entrance. Idris dismissed the two guards and he, Tomas and Marko stood out in the cold night.
"There they are." Tomas said, pointing, "Just outside the gates."
Idris made a signal with his hand at the doorman. The gates slid open. "Hey, you two!" He called, "Enter! I have a few words for you. If you flee, we shall chase you down; we are faster than you think, so don't even try. Come!"

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Colum heard the beast tell him to enter, tell him that he would hunt both the dragon and him down, and he caught a hint of fear in the beasts voice. The boy assumed that the fear was not based on meeting a mere human and a small dragon, it just diddn't make scense. He guessed that it had to do with a fear of consequences inflicted by some higher power. Wether it was the beast's god or the one who gave his coin the boy couldn't tell, and simply diddn't care unless it would help him break the beast.
"Zeel," began Colum reaching into his cloak, untoing the clasp that hald it to his back," do you know anything about magic?" The boy smirked, he had a feeling the Zeel had not only never learned about magic, apart from those outlandish tales that his fellowdragons had told him back home, but he was also probally a little frightened.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
The thought of ground-bound creatures trying to chase him down amused Zeel. He could already imagine their cries of frustration as he diminished in size and was soon nothing more than a speck in the sky.
"Well, I hear..." he began to respond to the question asked to him, "...that it usually doesn't end pleasantly for those that are the subjects of the spell, unless the subject is the caster..." He had heard much about the potential of wizards to corrupt, to destroy, to ravage. He had also heard about their potential to heal, to restore, but they were by nature harder to recall. "It seems that it would be very unpleasant to be a victim of magic. Hopefully I won't have an unpleasant encounter with a magic user..."
