Now don't get me wrong Adult cynder was a great one, her reason was behind her will and being slaved and mind controlled of some sort, Malefor's reason through is the most stupidest thing that he should of just been a random monster crushing through the world, Do we ever get a hint of why a nutjob wants to end the world and everything? Even most nutcases have a case of what went wrong, Stating the darkness obsessed him is just plain cliché that's i'm starting to think Dragon Ball Z villains were better, The case was stories with They were obsessed with darkness just doesn't get the drift anymore. Ripto wanted Power and to rule avalar, Gnasty just likes to fight spyro and anyone..heck even the sorceress was wanting Horns and exterminate dragonkind.

Mark Hamil has a great voice, but the writers just seem to have made malefor more worse then what could of been a great boss.

I refuse to think that Malefor and the apes did a frieza Planet vegeta death explosion to every Dragon in the realms.

That much is true that Malefor's motives are vauge. In fact, none of the characters that witnessed Malefor's first reign for power go into detail about his backstory besides the fact that he wanted control over more then just elements. There may be something they are hiding from Spyro... how come he wanted to expose the core of the planet with a dark gem that acts like a prision gate of some sort sounds like one thing that seems quite odd. Those dragon spirits coming out of that same gem also suggest something important about it. If he went through all that just to get to the gem... I don't know.

Actually the developers only had so much time to do the game that they rushed it. So they never got to explain the reason for why exactly Malefor wanted to destroy the world...I just find plot holes disappointing <.<

I'm sure that if Spyro flew an F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter, Malefor would have
been killed in a few seconds. But that's no fun for the game designer.

Wasn't it all about "renewing the dragon race" by destroying it?

And even if it's flawed because Malefor was crazy, there is still enough. The Joker in the Dark Knight wasn't considered a criminal without reason even though he kinda was. He was just an "agent of chaos" or as Michael Caine's Alfred said, "Some people just want to watch the world burn." And it worked for the Joker's character developement!! Why can't it be that way for Malefor?

The comic's and the movie based always differ but have the same key point.

In the comics he is very much...more worse and creepy

Heath Ledger's character made up those stories. That's why he tells two stories. One was in the clip I shared. Here's the other one:

He tells a completely different story. He's demented no doubt. But why? We don't really know according to the movie.

I recall that the backstory for the Joker is that he used to be just a normal criminal... until Batman cornered him and caused him to fall into a cylinder full of cheicals of some sort.

How Malefor goes about destroying Warfang and then trying to destroy the planet does seem odd. Maybe the backstory told in TEN is some sort of significance... and Cynder being transformed into an adult may have retain her true age for who knows how long. Blah blah blah...

I'm pretty sure in the early comic's his family..wife and son or just a wife died by unknown reasons, he then fell into a chemical pot in a factory he worked at, I think he was a low level thief before falling in or after.

That would surly make him at some angle a tragic villain, however most tragic villains have a degree of remorse or sign of heart.

I haven't read the rest of the thread but,

Malefor lacked an insane amount of screentime. I'm pretty sure there are sensible details behind his conclusion of destroying the world (destroying the world to rid of its 'impurities' is a pretty common and accepted action of antagonists now), but it just didn't have enough explanation. To be honest, I am having a hard time accepting the fact that there is an insane lack of story from TEN, and they tried to develop it in DotD too quickly, and it ended up with a lot of gaping holes.
