Music being used outside the games?
So Stormy and I were watching Buffy and we came accross something interesting...
Now go here and skip to 34:35 and listen to the music. I looked into this via Google and found one other person asking about this but no answers. Would anybody else know how this happened or know of another case of original trilogy Spyro music being used in other media?
P.S. an interesting thing to note is this Buffy episode aired two years before Spyro 2.

Re: Music being used outside the games?
Well, one really well-known one is the theme from Wizard Peak being used in the credits of The Amanda Show.
I've never seen the Gulp theme pointed out before, though, even though it's apparently used in a lot of different shows. I knew something sounded familiar about that music, but I didn't put it together until you mentioned it. Weird....

Here's a "video" of a sound sample library containing various musical sound effects, many of which Copeland used for Spyro 2. (thanks to http://www.youtube.com/user/HenriKorpela)

Re: Music being used outside the games?
the song from Jacques made it to one of Stewart Copeland's personal CDs under a different name, "Rain".
not sure if that counts though.
it's really interesting how similar that Disney music sounds to the song from TEN. i wonder if they actually had permission to do that. o.o

Re: Music being used outside the games?
That one's likely just a coincidence in the picking of samples to use in the song.
also, why are so many of the videos here private/gone now?
I'm not sorry if I offended you.

Re: Music being used outside the games?
Man this thread is awesome. Honestly one music sample I just thought of is the 'Dun dun dun DUN' sound used in Ripto's EtD boss fight being a sound effect I've heard in many TV shows and Movies. Other than that, the theme to the Discovery show How it's made uses similar sounds to Aquaria Towers...

i dunno, sounded like pretty obvious plagiarism to me.
unless they're both actually sampled from something? i don't use samples so i wouldn't know what's available.

They likely both used the same sample from a popular samples collection. You can sometimes hear the same drum samples in a lot of newer (crappy) rap songs. My sister constantly listens to that kind of music, and I start noticing things like that.

Re: Music being used outside the games?
here, we have an example of the music being used *before* its respective Spyro game.
this is from Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly
http://youtu.be/091WZHPsHSw?t=16s
this is from a soundtrack/remix compilation for a game called LSD: Dream Emulator. the same "tropical" melody is there

Re: Music being used outside the games?
Oh my god, that Distorted Reality video blew my mind. I never knew he used that many samples in his music. The Hurricos wind sounds(0:16), obviously the Aquaria towers sounds(0:19), the Kick drum sound in Fracture Hills(0:45), the 'meow' sound in Zephyr(0:49), The wind-like sounds in Fracture Hills(0:57 in the video), the yelling sounds in Mystic Marsh(1:02), All the Skelos Badlands sounds(1:21), the Drum loop in Magma Cone(1:51), a wind-like sound from an unused track from Spyro 2 or 3(1:59). So many and probably more! And that LSD: Dream Emulator music also blew my mind. I recently was thinking "Dragon Realms' music had to have used some sort of sample", but I didn't know what.
For other music, Stewart did some movie soundtracks like for the movie "Simpatico" and "Rumble Fish". Simpatico has some samples from Distorted Reality 2 like the Aquaria Towers sounds in a track titled "Rush to LA" and the Hurricos sounds in a track titled "Breeding". For Rumble Fish, it's less of the Spyro instruments because it was made in the 80's before Spyro, but he does use a few instruments he used for Spyro like one of his drum sounds here:
http://youtu.be/Vu-cv9wnRKw?t=7m15s
And in a movie titled "The Pallbearer", a track called "Bill is dead" is literally Lofty Castle redone and slowed down. It's awesome! What's amazing about this is that the movie was released in 1996, 2 years before Spyro 1 came out. So technically, Lofty Castle's music came after this!
I love Stewart's music and he uses a lot of the same samples in all his work. There's quite a few more uses of some samples in even his newer work.

Re: Music being used outside the games?
I guess I could post this here... Parts of the video is Stewart Copeland and some other musicians playing a version of Blowhard.
Also, in this video that Mr Copeland posted two/three weeks ago, from about 0:38 there's something that might be a part of the Ripto's Arena soundtrack from Spyro 2, also starting roughly at the same time.

Re: Music being used outside the games?
Listen to the intro of Spyro the Dragon theme song below....
...and then listen to the acoustic guitar intro of this song.
as you can see, the intro of Piece Of Mind by Boston sound alot like the intro of Spyro The Dragon. However, Peace Of Mind is released in 1976, so it's alot older than the Spyro the Dragon theme song.

This song:

In the first minute, the background sounds like Autumn Plains.

Re: Music being used outside the games?
I just found this forum and am so amazed at all the feedback! I wanted to share more spyro music I found in other stuff. Japanese artist ayumi hamasaki's team used a lot of the spyro sounds/Distorted reality sample sounds in her earlier music! an example is the Luminize / Winter Tundra theme in her interlude song called Kaleidoscope:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3054e … dosc_music
It's a dailymotion video, sorry. SKIP TO 1:35!
In a lot of her remixes from the late 90's/early 2000's, HAL (which is a music producer team) used a lot of sound effects from that Distorted reality CD in her music. The sound at 0:25 on the Distorted Reality youtube video, which is also a sound from the Hurricos theme as well as the end of the Aquarius Towers, is in a lot of her HAL remixes. Even the track called "Sun Spot" from that sample CD was used in one of her songs. I just loved hearing them all and thinking OMG SPYRO lol

Oh, Ayumi Hamasaki! I like a lot of her music. That does sound a lot like the Spyro 2 homeworld theme music there, cool.
Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Re: Music being used outside the games?
I know of a few..
In Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, some of the "Longest Shortcut" levels use samples that were used in Spyro 2's Aquaria Towers and Hurricos.
And in Crash Mind Over Mutant, there's an unused song which uses samples from the title screen theme of Spyro Enter the Dragonfly.
Those are just the ones on the top of my head at the moment...
