If I owned Spyro in this situation, I'd take it back to formula. What made it sell so well in the first place? Angst? No. Linearity? No again. Endless supplies of enemies and limited fire? Half-right. The expansive worlds, the side-quests (even if some were hair-yankingly frustrating), and the overall cheerful feel of it made it fun, and fun is what sold back then.

I'd probably take most of the story out of LoS (then trash the rest minus some necessary characters), since that's about all it had going for it (also wind the drama in it back from an 8 to about a 3 or 4 at most), and set it in the more free-roaming and fun gameplay of the originals. First graphics change would be to take out the grit and replace it with something a little brighter and more friendly. Then, set the scene in a newly rebuilt world without an incarnation of evil running around making everything depressing. That would be enough of an entry-point for a less "serious" final enemy. Then I'd just have to find a way to hit Hunter in the head until he lost his LoS personality. O:)

Second, I'd demand an original trilogy with "fresh paint" (updated colors without losing the charm, as well as perhaps one or 2 new egg/orb quests or something) be put in that game to try and smooth over the 3 games that came before it (4 if you wanna count skylanders), since I know no fan of the old games would ever forget what happened, and I also know some would be wary to buy anything Spyro without good cause. This would happen unless the rights were too expensive to get for the release.

If I'd owned it before the LoS trilogy came out, I'd kick the 2 guys who made it linear and angsty in the head, because that's not Spyro. You can have serious without making it a soap opera. You can make it more expansive without making it massive (isn't that why the original 3 broke them up into "levels" in the first place?) Also, I would never have shoehorned a love interest into the story. If you want one, fine. Just don't make their story feel so completely artificial and the "love" so forced.

I mean 2 games and there was not ONE hint that they were in love, just...friends, then suddenly out of nowere in the last game "I love you!" it was just an awfull mess. if you are going to give somonme a love intrest atleast try to have a connection insted of just plop it in last second to make the fantards happy.

That's exactly why I was so sure SpyroxCynder wasn't going to happen. There was nothing whatsoever that indicated it... except for that one time they looked at the moon together; that cliche is a pretty sure sign of an upcoming relationship.

Bane dragon has the best and most well-thought-out answer in this thread IMO.

Yup, i mean i do like the first 2 tlos but he pritty much shows that...well next to old spyro they cannot hold a candel

If I was the owner of Spyro, well first i need to make Spyro famous before making a new reboot of Spyro. So, the first thing I thought is that to make the first 3 games from the original series be available in the App Store in Apple. Recently, there are millions of people with Apple devices. Just as Crash has some games in the App Store. Also i will try to make Spyro to be in Super Smash Bros(mainly), or in the Playstation all star battle royale, so it can grain more fans. Sry for my english, and i will be glad to see your opinions. smile

Activision should stop ruining Spyro like Vivendi Universal Games and Sierra Entertainment have before. The series has to get back to its roots, to what made it popular in the first place, otherwise I can't see a bright future. Because everytime a 'Spyro' game comes out these days, I wonder why people still like this series, because everything that made the series has been changed, literally. I guess it's because the series still has the bonus of being a well known series from the 90s, which the publishers have shamelessly abused ever since Spyro 4. But that won't work in the long run, because people will realize the games are crappy and parents who probably played Spyro as kids will stop to get their kids Spyro games.

I think a HD remake is pretty profitable, not least because HD-Remakes are a common thing these days, and they actually sell well. They should give the rights to a sane publisher and let a development team consisting of a group of fans make it. Because WE the fans know what we want. With enough financial ressources, I could become the Spyro we were waiting for since the end of the initial trilogy, a truely worthy successor to the original trilogy. Maybe we could even get Copeland back to do the music... They could use people who already work on existing fangames. I'm sure there a a lot of talented fans out there - in which area it may be - are together capable of making an excellent remake. There musn't be anything changed with the classic Spyro formula, just some improved graphics of course, add some modern touches to the gameplay, some new and refreshing abilities while keeping the core gameplay classic, and alot people will buy it, cause it'll be GOOD.

I agree with most of what you said, except the part about the fans knowing what they want. We may as individuals, but the fandom as a whole is actually pretty divided and has been since A New Beginning. Some want just original-style games; some want a mix between TLoS and the originals; some want just TLoS-style; and some like Skylanders. I wouldn't be surprised if at least part of the reason Activision seems to have given up on its established fanbase is due to the fact that anything they do will make people angry.

