Where do we go from here?

Do you think they'll continue with Skylanders? Or not continue with Spyro at all?

I personally think the latter - somehow I don't think that they'll do another money-grabbing toy scheme. And they can't reboot Spyro for a third time.

Re: Where do we go from here?

Spyro still has time to be fixed. many bands recovered from bad albums, and certainly the same principles in music could apply to a video game series: if they keep releasing ones that people generally like, then the bad one will become the exception and not the rule, and people will probably forget about it.

if we go back to one of the other series now, Skylanders will just be a little experiment like that Crash/Spyro world-switching thing, and then some consistency can return to Spyro.

Re: Where do we go from here?

I think that spyro could be saved if they add things that were in the old spyro games to the new ones. Like instead of having a storyline to fallow like LoS, they should add freerom and portals like spyros 1,2, and 3. Then for bosses they could bring back some old ones. They could also add the fawn chick back to help him. Then u would need a breath to unlock a new area so u would get ripped of by moneybags for old times sake.

The spyro franchise could be referbished. I think instead of how LoS is a strait story, they should make it more freerom with portals and stuff like it used to be. And when u learned a new breath u would pay moneybags lol.

Re: Where do we go from here?

I think they are going to continue Skylanders for a while but i hope they do Spyro game with home worlds and portals. And i hope they change Spyros outfit from this:

To this:

One thing is bothering me. If Spyro fans wants a Spyro game that's made in style of originals why Activision don't make that kind of game. I think it would be a huge success when Spyro fans notice that it's the game they have been waiting since Spyro 3. Does Activision even know what fans want? But luckily there's a fan game being developed and it's going to be in style of originals. It's going to be ready in 2012.

Re: Where do we go from here?

The fandom is actually really split between wanting LoS and original style. You don't see a lot of LoS fans around here, but they're definitely out there in other communities.

Also I think they were trying for Skylanders to be like the originals, and in terms of gameplay it kind of looks like it is. It's just not really a Spyro game, so it's missing a lot of the elements we think of as "Spyro," like being able to jump and glide and stuff like that.

Re: Where do we go from here?

Remakes are ruled out. If there were to be remakes then Activision and Insomniac would have to join, and the chances of that happening are low, especially because not many people who worked on the originals still work at Insomniac.

Activision have several choices. Remakes or continuing with the original series (very unlikely), continuing with Skylanders (very likely), discontinuation (not too likely) or continuing with LoS style Spyro games (not too likely). Despite how unlikely the remakes are to happen, I still want them. If they don't come, then expect me to go to the effort of making it for them. Seriously.

So if original styled Spyro doesn't show up you're gonna do that?

I think that a group of Spyro players (i.e. The Spyro Forum members) should make a fan game- that is, Spyro 3 HD, or Spyro 2012, or something along those lines, in a similar way to how the members of Sonic Retro are making Sonic 2 HD.

So a re-creation of Spyro 3? I would like to see a whole new game made in style of originals. And a fan game of spyro is being developed. Checkout these links:

Looks good and I am going to try it. I read that there are only a few developers, so it will take some time until it is finished...

I read somewhere it's about 80 % ready.

If it mustn't be a remake of a Spyro game i could be a story writer for it. I have something on my mind. The story continues where Year Of The Dragon ended and is a sequel to Year Of The Dragon.

Re: Where do we go from here?

They way I see it, fan games are all we have for a new Spyro game based off
of the original three Spyro games. I think we all know, somewhere deep
inside us, that companies don't want to make a classic Spyro-based game.

Re: Where do we go from here?

I would love to see a new spyro game done in the way of the originals i like those much more than TLOS series, even though i liked the story line of that trilogy i disliked that you did not have the free roam ability that the originals had. although i would not mind seeing a sequel to the last game in TLOS series just to see what happened after he put the world back together.

I do not like skylanders at all, i see it as a mockery of the spyro series, partly because he doesn't even look close to any of the previous designs. Unfortunately they are making a second skylanders game, which does not bode well for those of us who want them to go back to making original style spyro games ect... unless it just does not sell well. the only good things that i can think of about them making a second skylanders is that:

1. Spyro is not in the title so it is most likely not going to be a true spyro game even though I think that they are making him a playable character.

2. If it fails horribly due to the fanbase not buying it then they might go back to what we want.

BTW i am new to the forums. smile
i just found them today so i decided to join.

Re: Where do we go from here?

Welcome to the forums! big_smile

I think the fact that they are dropping Spyro out of the title of the next Skylanders game means they might go back to making games with some form of a dragon named Spyro as the main character. If anything, these games would probably be a continuation of TLoS or yet another reboot. Maybe they'll do something in the Skylanders universe with Spyro as the main character.

Skylanders has actually been a huge success from what I've heard, so I think they'll probably continue to make those games if they ever resume making Spyro games.

Re: Where do we go from here?

I hope they do a third reboot of the series instead, or a continuation of TLoS series. I would rather not see spyro in skylanders as the main character ever again. I can however see the appeal of skylanders even though i personally don't like it. it appeals to newer generations, and i understand that, but the older loyal consumers should come first.

hopefully if they do continue the skylanders thing, even if they make spyro a playable character in it, they will make actual spyro games that focus on him alone in either the TLoS universe or the older one or just something to that effect.

Anyway thanks for the warm welcome to the forums Stormy big_smile

Re: Where do we go from here?

I'd rather they made a hybrid game with elements from both series (classic and tlos) or separating the two series and working on both.

I wouldn't want an LOS only era - I believe that era has long gone. It was an experiment and had tons of potential - but it was never unleashed in time. But I feel that I could make a better los game with one hand tied behind my back in terms of gameplay but the developers don't have much time and are rushed into making the games.

If it was based on any of the cool ideas that vgman94 and another guy whose name escapes me have, I'll be all for it (proper npc interaction, town levels, looting dungeons and caves and collecting gems a la classic Spyro to pay LOS moneybags for upgrades a la Ratchet). These are what all three of us could agree on and even with those, it'll be a start. Los highly disappointed me so unless they get it right, I won't bother picking up any fourth Los game.

Simple as that. smile
