Activision

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like me when I say that Skylanders makes me wanna throw up? The character redesign of Spyro is embarrassing, and although I accept that this game serves as another startup to a new series, it pains me to see what Activision is doing to the purple dragon. This is just another reason why I HATE Activision. They don't care about their fans one bit and only choose to market this game at the young generation because they understand that will make them the most money possible. Don't believe me when I say Activision doesn't listen to their fans? Look all the CoD series. MW2 and BO did not have open beta tests, which lead to boatloads of problems and issues at launch, leading to many angry consumers. Activision is basically saying "We don't care what you fans think, play what we give you." Activision also ruined the Guitar Hero franchise as well, and only have released one Crash game in three years since acquiring those rights and Mind over Mutant received mixed to negative reviews as well. I'm sorry if this doesn't have that much to do with Spyro, I just need to vent on how awful Activision really is, and how their neglect towards fans is shown by their only drive to publish videogames: money.

Re: Activision

Well yeah, looks that way. What's wrong with that? You really have problems with people disliking things you like, don't you?

I don't follow any Activision game series (except Spyro kind of), but I've heard nothing good about them in terms of caring about fans. With Skylanders, though, I think they were trying to listen to fan complaints about the LoS series but failed to realize that most people who liked the old Spyro games are now in their late teens and aren't into... whatever Skylanders is.

Re: Activision

It's not that, Stormy, I just thought this topic is off-topic since it doesn't seem to relate to any Future of Spyro..

Re: Activision

OK, one, I can see how it relates because Activision, as the owner of Spyro, will be developing future Spyro games. Two, you're not the moderator, so I'd appreciate it if you'd stop trying to do that job. Just ignore the topic if you don't like it or report it if you think it's breaking any rules. I'm really not trying to be rude; this has just been annoying me lately.

Re: Activision

I don't take rants seriously if they are by people who just joined the site, but I do agree that Activision is money-driven.  Remember, Activision doesn't really make games.  They own games, hire other companies to make the games, and then publish the games.  Before Skylanders, I had never heard about Toys for Bob, but I like what I've seen so far.

Very good point. I know I was 7 when I started playing Spyro 1, 2 and 3 for the original Playstation, and I was around 14-15 when the LoS series came out. I'm glad you brought the idea up about age growth through the years because it makes perfect sense. I feel Spyro games became darker and more plot-related through the years due to the fact that the average age of original players grew. Now, it seems that Activision has thrown this idea out the window. I don't think Activision is really trying to create a new fanbase of young kids. I believe it's just another marketing technique.

Also, I have seen E3 2011 and the gameplay of Skylander's and the graphics really aren't that bad at all. I realize Activision is a publisher first, but it just irks me that this is the game they chose to come out with instead of getting some fan input and continuing with a story somewhat similar to the LoS series combining elements of both classic and legend of spyro games. Activision is bringing something new to the table in Spyro but I don't believe this is the right direction for Spyro.

Again I apologize if this may be in the wrong section, but I felt like it kinda had to do with Spyro's future since Craptivision is running the show now. I don't mean to attack anyone personally who likes Activision, just tryin to spread my beliefs and spark a conversation  wink

Re: Activision

Indeed it is a marketing technique by Activision, but it really is aimed for the new younger audience who don't know Spyro.

And if you look at the new details on Skylanders, the CEO of the game developer of Toys For Bob confirmed that Skylanders was originally going to be a Rated M Spyro game, but Toys for Bob didn't feel like that that kind of game wouldn't be Spyro, so they came up with the light-hearted idea of Skylanders and the toys for the younger audience

I see why this would make sense because as stated above, Activision probably wanted to keep rolling with the increasing age of original fans. Of course I'm going to wait until the game comes out to fully judge it, but at this time this game just doesn't seem like a Spyro game. It just seems like an experiment by Activision to see how well the Spyro name sells, and however this game does will lead to the next step of Spyro's life.

Wouldn't anybody else like to see Activision take the Sonic 4/New Super Mario Bros approach to Spyro? Go back to the classic style of gameplay (not necessarily 2D) and extend the plot from what happened in the LoS series. Sonic 4 received positive reviews from critics and from personal experience, Sonic 4 was a worthy sequel to Sonic 3. NSMB was also an achievement in the SMB series. In my opinion, the only way to make the majority of Spyro fans happy would be to present a new Spyro game containing classic gameplay (home worlds, less combat-based, nrc's) with a plot based off of LoS (romance with Cynder, etc.) I also think this would be the best way to welcome in new fans without completely isolating others.

Re: Activision

I've heard before that they're trying to market this new game to younger kids, but I wonder why they decided to use Spyro for this if not for what's left of the fanbase. I mean, I definitely see the appeal to young kids and don't deny that it's there, but this game would have worked just fine without Spyro in it, so why include him at all? It can't be because Spyro is well-known for having good quality games lately....

Re: Activision

I remember stating on a different thread that I predicted it will be a lot more popular with older kids, despite the fact it is aimed at elementary-aged kids.  Someone thought I was crazy at the time, but My Little Pony came along and proved that I am not crazy.

Exactly. I was watching this video today and this man brought up the same point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Hy8Boee … re=related

Why Spyro? A test to see if the name sells. And if what this man says is true about Activision saying they will make a "proper" Spyro game if Skylanders sells well gets my hopes up a little bit. It's Activision, so who knows what you're going to get. I also agree with this guy when he says that if Skylanders doesn't sell well Activision will probably sell the rights to another publisher or developer. Either way, a Spyro game after Skylanders seems lurking, but if it's what the fans want is a question that may never be answered.

Re: Activision

i read your post, and i say 'lets save spyro, let's gather people and try to get them to write to actavison' sure they ignore some of us but if there's enough
of us to go at them at once, we might be able to make spyro what it used to be. so spread this message 'bring spyro back!!!'