Sadly, platformers seem to be dying out these days, too, so even though I think a Spyro game in the style of the originals would be wonderful, I have some doubts about how well it would sell to the general public without either a dark and/or complex story, guns, or both. Maybe nostalgia alone would make it sell, but a lot of people who grew up with the originals have probably also grown out of games like Spyro. I could maybe still see an HD remake working.

if i owned Spyro, i would remake the first 2 TLOS games with level select, and add *true* free flight to all three of them. it'd glitch up the first 2 especially, with different areas of each level being separated by empty space*, but that's part of the fun, right?

i would continue to make new original Spyro games, in the same exact style as they were made on the PS1. i'd make sure to throw in extra goodies for glitchers.**

i would make Spyro merchandise that is not only cool, but is available in MORE than 5 copies that are all in Japan.

i'd try to get the rest of the soundtracks legally released. come on, this is good music, people.

i'd have Spyro 4 (ETD) redone, and finished like the developers wanted it to be.

I'd try to bring spyro back to its roots, but make the best of modern console tech and I'd try to flesh out the world a bit more to, or at least the basic hub worlds since I know the portal worlds are a bit more random. I'd add in maybe a few more consistent power-ups, similar to how you occasionally found the superflame charge and got the ice breath for one level.

There's not too much I could say that others haven't already. I would try and make it more like the originals, but add some flare to keep it modern. Storytelling has become a much bigger part of games now, so I like the idea of a more detailed dragon culture and environment. One thing I would really focus on is the exploration aspect the old series had. With the consoles of today the worlds could be a lot more grand and magical. Spyro would have a purpose for his gliding ability and would have neat collectibles. One thing from the LoS trilogy I would keep though is the health bar. Three hits is rarely enough for modern gaming.

Well, I like me some challenge, It makes you play more carefully and it also makes it a lot more satisfying to finally manage a challenging glide and tocollect extra lifes. smile

Challenge is also something, that I wish for in a new 'classic' style Spyro game. There are rarely any challenging Platformers out there these day.

I wouldn't say platformers have been dying out. Mario is still going strong, and im fairly certain a new crash bandicoot game would do well. I think spyro could too. I don't know though tongue If i owned spyro, what would i do? Considering there's the people who want the original games back, and the legend of spyro back, I'd try to do sort of a mixture of both. I'd include all the characters from the original games, and some from the legend of spyro. I'd change cynder though (sorry, i gotta. Then again, a lot of cynder fans may or may not get mad at that?) I wouldn't make her a love interest, perhaps just an important figure in the game, like zelda is in legend of zelda (twilight princess, ocarina of time. Those games) Quiet, dedicated to whatever she may do, protecting, ruling, whatever. Polite, not very outspoken. Spyro I would make like he was in the original games, I mean that was the best version of him. (Though maybe the legend of spyro fans disagree? The original being the best version is MY opinion so) Speaking of that, I'd have to listen to some of the things the fans say. All the fans. I'd add the guardians from the legend of spyro in there, I'm sure they could fit. Their personalities actually work. I'd add the dragons from the original spyro the dragon too, the ones ya rescued, remember them?. I'd make it so you could play as spyro, maybe sheila, bentley, sgt byrd, agent 9, those guys too yeah. The graphics of course, with the recent technology, I would make as incredible as i possibly could. Making it a bit cartoony like with the characters, spyro and what not, with beautifully realistic looking elements like the backgrounds, the trees the grass. The story? I'm really not sure, I'm not sure about a past villain returning. A new villain might be in order just to make things saucy. Maybe I'd make ripto return, but not as a villain persay. More like an anti hero who still despises spyro but is after a new goal that wouldn't really affect others too badly, but probably *bleep* people off. I wouldn't make him be in it too much, if in it at all, maybe just for a cameo. Anyways, the new villain, at first you wouldn't know what he was really after, but in the end is actually after one thing. (cough spyro. I havent come up for a reason why but it would be dramatic once spyro found out that mister nasty wasty was after him the whole time for some reason or whatever that may be. MAYBE THE VILLAIN COULD BE HIS FATHER- nah thats too cliche forget that nevermind) Wow this is getting fanficy. Er..yeah you probably dont want me making a spyro game
