Spyro 3 Beta stuff and Spyro hacks

I'm surprised nobody had made a hack of Spyro 3 that allows access to all the Beta areas. Here's the first video I've found to point in that direction.

And here's a quote from Craig Stitt, on of the creators of Spyro 3:

"It is actually very cool to me that someone finally made it out to that
little island. Of course is also makes me kind of sad. Here's the
story of why that island is there and why there is stuff on it.

A long time ago the portal to the Super Bonus Round was on that island.
The only way to get to that island was beat the Sorceress in the final
battle. Once you had done that a VERY VERY tall whirl wind would appear
in the room just outside the entrance to the final boss round. This
whirlwind would take you up high enough that you could glide ALL the way
out to that island. If I remember right it was like a 20 or 30 second
glide. It was very cool. I was actually the artist who modeled the level.

Unfortunately, the way vacations that year worked out, I needed to take
mine right before we shipped the game. When I came back I discovered
that the Super Bonus Portal had been moved MUCH closer and that the
super-whirl-wind had been removed (for unknown reasons). Unfortunately,
the artist who made all the changes (as per the programmer's and
designer's request) failed to remove the old island way off in the
distance. Same with the programmer who overlook removing the goodies
that had been placed there.

By the time I was back from vacation the game was done and out the door.

So that's the story of the distant island with the goodies on it. Over
the years I have had lots of people ask what that island is, or how you
get out to it, but you are the first to write that has actually found a
way out there!"

So that's where the Midnight Mountain pillar thing comes from...

So... I made this thread to discuss Beta stuff in Spyro games and the possibility of a fan-remake / hack / beta remake of Spyro 3. So, yeah. Discuss.

Wow, good job with all this. I knew about most of these, but the story about the super-whirlwind was pretty cool. Funny how it wasn't put in because the guy was on vacation. Never knew Zoe told you about playing a hacked version either; that's pretty awesome.

This isn't really a beta thing, but it's pretty cool regardless. If you do the swimming-in-air glitch in Evening Lake (by pausing the game right before you die in the lava in Fireworks Factory, you can swim around and see the areas inside the whale, and the area where Hunter was trapped for the first part of the level.

Yeah, I've seen that video. I love secret areas and stuff in games, even if they are accessible normally anyway.

While ripping music from Spyro 3 ( I like the music wink ) I found 2 soundtracks, that I have never heard in the game (but I don't know how to descibe them, maybe upload). Does anybody know anything about them? Maybe the developers were about to use them, but didn't do it...

I've heard there is unused music, but I didn't know any were in Spyro 3. Do you think you could upload them? (Or lecture us on how to rip music tongue )

Oh, have you made sure that the music wasn't from a level which has different music in America than other places? e.g. Evening Lake, Dino Mines etc.

apparently in a beta version of Spyro 3, Sunny Villa was supposed to have a fountain in it. yearofthe has a picture here as he pulls an unrelated April Fool's joke. he said he was going to make a walkthrough of that. that should be interesting.

I've got the Europe version. I didn't know that America has differend music. I did quick search on youtube and the music is really for the america version... but why didn't they use it in the Europe version? On those levels there are used soundtracks from other levels. (note: I didnt find the dino mines music in the file)
btw you can rip music from psx games using PSMplay or psound

I looked in Cloud Spires for that extra gem. It wasn't there, so perhaps it's only in certain versions of the game.

Here's an interesting thing: It is possible to stand on the cloud in Cloud Spires despite the fact that there is no way of the player getting there. In some versions of the game, there's even supposed to be a gem up there which adds to your total gem count, as shown in one of the videos I put in the OP. I couldn't find the gem, though, which is why I've been given reason to believe that the gem is only in certain versions of the game.
