Re: Spyroforum`s First Impressions of Skylanders
While a fan of this game, I'll also agree that Skylanders is not really a "Spyro" game in the same way the Legend of Spyro is not really a "Spyro" game. Skylanders is a completely different series with its own unique style of gameplay. However, that doesn't mean it's automatically "bad," just "different."

Re: Spyroforum`s First Impressions of Skylanders
At first I was unsure but when I saw Spyro's design, I felt more negative. Whatever that thing is in Skylanders, it's not Spyro.
What annoys me the most is that the game would work fine on it's own. They're just using Spyro's name to rake people in.

Re: Spyroforum`s First Impressions of Skylanders
I think Skylanders looks like an awesome game and that the fact that Spyro is in it makes it even more awesome!
Would you rather he's not in it?

Re: Spyroforum`s First Impressions of Skylanders
Even if you don't play as him, Spyro is still in the title being used to sell more copies despite having nothing to do with any previous Spyro titles. This is one of the same complaints I had about LoS.

Re: Spyroforum`s First Impressions of Skylanders
The difference is that everyone knows that franchises that get thrown into kart racing games aren't going to have their continuity completely destroyed. In other words, they're not going to only be kart racing games forever. People are angry about Skylanders because they liked Spyro how it was before, and now it's another reboot.
That's probably why there are so many "Super Smash Spyro" comments floating around. People are hoping this will be a one-time thing before they go back to making more TLoS games or whatever. (Which is funny, because TLoS did exactly the same thing as Skylanders is doing now. But that's a discussion for another topic.)

Re: Spyroforum`s First Impressions of Skylanders
Mario Kart is an offshoot game featuring Nintendo characters as cameos, it isn't a reboot of the story that will lead us all to have to think of Mario as a new character with the same name.

Re: Spyroforum`s First Impressions of Skylanders
Well, speaking of Mario, that franchise has it's own "Slap his name on it so it will sell" title. It was called Super Mario Bros. 2. And even though it wasn't as good as the others (depending on who you talk to) they still sold millions of copies and the game was enjoyed a lot.
And anyways, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage could have easily been somebody else's game. Just replace Spyro and Sparx with a different pair of hero personalities and replace words like "dragon" and "torch" and you have a completely different game, or same game.
IMO, the whole argument of them using Spyro's name to sell games is the whole reason why any of the Spyro games (other than the first one) exist. Insomniac could have made another platformer with a different hero, but they decided that Spyro would continue to sell so they went into that direction and slaped his name on G2G and YotD.
I know this sounds ridiculous, but it makes sense when you realize Spyro 2 could almost stand alone. I am almost willing to believe that the "avalar" concept was thought up several years before the game was made, and then Insomniac bought the rights to it to turn into a Spyro game.

Re: Spyroforum`s First Impressions of Skylanders
After giving it some thought, I do believe the fact that Skylanders is not a "Spyro game" is valid. However, it should not be confused with my general interest in getting this game.
I embrace change, and even though Hunter, Elora, Cynder, and other Spyro characters wont be in this game, I still get excited for the new adventures the purple dragon will face, even if he does it with other characters.

Re: Spyroforum`s First Impressions of Skylanders
OK, yeah, I had no idea what I was talking about with Super Mario Bros. 2. Probably just shouldn't have said anything. XD
And I agree we'd never get anything on the level of the original three games and it would probably be something like A Hero's Tail again, but I liked A Hero's Tail, so that would be fine with me. I'm more indifferent to this anyway since I've pretty much given up on Spyro games, but I just wanted to throw some opinions in there.
