Re: Banned topics - please read [NEW THREAD]

I leave my status as "Undecided." I would like to say "Yes" but with great
caution. I would do what SpyroRocks said, and ease into it so that we can
see how things will work out little at a time.

I am undecided because there seems to be a nearly equal amount of
advantages and disadvantages regarding the topics at hand.

Re: Banned topics - please read [NEW THREAD]

Wow, I completely forgot about this thread. Thank you SO much, Aceedwin and SR.

It now solves the issue that I briefly discussed several days ago in the guns thread. For now.

The only way we can find out if this works is if an applicable topic is discussed within the month.

Re: Banned topics - please read [NEW THREAD]

Hopefully everyone can be responsible and mature when discussing the issue. Would hate to have to ban it completely once more because users simply can't handle it. Either way be responsible everyone.

Re: Banned topics - please read [NEW THREAD]

To  be honest, I didn't see much politics related topics this month.
I saw maybe two, but those didn't last long at all.

My input is that someone should create a topic, about politics, with the
purpose of testing how well it goes. I don't know what the topic can be
about, it could be about Obama or some other leader. Maybe the "New
World Order?" [Or does that fall under religion?]

Well apparently the British undergoing a huge political reform isn't big news around here. I should have seen this coming. People just aren't that interested in politics around here. We'd get some mileage out of religion, but after a while it would just be recycled garbage again and again. And sexuality would just be "I'm such and such, now nobody can make much of a comment on what I just said."

It's a shame, but it hasn't seemed to work.

Also, that last question, depends on your perspective on what this "World Order" is.

Re: Banned topics - please read [NEW THREAD]

Would it be weird if I put my two cents into a thread that hasn't been commented on in two years? I mean someone will read this so... okay I'll go for it.
I'm all for being able to discuss 'mature' topics. Give it its own section and closely monitor it, but it can still be extremely beneficial. Debate is very healthy and can be enlightening. I've read plenty of interesting debates that have definitely opened my mind about things. If people want to discuss religion, politics, philosophy, etc. I think they should be allowed to. As long as they do it in a mature, respectful way.
Of course the ban may have been lifted without me knowing; I haven't been here in years. But yeah, I would love to get into some philosophical debates, so I voted 'yes' for allowing banned topics.
That's pretty much all I have to say here. smile

Re: Banned topics - please read [NEW THREAD]

The rule has never "officially" been lifted, but as I'm basically the only mod around, no one enforces it anymore. I'm 99% sure Spyrorocks doesn't care anymore, either.

Re: Banned topics - please read [NEW THREAD]

we had a thread about religion and spirituality a while back. i could resurrect it, but spirituality doesn't seem like a topic of very high interest here, so there's not that much to discuss. and we touch on politics sometimes.

Hmm, I see. Okay then. Thanks for replying.
And I suppose if a discussion like that gets started I'll partake, but I don't really have any ideas for how to start one.

^ Pretty much why these topics were banned in the first place. Lol. I think we're a little more mature than this now, though.

I'm really surprised how well that topic worked... Religion? On the internet? With no arguing? We must be pretty mature.

Yeah, I think we've come to a general understanding and respect for our
different belief systems. I think we ended up just coming up with stuff
because we wanted to do it for enjoyment rather than actual debating.

I wouldn't mind it being bumped again, I can throw in some good Christian
perspectives to the table if I actually know what t say. X|

We haven't had a politics one yet. I might bump the religion related thread,
but if we're up to doing a politics thread then maybe someone can start it.

Re: Banned topics - please read [NEW THREAD]

Debating religion is extremely pointless. There's nothing that can be said that we haven't all heard a million times before, especially on the internet. People rarely change their views as a result. Discussing different beliefs without trying to change anyone's mind, though, is interesting. Politics is pretty much the same way.

So yeah, fully support bumping and/or creating new threads about these topics.

Re: Banned topics - please read [NEW THREAD]

I guess there could always something. I've been around the internet so long that pretty much nothing surprises me anymore. I think I've heard just about every argument anti-theists could possibly argue, at least, but who knows.
