Was Avalar Part of the Dragon Worlds? Possibly another Forgotten Realm?
What does everyone else think? I'm thinking it may be another Forgotten Realm because of the fact that they too like the Original Dragon Realms have Home-worlds and Portals to other lands.
During the Cut-scene where we find out how Ripto Came to Avalar, They were entering in Co-ordinates which may mean that Ripto came from the Same Planet as Avalar. I am only assuming that they must have used this same method to catch Spyro as they intercepted the Dragon Shores Portal meaning the the Dragon Realms were probably on the same planet as Avalar.
Hence since there is no dragons around, It is another Forgotten Realm.
I mean Hey... The Forgotten Realms Portals of Spyro 3: Looked Extremely Similar to the ones found in Avalar

Re: Was Avalar Part of the Dragon Worlds? Possibly another Forgotten Realm?
Yes and No.
It could be implied that dragons (without apposing thumbs) are very bad at recording history, or perhaps several Malefor-type NWO happens periodically through time, wiping dragon history and even pre-history. The dragons probably don't even know how old their race is. A few context clues like "The Legend of Spyro" and "The Forgotten Worlds" make me think that these things are seen by us and not the dragons. As if we are an outside party looking down on the dragon kingdom that knows very little little about themselves. How the elder dragon in YotD knew about the forgotten worlds is beyond me.
Say we take the common theory of LoS being pre-history. (I know it's a reboot, let's just have fun)
Maybe after or during DotD, dragons lived in Avalar, which for the most part looked inhabited by Hunter's race and nature itself.
So Avalar, after being abandoned by dragons for whatever reason, undergoes thousands, maybe millions of history to the day it is inhabited by several intelligent species and is ruled (for a short time) by Ripto.
However, is it fair for us to conclude that humans are the only intelligent species to roam the earth? Or perhaps humans did live on Earth millions of years ago, but evolution and catastrophe all but removed humans from existence leaving behind no evidence and no remembrance that humans had a pre-prehistory. This is deep stuff, I know.
Look at this picture and see if you can figure out what or where this is.
I like to think of every Spyro game taking place on the same planet. And the Spyro 1 dragon kingdom, Avalar, the forgotten realms, and the LoS lands is the setting for all of history for everything that lived there.
Now if you couldn't figure out what land the map refers to, maybe this one will jog your memory...
That's called tectonic plates, my friend.
The more I think about it, the more I see LoS lands and its scattered islands (Dante's Freezer, Ancient Grove, etc.), the more I see it as a Pangea much like the one that created out continents.

Re: Was Avalar Part of the Dragon Worlds? Possibly another Forgotten Realm?
"The Forgotten Worlds" make me think that these things are seen by us and not the dragons.
Yes.. Well there are 2 contexts to the word 'forgotten'. Either...
1. They just all left.
2. Or like you said about the reboot, the land might have been re-arranged etc.
3. Something Happened to the Dragons of that Area. Similar to the K-T event that killed the dinosaurs.
I'm leaning towards option 3... It's crazy to think that dragons were the only thinks inhabiting the whole world. Relating it to something in our world, Dinosaurs were never the only inhabitants of the earth millions of years ago. After the Dinosaurs died, some of the smaller animals went on to evolve into some of the animals we see today... Maybe this happened with Avalar???
It's obvious in even the Dragon Realms of Spyro 1, that other creatures exist... Take Gnasty Gnorc for one. And we know that the Forgotten Realms were inhabited by Dragons so take for a 2nd example: The Sorceress and then Bianca as well. We can assume The Sorceress was around when Dragons inhabited the land as she knew all about how they had become the forgotten Realms etc.
Another thing is that Magic is quite evident in Avalar. In Spyro YoTD, They say that all the Magic in the Forgotten Worlds disappeared... Maybe the inhabitants of Avalar were far enough along that they were able to harness Dragon Magic before it Disappeared, since they were able to create Dragon Power-ups such as Superflame and Flying Abilites when there wasn't even any dragons there.
Like we have seen in all 3 Spyro games, There is always little animals moving around known as fodder. Whether some fodder left over in the Lands of Avalar mutated/evolved into the characters we see inhabiting some realms of Avalar I'm not sure but it seems possible
How the elder dragon in YotD knew about the forgotten worlds is beyond me.
Maybe their was some History books? Like you, I'll take something from the LoS Series. I'll take it from the Spyro Wiki. XD
The Chronicler is an ancient, grayish-light blue dragon who was thousands of years old and contained immeasurable wisdom and knowledge and had the element of Telekinesis. He is also the dragon chosen to watch over the Books of Time. The Books of Time have recorded almost every part of history and every dragon has a book dedicated to their lives.
This implies that their has always been history of everywhere that dragons have lived. Maybe one of these books was discovered and he found out about the Forgotten Worlds? There may be History on them living in Avalar that hasn't yet been found.
Maybe after or during DotD, dragons lived in Avalar, which for the most part looked inhabited by Hunter's race and nature itself.
Well there is a forbidden tunnel that Spyro, Cynder & Hunter take to get to the Dragon City so I'm guessing that before Cynder began attacking.... that Avalar had a definite link with the Dragon City and when Cynder started attacking, All trust was lost in the dragons and hence, the tunnel was blocked off. With the link, It is quite possible that Dragons used to inhabit Avalar in the LoS Storyline.
This reminds me of a movie I watched about a year ago. Battlefield Earth. Aliens had attacked Earth and enslaved the humans. Most of their history was destroyed and the protagonist of the movie eventually found a restricted library that contained all these books that hadn't been destroyed when the aliens attacked. He learn't all about the history etc. So, it is possible. Completely different mindset but it does seem similar to your comment.
The more I think about it, the more I see LoS lands and its scattered islands (Dante's Freezer, Ancient Grove, etc.), the more I see it as a Pangea much like the one that created out continents.
Yes this probably happened also, all the areas moved apart probably but as they got closer, the Avalar Inhabitants were able to get a portal linked to the Dragon Realms. At the start of Spyro 2, Professor seemed surprised.... even shocked when he found a Dragon! Also, the fact that they knew that Dragons even existed proves a link.

Kudos. Absolutely brillant. You deserve 800 gems for that observation.
We are putting forth perhaps 300% of true storyline and Spyro cannon from these ponderings. But it's still fun to pick it apart and put it back together. We should make a documentary from this stuff.

Haha. Lol. Possibly XD. They definitely didn't mean to associate the 2 series.. But it seems they have coincidently linked stuff together for us without even meaning too.
And Hell Yes It is fun to pick it apart. Gives us something interesting to do XD
