Parts of Spyro games that used to scare you
When I was little, there were a quite a few things in Spyro games that were nightmare fuel for some weird reason. Like one tunnel in Sgt. Byrd's Base and the level Idol Springs. So, I made this topic for sharing the weird things you used to be scared of in Spyro games when you were little for some reason.

Re: Parts of Spyro games that used to scare you
I'll start with Sgt. Byrd's Base.
There was one tunnel, past the portal where you exit the level, that seriously scared me. It had one of the hummingbirds you had to rescue in it.
(Sorry for the horrible image quality. I took the image off of my TV with my camera.)
I thought that a giant monster would come and eat me or something. I never got the egg for rescuing the hummingbirds until I was about 9. Then, I decided that I was old enough and brave enough to face one of my early childhood fears in a video game. And I rescued the final hummingbird.

Re: Parts of Spyro games that used to scare you
I can definitely see how that part would be scary. Makes a lot more sense than some of mine, lol.
I was scared of Hurricos and Sunny Beach in Spyro 2. Hurricos because of the dark environment, probably, and Sunny Beach because of those ducks that you have to flame twice to kill. I remember when I rented the game and I tried to get my dad to do those levels because I didn't want to. This was before we had a memory card, so when it was time to return it my dad told me to just lose all my lives because we couldn't save anyway.
This doesn't quite count, but in Spyro 1 I was afraid to fight Gnasty Gnorc because I thought the game would end and I wouldn't be able to save the rest of the dragons, haha.

There were a few things that scared me but THESE HORRENDOUS CREATURES are, I believe, the only ones that have the honor of having actually given me nightmares
I like the original Spyro trilogy.
I am currently ranking the 74 main levels from it.. which you probably already know if you're reading this, since my ranking thread is basically the only place I'm posting.

it's strange. When I was little, I thought Aquaria Towers was the best level ever. I thought the sharks looked cool. It seems to be the total opposite for you.
In Ripto's Rage, I used to be scared of Idol Springs. I mean... I thought those giant idol heads were so big and creepy...

Re: Parts of Spyro games that used to scare you
Sorry for not knowing the name of the level, but it was the one in Spyro 3 and
was at night time. One of your objectives was to light those big lanterns. If
you jumped in the water, pirhana would try to kill you. And those dang giant
mosquito things, I had such a hard time killing them before they stabbed me.

Ahh, I think that was Spooky Swamp. I was a little bit scared of the piranhas in that one, too.
That challenge where you play as Sheila and keep the firefly guys from running into things was way too hard.

Re: Parts of Spyro games that used to scare you
i was afraid of Crush and Gulp when i was young. especially Gulp, because i figured you just had to flame him like you did with Crush, and i couldn't figure out what to do with him at first.
by the time i got YOTD, i was kind of over that, though, which is good considering the bosses in YOTD are just terrifying. the music for Buzz is creepy, Scorch is nightmare fuel, and i still have some difficulty with Spike today.
i was afraid of the big versions of the creatures in Dark Passage to a point.
the knights in Haunted Towers creeped me out a bit.
Peace Keepers itself didn't "scare" me, but it sure creeped me out at first. the first homeworld was so peaceful and happy, and then you get into this militaristic stuff.
Gnasty Gnorc scared me a bit. ^^;
Dr. Shemp might have scared me a bit. can't remember well.
some of the enemies in Jacques used to creep me out a bit.
edit: oh yeah, the metal sharks in Aquaria Towers used to scare me.
nothing really in Spyro 3. i think i was too old to really be scared by most video games by the time i got that.

I know this isn't a Spyro game, but I used to be afraid of any level of any Mario game that have this exact same music or any variant of this music:

Re: Parts of Spyro games that used to scare you
Probably the Hurricos level and the frogs in the Misty Bog level in Spyro 1, those frogs just sat there all innocent and then wham! they eat you, their mouths being open like that made me jump! as far as other video games some of the enemies in Mario used to frighten me, and the eel in Super Mario 64 gave me nightmares as a kid.

Re: Parts of Spyro games that used to scare you
The alarm sound in Hurricos when the purple monsters steal the electric orb things... that always freaked me out
And the Demolition Hovercraft Competition in Haunted Tombs, because my strategy was being really careful, moving slowly and aiming precisely next to the vase things so that the enemies behind them were hit. Then having the enemies suddenly come at me, shooting, was scary.

oh yeah, both of those things. but they didn't scare me as much as they just *really* caught me off-guard.

Re: Parts of Spyro games that used to scare you
The only thing that has ever scared the living daylights out of me in spyro were those bloody robotic sharks in spyro 2 OH MY GOD i was terrified of those things because, you swim closer and closer, and then out of nowhere they just SNAP SNAP just yich. Also the frogs in the original spyro game, with evil tongues that randomly flick out at you and somehow hurt you (because tongues are evil ono)

The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning
In "Dante's Freezer":
Those living dead guys who are all evil and stuff, and once you kill them, they
turn into a floating skeleton guy who kills you really fast.

Oh yes, the Metalback Spiders. They used to scare me when I was little and I was always afraid to go through the caverns because of them lurking in there.

When I was eleven, I watched an entire walkthrough of The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning. The only part I REALLY found creepy was the final attack against Cynder (classic Spyro heads as a spirit attack? REALLY?!!?).
